Fig. 3 dieselbe im Grundriss.
1. Evakuieren der Luft aus der Sterilisationskammer.
Automatic steam sterilizer, in particular for surgical laundry, surgical instruments and the like.
The present invention relates to an automatic steam sterilizer which can be used in particular for the sterilization of surgical washes, surgical instruments and similar objects in hospitals. The apparatus is set up in such a way that the individual phases of the sterilization process unfold completely automatically in the correct order after a manipulation that initiates operation. For this purpose a single rotating control element is provided, which in certain,
the different sterilization phases corresponding times during a single revolution, the direction of rotation and the duration of an elec tromotoriseh operated actuator that determines the valves and switches off automatically at the end of its rotation.
An embodiment of the subject matter of the invention is shown in the drawing.
Fig. 1 shows a view of an automatic steam sterilizer.
Fig. 2 shows a control dial in views and
3 shows the same in plan.
Fig. 4 is a diagram showing the electrical and mechanical. Main parts are shown.
Fig. 5 shows the steam sterilizer with the valves in a schematic front view.
4 and 5, 1 is the sterilization chamber of the apparatus and 2 is the electric heater. This is connected to the power network 25 via a safety contact 3 and a main switch 4. A pressure regulator 5 is on the one hand in electrical connection with the safety contactor 3, on the other hand it acts via a spring tube 6 on a Queeksilver safety rocker 7.
The steam and air valves of the device are arranged in a row one above the other and serve the following purposes:
Valve 8 is a vent valve; the valves 9 and 10, which are mounted next to one another at the same height, are in connection with the steam jet vacuum pump 13 on the one hand and the sterilization chamber 1 or the steam jacket la of the apparatus on the other hand.
The valve 11 establishes the connection between the steam jacket and the sterilization room.
12 is an exhaust valve with which the steam in the sterilization room is released into the open. All valves can be individually mounted on a suitable carrier. But they can also all be cast together as a common valve block. The valves have a spring-loaded valve cone that is lifted from the valve seat when the valve rod is pressed, thereby opening the passage.
A vertical spindle 1.4 is arranged in front of the valves, on which a suitably designed piece 15 is moved up and down when the spindle is rotated and thereby actuates the rods of the valves opposite it, so that these are opened and when the person walks on Pieces 15 are closed again. The spindle 14 is driven by an electric motor 16 via a worm gear 17, 18. The spindle 14 can, however, also be driven by means of a hand crank 19. To achieve the up and down movement of the actuating piece 15, the direction of rotation of the motor 16 is changed by means of a pole changer 20.
This is under the influence of a Queeksilbersehaltwippe 21, which receives its movements from a control disk 22. The latter is driven by a Synehron motor 23 via a reduction gear (not shown).
A button 21a attached to the rocker 21 slides with its free end over the circumference of the control disk 22, which is provided with notches and cams, and switches the pole changer 20 to the downward or upward gear, depending on whether the button 21a is in a detent or on a note Motor 16 or the actuator 15 to.
Finally, a mercury rocker 24 is provided as a final switch, which switches off the entire system when the sterilization is finished.
As is well known, the sterilization process is divided into the following sections:
1. Evacuate the air from the sterilization chamber.
2. Period of equalization, during which the steam let into the sterilization chamber completely penetrated the items to be sterilized and brought them to the sterilization temperature.
3. The actual sterilization period, during which steam is constantly supplied and the exhaust valve is opened at certain time intervals in order to achieve a flowing movement of the steam in the sterilization chamber and thus also the flushing of so-called blind spots.
4. Turning off the steam supply and opening the steam exhaust valve.
5. The drying of the items to be sterilized by sucking the air and steam out of the sterilization chamber again and
6. the ventilation of the latter at the end of the drying period.
The operation of the automatic steam sterilizer shown in the drawings and described above and the switching device is now as follows:
After the items to be sterilized have been burnt into the device, the heating is switched on by closing the electrical devices 3 and 4. From this point on, the operator no longer has to carry out any manipulations on the apparatus until the end of the sterilization. As a result of the heating of the water filled in the jacket la, steam develops, the maximum permissible voltage of which is kept constant by the pressure regulator 5.
When the operating pressure is reached, the spring tube 6 actuates the mercury rocker 7, whereby the synchronous motor 23 is switched on and the control disc 22 is set in rotation in the direction of the arrow. Immediately afterwards the button 21a falls into the first notch 22a and set. zt the lower coil of the pole changer 20 under power. The motor 16 starts moving, specifically in the direction of the downward gear of the actuating piece 15.
This is located at the beginning of a sterilization between the valves 8 on the one hand and 9, 10 on the other hand. When the control disk 22 starts up, it gets in front of the adjacent valves 9 and 0, opens them so that the steam jet pump 13 is started and the sterilization chamber is evacuated in the ways shown in FIGS. 4 and 5.
These are: steam jacket of the apparatus- valve 10-vacuum pump 1. 3; also: interior of the apparatus-valve 9-vacuum pump 13.
The length of the catch 99a is dimensioned such that the motor 16 is kept rotating until the actuating piece 15 has completely opened the valves 9 and 10. The button 21a is then lifted out of the detent and runs on the smooth part of the circumference of the viewing window for a time corresponding to the duration of the evacuation. When the button 21a emerges from the detent 99a, the rocker 21 interrupts the lower coil circuit of the pole changer 20. This is separated from the network 25 and the motor 16 is stopped.
When the second detent 22a is reached by the button 2] a, the motor is restarted in the same way. The actuating piece 15 leaves the valves 9 and 10, whereupon these are closed, and arrives in front of the valve 11, which is now opened. Steam is thus conveyed out of the jacket la into the sterilization room 1. The end of the second detent 22a loves the button 21a on the subsequent smooth part. the length of the pane, whereby this state of steam transfer from the jacket to the sterilization chamber is maintained up to the third detent 22a (equalization period).
This is immediately followed by the actual sterilization period, which begins. It begins with the third Ra, st 29a. It should be added here that the two valves 11 and 12 are closer together than the valves 8, 9 and 10 and that the actuating piece 15 is designed so that it can actuate the valves 11 and 12 at the same time, while the distance for the Valves 8 and (9-10) are too big for this.
If the actuating member 15 is now moved further downwards at the third detent 22a until the valve 12 is actuated, the valve 11 is also kept open due to the nature of the actuating member 15 just described, so that the steam entry into the sterilization chamber is not interrupted, while at the same time steam is released through the exhaust valve.
(Flow through the items to be sterilized.) The duration of the opening of the exhaust valve 12 corresponds to only a small fraction of a minute. Immediately adjacent to the third catch 22a is a notch 22b protruding over the smooth edge of the disk, which moves the rocker 21 for the first time in the opposite direction, so that the upper coil of the pole changer 20 is now energized, the motor 16 and the spindle 1. Run 4 in the opposite direction than before. The loading actuator 15 thus goes up again, closes the exhaust valve 12, but keeps the steam transfer valve 11 still open.
The cam. 22b is only wide enough to keep the motor 16 running until the actuating piece 15 has closed the valve 12 again.
This game of the rocker 21 and the pole changer 20 is repeated during the actual sterilization period at measured intervals different times (in our example four times). At the end of this period, the corresponding detent 22c (the seventh) is kept somewhat longer than the previous ones. This has the effect that the actuating element 1. 5 now closes the valve 11 and only opens the exhaust valve 12. A short connecting piece following the rest determines the time that is necessary to allow all the steam contained in the sterilization chamber to escape through the exhaust valve 12 into the open.
Immediately after the connecting piece follows a wider Noeken 22d, which controls the motor 16 in such a way that the actuating piece 15 rises again, closing the valve 1, when passing the valve 11 it opens again very briefly and continues to run until it stops against valves 9-10 and opens them, thereby initiating the drying period or the second evacuation of the sterilization chamber. This period lasts until the last cam. 22b, the rocker 21 is actuated shortly before the disk 22 has made a complete revolution and the motor 16 is switched on again in the sense of the upwardly rising actuating piece 15.
The valves 9-10 are closed and the ventilation valve 8 is opened for this purpose. Air now flows through the filter 8a into the sterilization chamber. After the last Noeken 22b has left the button 21a and thus caused the motor 16 to appear or the actuating piece 15 to be locked in front of the ventilation valve, this remains open until the pressure equalization between the sterilization chamber and the outside air is achieved. At this point in time, the rocker 24 is overturned via the button 24a from a stop 22e arranged on the back of the control disk 22, thereby switching off the contactor 3 and putting the entire system out of operation.
This ends the cycle of a sterilization process, the lid of the apparatus can be opened and the items to be sterilized can be removed from it. The control disk? ? but has not yet made a full turn.
At the beginning of a new sterilization, the control disc is turned by hand by means of a button 22f attached to it until it has completed a full turn (mark 0). The stop 22e then leaves the button 24a, which prepares the closure of the electrical circuit of the protective cap coil for the start of a new sterilization.
In order to make the status of the sterilization process visible to the operating personnel, a pointer 15a is attached to the actuating piece 15, which indicates on a text board the period in which the sterilization process is at the moment in question. In the inscriptions entered in the drawing, B = ventilation, V = vacuum, S = sterilization, A = exhaust. 26 and 27 are pressure gauges for the sterilization chamber and the steam jacket and 28 is a recording instrument that records the pressure and temperature of the sterilization process and any malfunctions such as.
Failure of electrical energy, etc., can be recognized immediately.
In the specified embodiment it is easily possible to select the speeds of the synchronous motor and the control disc as well as the pitch and width of the notches 29a and cams 22b, 22c, 22d so that they correspond to the times in which the individual sterilization phases are to take place, correspond.
In another embodiment, the valves could be opened and closed by various actuating members arranged on a rotatable shaft instead of an actuating piece moved in the longitudinal direction. This shaft, similar to the spindle 14, could be attached in front of the valves arranged in a row and each of the actuating elements could control a valve. The valves 9 and 10 would then, however, have to lie one on top of the other instead of next to one another, and the translation of the speed from the motor 16 to the shaft would have to be so great that it would only be one change for complete sterilization. rotation would perform.
Instead of being set up in a row along a shaft, the valves could also be arranged in a star shape around a solehe, with one or more cams as a bed, depending on requirements. management organs can be provided.
Furthermore, all valves could be cast as a single multi-way valve in a single block and the valve spindle could be driven by the motor 16 with a corresponding transmission.
The control element 22 could also have a shape other than that shown. For example that of a roller. It goes without saying that for different sterilizations of unequal duration it can be exchanged for other disks with a corresponding notch and cam division.
Instead of a mechanical display device of the respective status of the sterilization process, an acoustic or optical device could also be present which takes on this task.
In the previously known apparatus with automatic control of the individual phases of the sterilization process, the various steam and air valves are each actuated by a small motor and all motor valves are connected to a central control element. In addition, since the position indication of the valves or the progress of the sterilization always takes place electrically in such systems, there are relatively many electrical lines, which significantly impairs the simplicity of the design. Above all, however, due to the numerous expensive engine valves, the price of such a system is relatively high.
These sewing parts, which are not insignificant, are not present in the steam sterilizer described and shown in the drawing. The electrical lines are considerably reduced since only two motors have to be controlled automatically. The valves are of a very simple design and can consequently be manufactured significantly more cheaply than the engine valves. Another simplification that is particularly appreciated in such devices is the mechanized display of the Steriii. sa. tion process.
Furthermore, it is readily apparent that the sterilizer described can not only be electrically heated, but can also be connected directly to a steam source outside the apparatus. Or the steam in the jacket could also be generated by means of a gas flame. In the first case, instead of the protective mask 3, a motor valve located in the steam feed line is controlled by the control organs, and in the second case, a correspondingly designed electrical unit regulating the gas flame.
In the case of larger sterilization systems with a control panel, the control disk 22 can be mounted directly on this, with a pointer attached to its axis indicating the progress or the current status of the sterilization process.
