Bicycle whose crankset contains a gear change device. The object of the invention is a bicycle whose crankset contains a gear change device.
This bicycle is characterized in that the axis of the crankset acts on a chain wheel mounted to rotate on the axis of the crankset, by means of planetary gear trains subjected to the action of a manual control for select the speeds, and in that the chain wheel is provided with a brake drum and iui control pinion actuating a light generator that comprises the. bicy clette.
Four embodiments of the bicycle forming the subject of the invention and a variant are. described below, by way of example, with reference to the accompanying drawing.
Fig. 1 of the drawing shows, in section, the crankset of a first embodiment. The fia. 2 is a cut made along cc-a of the fia. 1.
The fia. 3 is. a section made by b-b of fig. I, but comprising a variant of the drive of the electric current generator included in the bicycle.
Fig. 4 shows the pedal of a second embodiment.
Fig. 5 shows the pedal of a third embodiment.
The fia. 6 is a section, on a larger scale, made by ç-ç of FIG. 5 (engaged position), fig. 7 is a view similar to that of FIG. 6, showing the disengaged position.
The fia. 8 shows, in part, the crankset of a fourth embodiment.
The crankset shown in fig. 1 to 3 allows obtaining three different speeds. 1 designates the crankcase of this crankset.
Inside the housing 1, three crowns 2, 3 and 4- rotate freely.
The axis of the crankset 5 passes right through the housing. It is mounted on ball bearings 6 and receives the pedals 7; it comprises arms 8 which carry axles 9 on which satellites 10 are mounted.
Each satellite has three pinions of different diameters which mesh respectively with the three crowns.
The larger diameter pinion of each satellite meshes, moreover, with a pinion 11 integral with the chain wheel 12.
The assembly 11 and 12 mounted on ball bearings 13 rotates freely around the axis 5. A diaphragm 14 separates the casing into two parts: a chamber contains the chain wheel 1.2 and a brake 15, 1.6, operating at, dry ; the other chamber constitutes an oil bath for the pine nuts which it contains.
The operation is that of any planetary gear train.
If the large crown wheel 2 is blocked by means of a pawl (not shown) attack a ratchet 17 and if the pedals are rotated, the satellites turn on themselves and drive the pinion 11 as well as the wheel chain 12. A small demulti plication is obtained.
If the crown 3 is blocked by means of a pawl attacking the ratchet 18 of said crown, an average reduction is obtained.
If the small crown 4 is blocked by means of a pawl attacking its ratchet 19, a large reduction is obtained.
If, during walking, one stops pedaling, the wheel 12 driven by the rear wheel of the bicycle continues to rotate. The satel lites driven by the pinion 1.1 turn on themselves and in turn drive the crowns which start to turn upside down at low speed.
It can therefore be seen that the pawls, not shown: - felt, attacking the ratchets 17, 18, 19 are freewheel pawls. It is therefore possible to mount a fixed pinion on the rear wheel of the bicycle.
Having mounted a fixed pinion on the rear wheel, it is possible without inconvenience to transfer the braking forces through the intermediary of the chain.
For this purpose, the braking device 15 is mounted inside a drum 16 integral with the wheel 12 (automotive type jaw brake). It could also be mounted outside the drum (shoe or band brake).
The electric generator 20 is driven by the drum 16. Various drive systems are possible, namely Drive by angle gears. The axis of the generator is then perpendicular to the axis of the crankset (fig. 1).
Drive by chain wheel 12 (fig. 3). The axis of the generator is then parallel to the axis of the crankset.
The embodiment shown in FIG. 4 corresponds, with a few details, to that shown in FIG. 1. However, the housing cover 21 takes the place of the sealing membrane 14, the ball bearing of the housing cover is replaced by a ball bearing 22 interposed between the cover 21 and the hub 23 of the chain wheel. and the brake drum, and the drive of the generator is provided by a toothed wheel 24 integral with the hub 23 and located in the oil bath of the crankcase.
The crankset shown in fig. 5 com takes a housing 24 inside which two rings 25 and 26 rotate freely.
The axle 27 of the crankset passes through the casing 24 as well as the cover 24 'of the latter. It is centered towards one of its ends in the casing 24 using a ball bearing 29 and, towards its other end inside a hub 30 using a ball bearing 31 .
The hub 30 is centered respectively in the cover 24 'and on the axle 27 by means of ball bearings 32 and 33.
It comprises on the outside of the housing a chain wheel 34 provided with the drum 35 with a braking device 36.
The axis 27 comprises two radial arms 37 provided with axes 38 on which satellites 39 are mounted.
Each satellite has two pinions of different diameters which mesh respectively with the rings 25 and 26.
The pinions of each satellite mesh respectively with pinions 40 and 41 centered on the hub 30, but mounted as a ratchet to form a freewheel.
Each of the pinions 40 and 41 can therefore drive the chain wheel 34, but cannot be driven by it.
The snap-fastening (not shown because it is known) of the pinion 40 acts permanently, while that of the pinion 41 is produced by a ratchet 42 and a pawl 43 which can be disengaged by the action of a device allowing its control by flexible cable from the handlebars of the bicycle.
The device is as follows. The pawl 43 is pivoted on a part 44 integral with the hub 30.
A double pawl 45 is pivoted on the cover 24 'of the housing 24. It can oscillate its axis under the control of a flexible cable (not shown). One of the fingers 45 '(fig. 6 and 7) of this double pawl hooks in passing the ring 46 provided for this purpose with a stop 46' and blocks it for a short time, thus forcing it to move angularly on the ratchet ring 4.4 which, during this time; keep turning.
This movement causes the tension of a return spring 47 which constantly tends to return the parts 44 and 46 to their respective initial positions.
A cam 94 'integral with the part 44, lifting the pawl 45', limits the relative displacement of 46 with respect to 44.
At the end of the movement, a res pawl 48 mounted on the ring 46 locks the latter on the part 44 and prevents it from returning to its initial position.
In short, an oscillating finger 45 'has hooked the ring 46 in passing, the displacement of which on the ring 44 has had the effect of: 1 arming the return spring 47.
2 To give freedom of movement to a spring ratchet 43 which was previously raised and which therefore engages in a tooth of the ratchet 42. It follows that the drive of the chain wheel -34 is made by pinion 41.
The release of the pawl 43 is obtained by reversing the double pawl 45 (fig. 7).
The tilt. the oscillating finger 45 "hooks the pawl 48 in the process, unlocks it rust, and the ring 46 recalled by its res out 47 resumes its initial position, forcing the pawl 43 to disengage from the ratchet 42 and, therefore, pinion 41 is disengaged.
Under these conditions: Zer case. - The pawl 43 being disengaged, the pinion 41 turns idle without driving the chain wheel 34.
If the large crown 25 is blocked in the housing, the small crown 26 remaining, free, the device 25, 39, 40 drives the chain wheel 34 according to the smallest .demultipli cation (i.e. the first speed thus called for the differentiate from the following three). If, on the contrary, the small crown 26 is blocked in the housing by releasing the large crown 25, the device 26, 39, 40 drives the chain wheel 34 at the second speed.
2nd case. - The pawl 43 being engaged with the teeth of the ratchet 42, the chain wheel 34 is driven by the pinion 41. The pinion 40, the rotational speed of which is lower, turns backwards in freewheel and everything happens as if it does not exist.
If the large crown 25 is blocked in the housing, the small crown remaining free, the device 25, 39, 41 drives the chain wheel 34 according to the third speed.
If the small crown 26 is blocked in the housing by releasing the large crown, the device 26, 39, 41 drives the chain wheel 34 according to the greatest reduction or fourth speed.
According to a fourth embodiment, the bicycle is provided with an auxiliary motor. The crankset of this embodiment is shown, in part in FIG. 8.
It is important that walking can be performed at will, either by the pedals alone (engine stopped), or by the engine alone (pedals stopped), or simultaneously by the engine and the pedals, the gears being always usable, even in the case of running with the engine alone.
In addition, it must be possible to start the engine by pedaling.
This is obtained from the fact that the motor member 49 of the planetary gear trains, which is a hollow shaft, is rotatably mounted on the axis 50 of the crankset and is connected thereto by means of a so-called freewheel locking device placed at 51.
The motor member 49 can therefore be driven either by the pedals or directly by the motor, via a pinion 52 integral with the motor member 49.
In all of the embodiments described above, the drive of the rear wheel of the bicycle requires a small chain wheel in the crankset and a large chain wheel on the rear wheel of the bicycle. This results in a very significant reduction in the forces supported by the chain and greater efficiency of the brake.
