Description

Device for fixing a removable branch to its support,
 especially for medical instruments.

The subject of the invention is a device for fixing a removable branch to its support, in particular for medical instruments.

The attached drawing shows, by way of example, one embodiment of the device for fixing to a metal support 1 of a branch 2 made of a transparent synthetic plastic material, such as polymethyl methacrylate, which is well suited to lighting provided by an electric lamp, the logs of which are indicated in 3.

Fig. 1 is a plan view of the device.

Fig. 2 is the profile, in section.

The metal support 1 comprises a fork of which the two parts 4, 5 serve as a guide for the removable branch, of rectangular section, intended to be adapted to each other.

Each of the parts is pierced with holes 6 in which balls 7 are housed, of diameter slightly larger than that of the holes, contained in small sockets 8 blocked in the removable branch and arranged in the same way as the holes drilled in each of the holes. parts 4, 5. The balls 7 are subjected to the action of springs which always tend to push them out, but they are retained in the sleeve by means of a crimp, so that they cannot escape. They therefore significantly exceed the surface of the branch and during the commissioning of this branch, it will be necessary to exert pressure for il'en sinking inside the forks.

The balls will enter the bushings compressing their spring and when they are in front of their respective hole, they will enter them. The part will then be firmly in place and it will be necessary to exert a significant push or pull to move it or remove it from its housing.

One could also arrange the balls on the support 1, and they would then penetrate into cavities of the branch 2.

The device described could, of course, be applied to an instrument comprising two branches of plastic material, such as a speculum, or a single branch, such as a tongue depressor.

In any case, it has the great advantage of eliminating screws or other fixing means which require for their placement or their removal a certain work incompatible with the speed and the ease of assembly and disassembly which are desirable. It suffices, with the device described to operate a push or a pull to fix in good conditions or remove the branch 2. This device also allows to leave, without inconvenience, a slight play between the branch 2 and the fork of the support 1 to avoid any deterioration by friction of the transparent synthetic material against the metal.
