Counter scale.
1 'invention relates to a counter scale comprising a rotating drum which bears on its outer surface weight indications, the readings taking place by means of a fixed mark, for example an edge, a wire or a line parallel to a generator of the surface of the drum.
The invention aims to eliminate the risk of parüllase errors for reading the indications of the scale which is the subject thereof.
This balance is characterized in that the fixed reading mark is located above the drum in a vertical plane passing through the axis of the drum, the indications of the latter being arranged so as to appear opposite the fixed mark in a direction contained in said plan.
The drawing shows, by way of example, an embodiment of the drum scale according to the invention:
Fig. 1 is a vertical section of the balance.
Fig. 2 is a plan view of the balance, the weighing pan and a housing of the balance mechanism being shown in blue lines, and
fig. 3 is a section taken along the broken line III-III of FIG. 2.
The scale shown comprises a base 1, at the half end of which there are columns 2 on which is mounted a drum 3 of conical shape bearing the weight indications. A wire 4, constituting a mark, is stretched above the drum, in the vertical plane passing through its base between the columns 2 and is parallel to the neighboring surface of the drum at the point where it is cut by this plane. It can be seen from FIG. 2 that the figures are arranged on the drum 3 so as to appear opposite the mark 4 in a direction contained in said vertical plane passing through the axis of the drum.
The axis of the drum is horizontal and an auxiliary indicating device, of which a conical dial 6 is integral with the shaft 5 of the drum 3, shows to the view of an observer located on the side of the drum where the indications appear, at the 'reverse side, auxiliary indications in the normal direction. It will be noted that the axis of the drum is located as low as possible, that is to say so as to leave only a small clearance between the lower part of the drum and the base 1. It is located on the side of the goods support which comprises the weighing plate of the balance 7 and its support 8 (fig. 1).
As regards the mechanism which operates between the plate 7 and the drum 3, it can be seen that the support 8 rests on either side on the ends of an oscillating beam 9 in the form of an I which, at these ends, is in contact by a knife with the support and in contact in the same way, but in the opposite direction, with supports 10 integral with the base 1 (fig. 9 and 3). The oscillating beam 9 (only the ends of which are shown in fig. 1) and the articulated connecting rod 11 at a higher level guiding the support parallel to itself during its downward movements which are effected by flashing the control of '' a shock absorber 12.
The oscillating flail 9 carries at a point located between its ends (fig. 2) a bar 13 which is perpendicular to it in the horizontal plane and which, at its end remote from the flail, carries another flail 14. The flail 9, during its oscillating movement under the effect of the weight of the goods placed on the plate 7, causes the beam 14 to descend through the bar 13 against the action of a coil spring 15. For this purpose , the beam 14 is in contact by a knife with an arm 16 directed downwards from the lower end of the spring (fig. 3). The spring tension can be adjusted by acting on a screw of the lever 26 carried by a column 17 (Fig. 1 and 2).
The flail 14 comprises at its end adjacent to the drum 3 a universal joint 18 with a rack 19 suitably guided and meshing with a pinion 20 wedged on the shaft 5 of the drum.
To use the scale, it is placed on the counter, the axis of the indicator drum 3 being substantially perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the counter, and the small diameter end of the drum 3 located on the seller's side, so that the customer is on the other side of the scale.
Both can easily observe the weight of the goods placed on the platform 7, since the digits of the drum 3 or of the dial 6 respectively appear in a vertical position for each of them, the seller observing the drum 3 by means of the mark 4 and the customer observing the dial 6 by means of a fixed mark 21 located in the same vertical plane as the wire 4 and above the dial, the auxiliary indications being arranged on the dial so that they appear opposite the auxiliary mark aforesaid in a direction contained in said vertical plane. This index 21 is mounted at the top of the adjacent column 2 and extends parallel to the conical surface of the dial 6.
It is easy to see that for the seller and for the customer the drum and the dial are in a relatively low position and that they can easily direct their gaze in line with the marks 4 and 21.
Thus, since the readings are taken in a normal position, differences in the size of the customer and the seller or in their distance from the scale have no influence on the accuracy of the reading and the parallax effects can be substantially eliminated. The mechanism operating the drum, the indicator mark 4 and the drum 3 are arranged in such a way that the goods tray 7 can also be arranged in a relatively low position, so that it is thus clearly visible to the seller and the customer. while the weighing operation and the reading of the weight or other indications are carried out.
The elements of the scale, other than the goods tray, are arranged under a cover or in a housing 50 shown in phantom with. windows (not shown) above the drum and the dial, allowing the indications to be observed.
If the indicator drum is cylindrical, it will be fitted with a slight inclination to the horizontal to allow the seller to read the indications.
The dial 6, instead of being conical, could be flat. An auxiliary indicator member, for example a needle, could be provided instead of this dial, coupled to the tamhour to rotate with the latter and cooperating with a fixed dial.
