Process for the preparation of an acyl acetic acid arylide. It has been found that a valuable acyl acetic acid arylide can be produced if 2 moles of a reactive derivative of acetoacetic acid are condensed with 1 mole of 1,4-di-amino-2,5-diethoxybenzene.
The new acyl acetic arylide corresponds to the formula
EMI0001.0010
and is a light, brown-gray powder with a melting point of 207 to 2080, recrystallized from alcohol, which, through coupling with sulfonated diazo components, delivers valuable disazo dyes in bulk or on a substrate.
As a reactive derivative. of the ethylacetic acid can be used with advantage its relatively moderately accessible esters, for example its ethyl esters. The reaction of such esters with the diaminobenzene can be carried out in a manner known per se, for example by heating with oil in inert solvents such as benzene, toluene, xylene, mono-, di- and trichlorobenzene with or without the addition of solubilizing or catalytic or
enolizing substances such as dimethylamines, pyridine, ethanolamines, traces of caustic alkalis, alcohol, etc., can be carried out. Example: 600 parts of xylene, 5 parts of triethanolamine and 3 parts of ethyl alcohol are heated to boiling together in a stirred flask with a descending stirrer until the initially cloudy distillate has distilled over clear.
62.2 parts of acetoacetic ester are then added and the distillation continues until the distillate is clear again. 38.0 parts of 1,4-diamino-2,5-diethoxybenzene are then introduced within about an hour; condensation is carried out until the alcohol is split off, i.e. about two to three hours, and the alcohol formed is continuously distilled off. One lets cool down; the crystallized condensation product is sucked off and briefly with to remove the adhering xylene. Distilled water vapor.
The product freed from the condensation medium in this way is filtered off with suction after cooling and dissolved in dilute sodium hydroxide solution with the addition of a little ethyl alcohol. Impurities are filtered off and the condensation product is precipitated by the addition of acids.
