Electric starting device with a starter & motor for internal combustion engines. The present invention relates to an electric starting device with a starter motor for internal combustion engines, in which a displaceably arranged motor pinion can be shifted by an electromagnet for the purpose of being able to bring the pinion into engagement with a gearwheel of the machine,
during the engagement movement of the pinion, a switch that can be actuated by the electromagnet is closed so that, after the pinion has been moved into its working position, current can be supplied to the motor via the closed switch. Up to now, a good closing of the switch was dependent on the pinion movement, with the result that the fixed and movable switch contacts only made light contact shortly before the full contact pressure came into effect, a state which can lead to the contacts melting.
The present invention enables the risk of the contacts to melt to be eliminated. The starting device according to the invention has resilient means for causing a closing movement of the switch, which is faster than the movement of the movable part of the electromagnet, these resilient means being arranged such that they are tensioned by the movable part of the electromagnet during a first part of its return movement will. The accompanying drawing shows an exemplary embodiment of the subject matter of the invention, partly in section, partly in view.
In accordance with a known arrangement, the axially movable core a , under the action of a return spring a1, of a solenoid b is at one end by a lever c with a sliding pinion d </ I > connected. A plunger f protrudes from the other end of the core a (through one end of an iron housing e of the solenoid winding). The circuit containing the solenoid coil is controllable by means of a push-button or other hand-operated switch.
On the plunger f, a hollow iron armature g is freely movably arranged, wel cher is held in contact with the adjacent end of the winding housing e by the magnetic leakage flux of the energized winding passing through the armature g on an annular path; The movable contact h of the switch actuating the motor o is mounted on the said armature. A strong spring i is attached within a part p attached to said anchor, one end of which rests on part p and the other end of which rests against a stop , which is formed by a disc j which is displaceable relative to the armature and the piston. A disk k is attached to the piston f .
The arrangement is such that when the winding b is energized for the purpose of engaging the motor pinion d, the armature g is initially held in position by magnetic pull. During the first part of the movement of the core a and the piston f , the disk k is moved forward until it comes into contact with the stop j.
By moving the core and the piston further, the disc k moves the stop, j against the action of the spring i, until this stop j touches the left end of the part p and now tears (after the pinion is partially or completely in engagement with the machine) the armature g from part e, where the spring i makes the contact h with the test contact n1 brings into contact quickly, with the desired full spring pressure. During the return movement of the solenoid core, a spring brings the armature and the movable contact back into their starting position.
In a further embodiment of the device, the movable switch contact can be operated by a lever-like mechanism under the action of a pivot. In such an embodiment, the piston serves to tension the spring and to move the mechanism beyond its central position, the end movement of the contact being effected by the spring independently of the piston.
As a result of the training described, the risk of burning or melting of motor switch contacts is eliminated in a very simple and effective way.
