Universal timepiece. The present invention relates to a universal timepiece comprising., on the one hand., a first dial in front of which moves at least one hour hand controlled by a clock movement by means of a device coupling, and a second dial divided into time zones and.
<. raising which can be moved an index and, on the other hand, a movable member that can be actuated manually and allowing said hour hand to be momentarily disengaged from the movement and silencing it to travel a variable distance depending on the position of the index in front of the second dial, so that it indicates at any time desired the time it is in the time zone designated by the index, the latter being integral with a spiral cam against the edge of which abuts the movable member when activated.
This timepiece is characterized in that the aforementioned movable member is constituted by a lever with two arms, one arm of which cooperates with said cam under the action of a spring and of which the other arm carries, articulated on it. , a toothed sector intended to mesh with.
a pinion integral with the hour hand of the clockwork movement and driving this pinion in rotation under the action of a spring, manual control means being provided to cause the toothed sector to mesh with said pinion, for example a rotation of this sector around its articulation key, located so that the part of the sector coming into contact with the pinion moves radially relative to it.
to the latter, said means then producing the triggering of the action of said spring causing the lever to rotate by driving the pinion via the toothed sector, said means and all the displaced members returning to their initial position when 'we stop acting on them.
The appended drawing represents, by way of example, an embodiment of the object of the invention.
Fig. 1 is a plan view of the timepiece, some parts being cut away, and FIG. 2 is a plan view of a detail. The frame of the timepiece shown comprises two parallel plates 1 and 2, between which are arranged the universal time mechanism and the clock movement. The upper plate 1 has an opening, or window 3; the dial plate, designated 4, has been partially torn off to make certain parts of the mechanism visible. The clockwork movement is signed by 5, the hours dial by 6. A mark 7 can be moved manually before graduations 8 corresponding to the various time zones.
This mark controls a spiral cam 9. A lever with two arms 101, and 10 "is articulated at 17. on the frame. The arm 10a carries a pin 12 intended to cooperate with the cam 9. A spring. 13 acts on the lever with two arms and tends to hold the lever. arm 101, applied against this cam. The arm 10 "carries, articulated at 14 on it, a toothed sector 15.
A spring 16 carried by the arm 10 "acts on the sector 15 to apply its teeth against a pinion 17 secured to the hour hand of the timepiece and to a cam 18 having a nose 18a (fig. 2). ), with which cooperates a pawl 19 carried by the hour wheel, designated by 20, of the movement 5. The wheel 20 drives the pinion 17 via the pawl 19. The teeth of the pinion 17 and the toothed sector 15 are small and tight, so that these organs can engage in any relative position, without the need for a significant angular displacement of one of them.
The frame also carries two rockers articulated on it. The first, designated by 21., is angled. It is articulated at 22 and carries, at its elbow, an ankle 23 which allows it to be moved manually against a return spring 24. This lever also carries an ankle 25 cooperating with a heel 15a of the toothed sector. 15 to move it away from the pinion 17, against the spring 16. This heel has elongated opening 29 crossed by the axis ide the articulation 11. The second rocker designated by 26 is articulated in. 27 on the frame. This rocker can be moved against a return spring 28 by means of the pin 23.
The rocker 26 cooperates with an extension 10e of the arm 10b.
The operation of this timepiece is as follows. The index 7 is brought in front of the graduation of the scale 8 which corresponds to the time zone of the place whose time we want to know at the present moment. The pin 23 is then moved in the direction of the arrow 30, which has the effect of causing the sector 15 to engage with the pinion 17, without appreciable displacement of this pinion, thanks to the fact that the teeth coming into contact are small and tight and the fact that the point of the sector 15 which comes into contact with the pinion is driven by a radial movement relative to this pinion. The rocker 26 is also moved. However, it does not immediately release the two-armed lever.
It is only when the end of the lever 26 has moved next to that of the extension 10, that the two-armed lever moves according to the arrow 31, under the action of the spring 13. This movement ceases when the pin 12 abuts against the cam 9. It is therefore the position of the cam 9 which determines the amplitude of this displacement during which the pinion 17 is driven by the toothed sector 15 by an amount such that l The hour hand then indicates the time of the desired location. The spring 24 being more powerful than the spring 13, when the pin 23 is released, the lever 21 returns to its initial position by driving the lever with two arms.
As, moreover, the spring 16 is also more powerful than the spring 13, the toothed sector 1: 5 is always engaged with the pinion 1.7 during this return movement, and it drives this pinion in the opposite direction to the previous one. As soon as the nose 1.8 @ of the. cam 18 abuts against the pawl. 19, the pinion 17 is. stopped and the toothed sector 1.5 separates from the pinion 17. The two-arm lever soon reaches the end of its travel, and the lever 26 returns to its initial position under the action of the spring 28 which makes it stop against a fixed pin 29.
