Process for the production of a bottle dye. It has been found that a valuable vat dye can be produced if 2 moles of a reactive functional derivative of benzoic acid are reacted with 1 mole of 1,4-diaminoanthraquinone-6-sulfopiperidide.
The new dye dissolves in conc. Sulfuric acid with a yellow color and dyes cotton from an olive vat in red tones, which become much bluer when soapy.
The acid halides, in particular the acid chloride, can advantageously be used as reactive functional derivatives of benzoic acid. The reaction with the aminoanthraquinone component can expediently take place at elevated temperature in high-boiling solvents or diluents such as mono-, di- or trichlorobenzene, nitrobenzene or naphthalene.
The 1,4-diaminoanthraquinone-6-sulfopiperidide used as starting material can be obtained from 1-aminoanthraquinone-6-sulfopiperidide (obtainable from 1-nitroanthraquinone-6-sulfo-ehlorid and piperidine with subsequent reduction of the nitro group) by nitration of the corresponding oxamic acid, cleavage of the Oxalic acid radicals and reducing the nitro group introduced can be obtained.
Example: 26 parts of 1,4-diaminoanthraehinone-6-sulfopiperidide are distributed in 350 parts of dry nitrobenzene and, after addition of 50 parts of benzoylechloride, stirred at 130 to 135 hours for 3 hours. After cooling, the dyestuff which has precipitated out in dark red needles is filtered off with suction, washed with hot chlorobenzene and boiling alcohol and dried.
