Swivel and sliding head milling machine. We already know. milling machines with smooth and swiveling neck head, allowing the tool holder to be brought to a certain distance from the frame without having to touch the transmissions operating the main shaft. In some of these milling machines, the tool spindle can also be oriented around a center which is generally on the axis of the head. It follows that the tool's attack plane can have a host of directions. However, such cutters have the drawback of not being of sufficient rigidity for certain jobs. In addition, the distance between the spawning table and the tool attack plane is almost limited to. race of the. table itself.
These milling machines require. like the generally used models, special devices allowing to support the head of the milling cutter when the latter is at. limit switch when it leaves the frame.
The object of the present invention is. a milling machine of the same kind, that is to say having a sliding head and. pivoting, but it is characterized in that it comprises a tool-holder spindle orientable around an axis per pendicular to the longitudinal axis of the hollow cylinder, therefore the one around which the. smoothing neck head swivels.
It follows from this arrangement that, compared to the milling machines referred to above, the distance between the table and the tool can be increased or reduced by the distance between the axis of the sliding head and the axis of rotation. of the tool spindle.
It is also possible to give the bearings of the tool-holder spindle a diameter and a mass. sufficient to be able to use strawberries at. high flow rate and high speed without having to fear vibrations affecting the cleanliness of the work performed.
Other advantages of the arrangement characterizing the milling machine according to the invention will be listed in the description of the exemplary embodiment shown in the drawings. In the latter, which represent of the machine only what is necessary for the understanding of the invention. FIG. 1 is a section through a vertical plane passing through the main shaft of the head of the milling machine.
Fig. 2 is a similar section, but seen from the other side of the machine.
Fig. 3 is a partial section along the line III-III of FIG. 1.
Fig. 4- is a partial view, on a smaller scale than the previous ones, of the entire machine and shows the head in one of its positions.
Another position is shown in fig. 5. In fig. 6, the. head of the machine is. supported by straps combined with a counter bearing which is also used in fig. 7, 8 and 9 which respectively show the head of the milling machine in different positions. Fig. 10 is an end view of the head of the milling machine, the tool spindle being in its. highest horizontal position.
Referring to aiLY fig. 1, 2 and 3 which show only parts of the spawning head, what we see of the machine frame is designated by 1. It has, at its upper part, a cylindrical bore 2 of large dimensions, slit longitudinally and in which a hollow cylinder 4 which constitutes the outer casing of the sliding and pivoting head of the milling machine is fitted with high friction. This cylinder can be locked in several positions by means of a single lever 3 (fig. 5 and 6).
In the top of the frame 1 is fixed a bearing 5 in which turns the main shaft 6 of the machine. The latter is attacked by a pulley 7 mine by transmission means not shown connecting this pulley either. to the gearbox, or to the engine depending on the type of actuation adopted.
The main shaft 6 is extended inside the hollow cylinder 4 by a part having keyways 8 along which can slide keys not shown provided inside a pinion 9 meshing with a another pinion 10 wedged on the end of a transmission shaft. 11 which extends from one end to the other of the hollow cylinder 4 in which it is pivoted. The other end of this transmission shaft 11 carries an angle pin 12 in mechanical connection with another angle pinion 13 integral with a shaft 14, pivoted in the end of the hollow cylinder 4 and whose axis geometric is perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the hollow cylinder.
This shaft 14 carries at the end an angle pinion 15 which engmene with another angle pinion 16 integral with the tool-holder spindle 17. The latter rotates in a bearing body 18 having a sole 19 fitted on a surface. plane 20 perpendicular to the geometric axis of the shaft 14. The flange 19 is hand held on this flat surface by bolts 22 (see fig. 7 and 8), the heads of which can slide in grooves 21 concentric with the shaft 14. It follows that the tool-holder spindle 17 can rotate around the geometric axis of the shaft 14 and be adjusted in any position around this shaft.
It is provided on the sole one. graduation 23 (see fig. 5 and 6) which allows the exact inclination of the tool-holder spindle relative to a position in which its geometrical axis is parallel to the geometrical axis of the transmission shaft 11. The bearing body 18 of tool spindle 17 is of a height such that it fits inside the half available in the end of the cylindrical bore 2. In the position shown in FIG. 1, where the cylin drique body 4 has completely entered this bore, the milling cutter which is fixed to the end of the tool-holder spindle is very close to the frame of the machine.
The hollow cylinder has a dimension such that its moment of resistance is a multiple of those which are generally used in the sliding heads of such machines. In the position of the drawing, it is therefore in any case more than sufficient to receive without vibrations the entire reaction of the tool on the workpiece.
When the hollow cylinder is taken out of the bore to adapt the position of the cutter to the work requirements, as is, for example, shown in fig. 6, 7, 8 and 9 of the drawing, the entire head is still held by means of straps 25, of known construction, the slots of which meet on a central pin 26 provided on the outside of a counter-bearing 27 having two bores. Each of these bores is arranged to receive respectively one end of two support arms 28. There are therefore on each side of the transmission shaft 11 the passages and guides necessary for these support arms that can be made. say appear at will in the hollow cylinder - 4.
There are provided, at the end of the head, dies nuts at net 29 (see fig. 4 to. 10) by means of which these support arms can be locked in place.
The distance of these two support arms around & the main axis of the machine being always the same and the central journal 26 being coaxial with the main shaft 6, it follows that, the straps 25 being in place on the central journal 26, in spite of this and without any disassembly, it is possible to turn the whole head, therefore cylinder 4 and all the parts which are integral with it, around the main axis without having to dismantle the slightest thing.
The operation of the hollow cylinder 4 around (the main shaft 6 is effected by the intermediary of a toothed ring 30, fixed on a tubular extension 31 of the hollow cylinder 4. This toothed ring 30 meshes with a driven pinion 32 rotated by a shaft 33 along which it can slide to follow the longitudinal movements of the hollow cylinder 4. The shaft 33 is driven by a graining 34, one of the toothed wheels of which is clamped. end of another shaft 35, pi voted into the frame and in relation by means of two angle gears 36 with a shaft 37, perpendicular to the shaft 35.
A steering wheel 40 is. keyed on this. tree 37; through its intermediary, one can clone the shaft 33 and act on the ring gear 30 to bring the hollow cylinder 4 into any position around the main shaft 6. It should be noted that the adjustment can be done as well on one side as on the other and that one is not bound to a given direction of rotation.
A graduation in degrees 50 (see fig. 9 and 10) is provided on a disc, at the end of the head, which allows to determine very exactly the position of the hollow cylinder, therefore of the entire head relatively. to an initial position in which the shaft 14 is. exactly perpendicular to the table 50 of the milling machine.
Tree 37 is. introduced into a hollow shaft 38 which carries a pinion 39 at one end and a flywheel 41 on the other. This pinion 39, which can be seen. particularly in fi-. 2 and 3, is in relation with it similar pinion 42, fixed to the end of a shaft 43 in mechanical relation, by means of a gear 44, with a screw 45,
parallel to the shaft 43 and symmetrically disposed relative to the main shaft. On this screw 45 runs a threaded lug 46 integral with a sleeve 47 fitted with greasy friction on the tubular extension 31 next to the toothed ring 30. The whole is held in place by means of a ring 48 and screws 49.
By operating the steering wheel 41, the. screw 45 and acts through the ear 46 and. of the. sleeve 47 on the hollow cylinder 4 to give it a longitudinal movement. This can take place regardless of the position of the hollow cylinder around the main shaft 6.
The two ruffles 40 and. 41 can be operated at the same time, so that the longitudinal and pivoting movements can be performed simultaneously.
We see in fi-. 4 the smooth and pivoting neck position as it appears when the hollow cylinder has been rotated by 180 relative to the position it occupies in the film. 1.
In fig. 5, the whole head has been brought somewhat forward without, however, having been necessary to do so. support by means of support arms 28 and shoulder straps 25. Tool spindle 17 is always parallel to the main shaft.
In the. position of fig. 6, the tree of the. tool-holder spindle has been rotated by 90 relative to the position it occupied in fig. 5, the counter-bearing is in place on the end of the support arms 28.
In fig. 7, the tool-holder spindle 17 is vertical. In the fi-. 8, it is at an angle. In fi-. 9, another position is shown. of the tool spindle and the use of shoulder straps in combination with the counter bearing.
In fig. 1.0, the hollow cylinder 4 has been rotated by 1.8011 relative to, la. position of the. fig. 1 and the tool spindle a. also been shot for 90 '.
