EMI0001.0019
mit Halogenaeetaniliden der allgemeinen For mel
EMI0001.0021
umsetzen.

where R is an alkyl radical with 7 to 15 carbon atoms, Hal is chlorine or bromine, R 'is a lower alkyl radical and R "is hydrogen, chlorine, bromine, an alkyl or alkoxy radical or several of these substituents are not known to date .
As has been found, these compounds are characterized by a very strong bacteriocidal effectiveness from known quaternary ammonium compounds; at the same time they have the advantage over a large part of these compounds that they are mostly solid crystallized bodies and can therefore be considered for a large number of purposes.
The new compounds can be made according to various related processes.
So you can get basic amides of the general formula

implement. Here and in all other general formulas, R, Hal, R 'and R "always have the meaning given above.
But you can also use compounds of the general formula
EMI0001.0024
with dimethylaminoacetanilides of the general formula

react with methyl chloride or methyl bromide in the autoclave.
The aforementioned reactions can be carried out in the presence or absence of suitable solvents, of which benzene, toluene, xylene, acetone, ethyl and butyl acetate and water may be mentioned, and, if necessary, be facilitated by adding small amounts of potassium iodide.
The basic amides used for the first-mentioned reaction are obtained, for example, by prolonged heating of higher fatty acids, in particular lauric acid or 3 / Iyristic acid, but also palmitic acid, with lower dimethylaminoethyl-alkylamines, with derivatives, in particular acid halides or esters, in place of the free fatty acids same, can be used.
It is not necessary here for the alkyl radical of the fatty acid to have a uniform chain length. Mixtures of higher fatty acids can also be used with advantage, as are the result of the breakdown of vegetable and animal fats and oils. Such Ge mixtures of fatty acids, e.g. In addition to fatty acids with an average alkyl chain length of 11 to 13 carbon atoms, they also contain small amounts of lower and higher fatty acids.
These fractions can be separated off by a single distillation and a fatty acid mixture is then obtained which essentially has an alkyl chain length of 11 to 13 carbon atoms.

be for example the chloroacet and bromoacet anüid, -o-toluidid, -m-tolLiidid, -p-toluidid, -o-anisidide, -m-anisidide, -p-anisidide, -o-chloro-anilide, -m-chloranilide, -p-chloranilide, -p-bromo-anilide,
-3,4-dichloroanilide, -2,4-dimethylanilide and -2,5-dimethylanilide.
The new compounds can be used in the form of their aqueous solutions for disinfecting the skin surfaces of humans and animals as well as for the disinfection of living spaces, floors or everyday objects of all kinds, such as cutlery, dishes, medical instruments, hospital linen, etc., but also sputum, excrement etc. find use. The use solutions can be used by the consumer in the usual way, for. B. by diluting concentrated solutions, prepared or by direct dissolution of the solid compounds in what water. For the latter use, the new compounds can also be brought into tablet form. Furthermore, they can, for example, by the addition of other disinfecting rend acting substances such.
B. phenols, or of rust inhibitors such. B. of Na trium nitrite or sodium oetyloxyessigsaurem, can be adapted to various uses. Furthermore, they can also be incorporated into ointments and pastes combined with powdered substances or with organic solvents.
The disinfecting effect is excellent both against gram-positive infectious agents, such as staphylococci, and against gram-negative ones, such as Baeteriunz coli, Ty phus, ParatyphLis B, Baeterium pyoeyaneum, enteritis gardener, etc., excellent. As a result of their capillary-active properties, the new compounds can also be used as wetting and dispersing agents for various technical purposes, for example in the leather, paper and textile industries.
The subject of the present patent is a process for the production of a quaternary ammonium compound. The process is characterized in that a compound of the formula
EMI0003.0001
with a compound of the formula
EMI0003.0002
X-CH2 - CO-NH- <SEP> <D,
<tb> CH,
<tb> where <SEP> the <SEP> an <SEP> X <SEP> the <SEP> -N <SEP> <CH, <SEP> and
<tb> CH3 the other X mean chlorine, converts.
In carrying out the process, dodecanoyl 1-N, N-dimethy 1-aminoethyl-N'-methylamide can be allowed to react with chloroacetanilide, or dodecanoyl-ß-chloro-ethyl-methylamide is used with dimethylamino-acetic anilide around.
The new compound obtained, the (dodeceatioy 1-N'-methy 1-aminoethyl) - (phenylcarba- myl-methyl) -dimethylammonium chloride, has a melting point of 124. It should be used as a disinfectant.
Example 1: 284 parts of dodecanoyl-N, N-dimethylamino-ättiyl-N'-ynethyl-amide with a boiling point of 140 to 160 at 0.3 mm pressure (e.g. from lauric acid and trimethylethylenediafnin prepared) who boiled with 169.5 parts of chloroacetanilide in 800 parts of ethyl acetate for 6 hours under reflux. The precipitation that occurs when standing is sucked off.
After recrystallization from acetone, (Dodeeanoyl-N'-methyl-aminoethyl) - (phenylcarba.myl-methyl) .- dimethyl-ammonium chloride is obtained as a white substance with a melting point of 124, which is clearly soluble in water .. Example < I> 2: </I> 275.5 parts of dodecanoyl-ss-chloro-ethyl-methylamide and 178 parts of dimethylamino-acetic anilide are refluxed in 600 parts of ethyl acetate for 12 hours.
After cooling, the product is filtered off with suction and after crystallization from ethyl acetate, (dodecanoyl -N'-ynethyl-aminoethyl) - (phenyl-carbamyl-methyl) - dimethyl-ammonium chloride of melting point 124 is obtained.
