Machine-outil.

<I>Dispositif de</I> commande <I>d'outils</I> travaillant <I>en bout.</I>
.Mécanisme d'entrainernent <I>et de</I> transmission.
<I>Dispositif de commande du</I> mouvement <I>de</I> va-et-vient <I>du chariot.</I>
.Mécanisme <I>de</I> déplacement <I>pas</I> éz <I>pas</I> <I>de la tourelle.</I>
<I>Dispositifs de</I> commande <B>(le</B><I>la tourelle</I> <I>et des</I> chariots transversaux.

Fig. 17 is a schematic elevational view thereof.
Fig. 18 shows a side elevational view partially in section of the turret carrier, and FIG. 19 is an end view of FIG. 18. The main frame A of the machine preferably has the shape of a piece of furniture and carries on its upper part a rotating spindle B provided with a clamp B 'workpiece holder. This spindle is driven from a motor C through a gear change mechanism D, the motor with the transmission being housed in the frame. The spindle is journaled in a frame E which is provided on its front face and on each side of the spindle with a slide E ′ intended to receive tool-holder carriages P and <B> P </B> movable transversely.
The tools working at the end are. carried by a turret forming part of a tool holder device as described below. <I> Device for </I> control <I> tools </I> working <I> end-to-end. </I>
A slide t1 'on which a device G is mounted in an adjustable manner is provided on the main frame A to the right and to the rear (the spindle (fig. 1, 2 and 3). This device G comprises a base G' s 'engaging in the slide 11', a transmission case G2 on the right and extending above the base G 'and an electric motor G3 mounted on the upper part of the case G2.
A slide G-1 on which is mounted a carriage <I> II </I> capable of moving back and forth is provided on the upper part of the base G ', the carriage H carrying a tool-holder turret I associated with a step-by-step movement mechanism. not. The tools mounted in the turret must be successively aligned on the axis of the rotating spindle, so that during several successive movements of the carriage in one direction and in the other the part carried by the spindle is born by the tools. . It is preferable that the drive mechanism of the carriage is placed as close as possible to the axis of the spindle.
However, like the. turret is located between the spindle and this mechanism, any collision is avoided by tilting the axis of the turret relative to the axis of the spindle, each of the tools carried by the turret being however aligned with the axis of the spindle when it is in the working position. In other words, the tools instead of remaining in the vertical plane of the axis of the spindle are moved away from this plane for all the positions that do not correspond to the working position. Consequently, the means for moving the carriage can be arranged almost in alignment with the axis of the spindle without thereby conflicting with the turret or with any of the tools which it carries.
The G3 motor is used not only for the actuation of the carriage H, but also for the actuation of all control and handling mechanisms. These include a longitudinally extending main camshaft J. and an auxiliary camshaft J 'perpendicular to the main shaft .I, these two shafts being driven at the same speed. The auxiliary camshaft J 'actuates a special cam J \ = shaped for the particular job that the machine has to. achieve.
Its main function is to operate the carriage H à. determined time intervals and at selected feed rates, so as to advance the tools successively in the active position with respect to the workpiece carried by the rotating spindle. However, since the turret is part of the device G, the relationship between the tools and the workpiece can. be changed by adjusting device G on the frame of the. ma chine, which makes it easier to adjust the machine for variable-binding work.
Such adjustment means are shown in FIGS. 3 and 8 in which G6 represents a protruding tab at. the end of the slide a '. G7 designates a micrometric screw engaged with said tab and resting against the end of the base (\ which can thus be adjusted longitudinally with respect to the slide and G9 designates clamping screws for fixing the various parts in their position adjusted. <I> and </I> transmission drive mechanism.
Before describing in more detail the turret and its sliding and step-by-step displacement mechanism, we will describe the gear trains extending between the motor C = 3 and the various mechanisms to be actuated. A two-speed pulley with belt 10 transfers the rotation of the motor G3 to a shaft 11 extending longitudinally into the housing G2.
Engaged gears 12 and 13 connect the shaft 11 to a parallel shaft 14 on which is wedged a toothed wheel 15 meshing with a toothed wheel 16 mounted on a sleeve mounted idle on the shaft <B> 11. </B> The toothed wheel 16 engages a toothed wheel 17 connected to a bevel gear 18 which in turn engages a bevel gear 19 wedged on a shaft 20 extending transversely of the shafts 11 and 14 and which is in a separate compartment or G5 gearbox provided at the rear of the G2 housing.
In this box G5 are mounted gears 21 for the variable speed drive of a shaft 22 extending in the housing Gz parallel to the shaft 20 and aligned with a shaft 23a to which it is connected by a coupling 22b. . A toothed wheel and chain drive 23 transmits the movement. from the shaft 22a to a parallel shaft 24 via a coupling 25.
Shaft 24 carries a worm 26 which engages a worm gear 27 keyed to camshaft J. Thus, when coupling 25 is engaged, camshaft J is driven from the engine at a greatly reduced speed. Camshaft J 'is driven from camshaft J through bevel gears 28 to rotate at the same angular speed, and shaft J' operates special cam J2. In.
in addition to the transmission which has just been described, there is another which comprises a toothed wheel 29 in mesh with the toothed wheel 16 and mounted on the hollow shaft 30 extending: in the housing G2. A splined shaft 30a can slide inside the hollow shaft 30 with which it is engaged by its splines, this. shaft 30a extending beyond the shaft 30 in a gearbox H 'provided on the carriage H. The shaft 30a is held to the casing <I> II' </I> de facton to be able to move longitudinally with it.
Bevel wheels 32 driven from the shaft 30a communicate their movement to a shaft 33 extending transversely in the housing H 'and passing through its front wall, this shaft 33 carrying an eccentric formed by a disc 34 and a button crank 35. The shaft 33 is part of a stepping mechanism for the tool-holder turret and will be described later, but the eccentric is part of the means for controlling the back-and-forth movement. - comes from the cart. A normally disengaged coupling 31 constitutes a drive connection between the toothed wheel 29 and the shaft 30, so that the latter does not normally rotate.
However, as will be described later when the clutch is released, only one revolution will be part of the shafts 30 and 30a, to actuate the stepping mechanism. <I> Device for controlling the </I> reciprocating </I> movement <I> of the carriage. </I>
The crank button 35 is connected to a rod 36 itself connected at its other end to an oscillating member 37. A roller 38 is mounted on the member 37 and is provided on the path of the cam J2, so that pen dant rotation thereof, the member 37 is tilted, communicating its movement through the rod 36 to the button of my level 35.
Assuming that the crank does not turn and that the crank knob 35 is in or near neutral with respect to the rod 36, the movement of the latter will be communicated to the carriage <I> II </ I> who will be. moved along the slide G4. Such a movement takes place against the action of springs 39 arranged in grooves 40 formed in the slideway G4 (fig. 18), these springs resting against stops 39a at their front ends, while at their rear ends they are engaged by fingers 40 'projecting from the carriage H.
Thus, the return movement of the carriage is effected by virtue of the force developed by the res spells, this force maintaining the roller 38 in contact with the surface of the cam J2. Until now, the crank button 35 has been assumed to be stationary, but as will be explained later, the step-by-step movement of the ton-; This is done during the reciprocating movement of the carriage and increases the amplitude of the reciprocating movement by the stroke of said crank button. .Mechanism <I> of </I> movement <I> steps </I> ez <I> steps </I> <I> of the turret. </I>
After each back and forth movement of the H carriage, the turret must be rotated to bring another tool into alignment with the workpiece in the spindle. The shaft 33 carries a toothed wheel 41 meshing with a toothed wheel 42 carried by the parallel shaft 43 disposed between the shaft 33 and the turret I. The axis of the turret being oblique with respect to the axis of the spindle, this axis is also inclined with respect to the shafts 33 and 43. However, the intermittent rotational movement is transmitted from the shaft 43) to the turret by means of a cross mechanism. Malta, comprising a disc 44 on the shaft 43 and a roller crank knob 45 protruding from the disc.
As shown in fig. 14, the tower I comprises a body I1 journalled in a bearing <I> H2 </I> mounted in the housing H. The rear end of the body I1 carries a conical member 12 which has a series of radial grooves P whose. the number corresponds to that of the turret tool holders. The angle of the cone of the member 12 is such that the grooves P extend practically parallel to the plane of the disc 44 and during each revolution of this disc the crank button 45 comes. in engagement with grooves P to rotate the member 12 from one position to another.
The turret is blocked after each step-by-step movement operation by a locking pin 14 which is mounted smoothly in the casing H 'and which has a conical end 15 intended to engage in one of the bushings 16 mounted in the . rear part of the turret. A spring 17 urges the pin I4 in its blocked position. Before each rotation of the turret, the peg I4 is moved apart by actuating a lever 1s which is actuated by the cam 19 of the toothed wheel 42.
The arrangement is such that during part of the rotation of the disc 44, the cam 19 actuates the lever Is to move the. locking pin, tan say that the crank button 45 is released from the groove Ij. Thus, as soon as the crank button 45 engages with a groove 13, the turret can rotate freely from position to position. another. However, as soon as the crank button 45 comes out of the groove Ia, the cam 19 releases the pin I4 which, under the effect of the spring 17, relocks the turret.
The control of the step-by-step movement mechanism of the turret which has just been described is carried out by a single rotation of the shaft 30 which, as has already been described, is carried out by the engagement of the coupling. 31, from Tacon to. connect said. shaft, the toothed wheel 29. The coupling 31 is hand held normally disengaged from the. toothed wheel 29 by a pin 46 carried by a rocking arm 48 and engaging with an annular groove 47 of the coupling sleeve.
A return lever 49 extends from the rocking arm 48 to. proximity to a rotary head 50 mounted on the camshaft J, this head comprising a series of cams 51 adjustable in position and corresponding. in the name of the positions of the turret in Him cycle. A finger 52 of the lever 49 is actuated by each of the cams 51 to tilt the arm 48 and remove the pin 46 from the groove 47.
A spring. 53 acts on the ac-coupling sleeve when the latter is disengaged by the pin 46, so as to instantly engage the coupling, but immediately afterwards, said pin 46 returns, in the groove 47 and a cam 47a provided in said groove comes. engaged with the ankle and spreads the sleeve, so as to. disengage the coupling. In summary, the coupling 31 is engaged by the action of the arm 48, but is released at the end of a single revolution of the shaft 30.
As has already been described, the carriage <I> II </I> is moved by the action of the cam J2 together with the return springs 39 of said carriage. The character of the movement imparted to the carriage is therefore mainly determined by the shape of the cam J2 which is such that it produces successive reciprocating movements in a cycle of the camshaft. . However, this operation does not interfere with the periodic operation of the stepping drive mechanism of the turret as described above, and parts of these operations may take place simultaneously. Thus, the rotation of the shaft 30 drives the shaft 33, the head 34 and the crank button 35 which transmits a movement to the carriage <I> II </I> in addition to that produced by the rod 36.
This has the effect. quickly move the carriage to disengage the tool from the workpiece, (so that while the button of my level 45 engages with the I% slot, the tool is released from the workpiece to avoid obstructing the rotation of the turret Adjustable crank.
The total displacement of the carriage that can be achieved corresponds to the displacement im left by the cam J2 which is always adapted to the desired length of the turning for the part to be manufactured plus an appropriate amount of the travel of the crank knob 35 just sufficient to spread and move the turret with the tools independently of the cam. Therefore it would be. advantageous <the power to increase or decrease the stroke of the crank with respect to the movement obtained from the cam. In other words, the ideal condition would be to have a small crank stroke for a short workpiece and a larger stroke for a longer workpiece. A device will be described below which makes it possible to quickly adjust the crank stroke.
The disc 34 comprises a diametral groove or slide 34a, in which is mounted a slide 35a which carries the crank knob 35. The shaft 33 has a pin 33a projecting axially and coming into engagement with one of the recesses 35b formed. in the slide 35a, so that, by moving said pin from one recess to the other, the eccentricity of the crank 35 can be changed.
The slide 35a can be attached to the disc 34 by a cover 34b which is recessed to receive the slide and which fits around the periphery of the disc. This cover is fixed to the disc by screws 31; and a radial groove 34d is provided in its front face to allow the passage of the button of my level 35 in each adjustment position thereof. The assembly described being on the front part of the machine, without any member interfering with it, the adjustment of the crank stroke can thus be carried out quickly.
The speed of operation of the crank and hence the time required for a reciprocating movement of the carriage can be varied by moving the transmission belt 10 from one pulley to the other. In this way, or by any other suitable speed changing device, the time required for each cycle of machine operation can be reduced to the minimum necessary for a particular job; which improves the efficiency of the machine. <I> Control devices </I> <B>(the</B> <I> the turret </I> <I> and </I> transverse carriages.
The main camshaft J passes through the housing G2 and carries the helical wheel 27, the bevel gear 28 and the head 50, d.e so that the device G can be adjusted longitudinally without interfering with the camshaft. Beyond the casing G2, this shaft extends to the left (fig. 1 and 2) and carries cams K and K 'for controlling the transverse carriages b' and I ". Cams K2, K3, etc. , are also carried by the shaft J to control the actuation of accessories.
In addition to these control devices, the rotary spindle is controlled by a series of cam mechanisms regulating its speed of rotation, its direction of rotation and the engagement and disengagement of the workpiece. These mechanisms can be mounted directly on the camshaft J, but it is preferable, for convenience and to facilitate access, that they are mounted on a J3 shaft disposed above the frame <I > A, </I> but driven from the shaft <I> J, </I> at the same speed as the latter by the intermediary of gears J4 (fig. 16 and 17). The L mechanism controls the speed of rotation of the motor C. The M mechanism controls the direction of rotation of the spindle by controlling a reversing mechanism in the D transmission.
The mechanism N controls the opening and closing of the clamp B 'and also the advancement of the bar through the spindle when the clamp is open. Means may be provided between these mechanisms and the devices actuated by them, these means possibly being mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic or electric. However, combined pneumatic and electric controls of the following construction have been schematically shown. The motor C is electrically connected to a rheostat 0 intended to modify the resistance of the motor circuit and to act, consequently, on the speed of rotation of the latter. The rheostat is controlled by switches, not represented, with relays which, at. in turn, are controlled by a spring switch L '.
This switch is actuated by a pair of levers L2, <I> L3, </I> which move it respectively to positions corresponding to operation of the motor at slow or high speeds. The levers L2 and L3 cooperate with fingers L4, L5 mounted in an adjustable manner on a rotary head L6 mounted on the shaft J3.
Thus, the finger L4 actuates the lever L2 at a certain angular position of the head Le to move the switch L 'to a position corresponding to a low speed of rotation and in the same way the finger L5 actuates the lever L3 to move the switch. switch L 'in a position corresponding to high engine speed.
Mechanism 11 is similar to mechanism L and operates an electrical switch t1'1 'via levers 1112, 1113 which, in turn, are operated by fingers? I14 and D'15 mounted with adjustable dewlap. on a rotary head 11l6. The switch DI 'actuates an air valve P which controls a servomotor P' intended to move a clutch member of the transmission D,
so as to reverse the direction of rotation of the driven shaft D1. This shaft D1 is connected by a chain transmission D to the spindle B and, therefore, when the direction of the transmission is reversed, this shaft D1 also reverses the direction of rotation of the spindle.
The mechanism N controls a switch N 'by means of a lever N2 and a finger N3, the switch in turn controlling, by a time relay, a pneumatic valve Q for actuating a servomotor Q '(fig. 16). This motor moves a lever Q2 which actuates the clamp D 'so that in one position the clamp grips the workpiece and in the other position it releases the latter.
Would work. The operation of the machine described is as follows: The device C is first of all adjusted longitudinally on the. slide <l_ 'to place it in a suitable way with respect to the spindle for the particular work to be carried out. The end working tools are mounted on the turret in the proper order and the J2 cam which is shaped for the particular job at hand is mounted on the J 'shaft. The cams 51 are arranged on the rotary head 50, so as to suitably adjust the operation of the stepping mechanism of the turret.
If the workpiece is also to be shaped by laterally working tools, these are placed in the transverse carriages r 'and selected cams K and F' mounted on the camshaft J are provided to control these. carts. The fingers of the mechanisms <I> L, </I> 111 <I> and </I> N are also adjusted to control respectively the speed of rotation of the spindle, the direction of rotation of the latter, as well as the opening and closing of the clamp. When all these items have been set, the machine is ready to operate automatically.
As has already been described, the device C can be easily adjusted longitudinally, so as to adapt to. work that varies considerably in length and without the need to consider a cam diameter or tool clearance from the turret. This character, in addition to the easy access of the crank button 35 for adjusting its stroke, as well as the variable speed drive of the displacement mechanism. of the turret makes it possible to change the use of the machine very quickly either: for a long turning length with the necessarily slow movement of the turret, or. for shorter turning length, with rapid turret travel.
The described machine therefore facilitates a faster and easier adjustment and also combines two types of machines in one, it also makes it possible to speed up the work.
As has also already been described, the front part of the machine does not have any troublesome mechanism, so that access to the workpiece is free and. that a space is provided to receive the shavings and the trimmings. The special cam J <B> 2 </B> is in an accessible position in the front part, as is the case for the crank button 35.
