A method and apparatus for gasifying coarse-grained carbonaceous materials which agglomerate upon heating. 1: n gasifying coarse-grained carbonaceous materials which agglomerate when they are heated, for example coking coal, in conventional tank gasifiers, certain difficulties are encountered.
In fact, the material to be gasified, which is cold when it enters the upper part of the gasifier, heats up as it descends in the gasifier, and its tarry substances become soft, which causes the material to agglomerate as soon as the temperature reaches about -100 C. Since this temperature is considerably lower than the gasification temperature at the bottom of the gasifier, it. forms above the zone (the gasification a compact layer, blocked in the gasifier, -and preventing the rise of the mixture (the gas produced.
It has already been proposed to break this layer, which is difficult to penetrate by means of fire spikes or stirrers, but this method is difficult to put into practice, especially when it involves manual work, while mechanical execution. involves the disadvantage of heavy wear.
The object of the invention is to avoid these difficulties; its object is a process for ga zeifying coarse-grained carbonaceous materials which agglomerate. during heating, in tank gases; this process is characterized in that the material to be gasified passes through a tubular space between the wall of the upper chi-gas generator part and a central pipe for the evacuation of the gas, and. descends into a part of the vessel with a larger section, where it is distributed into larger grains and smaller grains, so that the gas mixture. amount of. lower zone of ga zeification, divides and.
forms separate streams, which avoids the formation of a compact layer of agglomerated material.
The invention can be applied to various species of tank gasifiers, in particular for example gasifiers operating with a withdrawal of liquid slag.
The accompanying drawing shows, schematically. and. by way of example, apparatus for implementing the invention. In da. fig. 7, a part of a tank of ga zogen is shown. A loading device 1 brings the material to be gasified into the tubular space 2, formed by the upper part of the wall of the gasifier and by the central pipe 3 for the evacuation of the gas.
The length of this. space 2 is as it can. collect an amount of material to be gasified larger than a single batch of the device 1, while the periodic charging frequency is. such that there is always material to be gasified in space 2. From this. space 2, the material to be gasified descends into part 4 of the gasifier tank, where a temperature prevails such that it occurs. agglomeration.
As the gases rise so # - tent for the. most of it through the central pipe 3, the material to be gasified is heated only moderately in the tubular space 2, so that. entering space 4, its temperature is approximately 100-150 C. As indicated in fig. 1, the. wall widens below space 2, so that space 4 has a larger diameter than the part above.
Thanks to this widening, the material to be gasified, which enters space 4, spreads over a greater width, so that the larger pieces move away from the point of fall and come to be placed against the wall and in the middle of the gasifier, under the tu y at 3, while the smaller pieces descend for the most part just below the tubular space 2.
. As the rising gas mixture passes more easily. between the larger pieces than between the smaller ones, there are formed in space 4 two main streams of gas, a stream along the wall and a central stream. The stream. which rises along the wall joins., at the top of space 4, the central gas stream, and the two combined streams exit through the central pipe 3. Between these two hot gas streams, there is inside the gasifier a zone where the material to be gasified has relatively little contact with the hot gases and, consequently, does not reach.
No, temperatures as high as in areas swept by gas currents.
In contrary. to the processes using conventional tank gasifiers, the process according to the invention does not give rise to the formation of an agglomerated layer and. compact in terms of gasification. The agglomeration does take place locally, in particular. in places where the. the material to be carbonated is in contact with the ascending currents of hot gases.
When agglomerations have formed in these places, the gas stream changes direction, until on the way to the new direction agglomerations have also formed, after which the current. of gas changes direction again and resumes its initial path, because the agglomerated zone, formed previously, has meanwhile descended and has reached the gasification zone. Instead of a compact layer of agglomerated matter, several local agglomerations are formed which accumulate in a vertical direction and do not produce congestion.
The material to be carbonated is only moderately heated, arriving at the enlarged upper part of the. tank, so that the flow of gas can pass freely through it to enter the central pipe. The movement of this gas stream and the dispersal of the material to be gasified can be facilitated by introducing a stream of cold gas at the top. of the, part of the tank whose section is. larger (see fig. '?, pipe 5).
In addition, the direction of the gas flow in the upper part of the enlargement of the chamber can be changed by providing an adjustable central pipe. In fig. 3 and 4, a raised position 3a has been shown respectively. and a 3 o'clock low position of the central pipe. In this way, the distribution of the material to be gasified according to its grain size and, therefore, also. the formation of agglomerations can. be changed.
The displacement of the material to be gasified can. be facilitated by providing a movable central pipe, which can be actuated either by hand or mechanically, and which can rotate about its axis and / or can be actuated vertically and / or horizontally, or can be driven by 'a pendular or vibratory movement.
The operation. gasifier can be improved by adding to the material to be gasified other carbonaceous materials which do not clump when heated, for example coke, charcoal, gray coal, lignite, etc. , and / or other materials, such as ores, in small amounts, for example a few percent.
Preferably, materials of an average grain size are added. is. larger, or smaller than the. average grain size of the material to be -asified. Si Fon adds subjects including. -grain grinder is larger, these will be placed in the widened part of the tank, especially along the pa king and in the middle of the gasifier, like the large pieces of material to be gasified, which favors the passage of the gas stream.
If, on the other hand, we add. Materials whose grain size is. smaller, these will not generally slide towards the. .wall and mid instead of the gasifier, but will descend straight under the tubular space, so that in the. enlarged part of the vessel, a tubular gas stream can be formed as soon as the gas stream which rises between the larger particles is hampered by the formation of agglomerations.
