Device with removable film magazine from a camera. The present invention relates to a device with a removable film magazine of a camera.
Cameras are already known in which, after a fixed number of exposures have been made and the exposed film has passed through a light-tight film magazine, the film in the magazine can be separated. of the unexposed film remaining in the camera, by a guillotine cutter arranged so as to be actuated automatically during the release of the magazine from the camera to which it is removably applied , a member of the knife serving as a light-tight seal for the film entry slot provided in the magazine.
The device according to the present invention is characterized in that the magazine comprises a housing having a cylindrical wall and opposing end walls, one of which is removable, which support between them a rotating film core, the cylindrical wall having a film entry slit normally closed by a light intercepting member, in that it comprises a guillotine cutting device carried by said cylindrical wall facing the film entry slit, in that the intercepting member the light constitutes one of the knives of the guillotine device, in that one of the end walls of the housing is provided with an opening through which an axis of the camera can enter into engagement. 'in training with the store core,
the light intercepting or gane comprising a projection extending radially with respect to the cylindrical part of the magazine and intended to engage in a guide groove provided in a chamber of the camera intended to receive the magazine, and in that the magazine carries a part of a positive locking device intended to cooperate with another part provided on the camera, the whole arranged in such a way that a rotation in one direction of the magazine in seré serves, on the one hand, to block the latter in the aforesaid chamber and, on the other hand, to cause the opening of the film entry slot provided in said magazine
and that a rotation in the opposite direction unlocks the ma gasin of the camera and simultaneously causes the operation of the guillotine device, to cut the film, and the closing of the magazine slot.
The accompanying drawings show, by way of example, one embodiment of the object of the present invention.

Fig. 8 corresponds to part of FIG. 2, but shows a length of exposed film wound up in the magazine, and fig. 9 is an elevational view, in section, along the line IX-IX of FIG. 6. The camera shown in Fig.1 is for photographing X-ray images formed on a fluorescent screen. This camera is designed to be mounted at the rear end of a dark tunnel with the front wall A of this camera, facing a fluorescent screen located at the front end of the tunnel.
The casing B of the apparatus is closed on one side by a removable cover C (fig. 1 and 3), and comprises a chamber intended to receive a removable film magazine. The housing B of the device is closed on the side opposite the cover C by another removable cover, not shown, and is provided with an internal mechanism plate P, dividing the housing into two chambers, a chamber S (fig. 2 and 3) for a film feed reel R mounted on an axis 81, a film exposure window H, a camera lens 0 and a toothed drum for driving the film,
as well as a chamber H containing a mechanism for advancing and locking the film. The front member 1 of the window H is carried by parallel connecting rods 2, the lower one of which carries an operating button 3 by means of which the member 1 can be moved manually to the open position, in which position the film F coming from of the supply reel R can be placed opposite the window H. The film passes around the drum 4 and between the plates 5, 6 delimiting a passage leading to the chamber D.
After the member 1 has been closed, the film can be advanced through the camera by actuating a lever 9 'projecting through a slot 25' formed in the rear wall of the housing B, this lever having an actuating handle 26 '.
The toothed drum 4 is attached to a shaft 10 'which extends through the mechanism plate P into the chamber II of the mechanism. A transmission, not shown, is provided between the drum 4 and a shaft 15 which is rotatably mounted in the mechanism plate P and extends therethrough into the chamber D, as shown in FIG. 4.
The removable film magazine shown by way of example comprises a housing having a cylindrical wall 8 and one of the opposite end walls 9 and 10. As shown in FIG. 3, the wall 10 is manufactured with the wall 8 and has a circular rim 11 comprising a rebate 12 extending around its internal periphery. A rib 13 (Fig. 1) extends through the recess formed by the wall 10 and the rim 11, and serves as a handle for handling the magazine. The wall 9 is also provided with a flange 17 having a rebate 18 extending around its inner periphery to match a similar rebate provided on the adjacent circular edge 19 of the wall 8, as shown in FIG. 3.
The wall 9 is provided with a central hollow hub 20 connected by ribs 21 to the rim 17, as shown more clearly in FIGS. 3 and 5. The hub 20 surrounds the central orifice 22 formed in the wall 9 for rotatably supporting a film core 16 having a central orifice 24 serrated. The wall 9 is removably mounted on the wall 8 by means of a bayonet seal comprising, as shown in FIG. 5, three elastic plates 25 connected to the wall 8 and bayonet slots 26 formed in the rim 17.
The wall 9 can be removed from the magazine after having been turned in the direction of the arrow indicated in fig. 5, to bring the slots 26 opposite the curved ends 27 of the plates 25.
The cylindrical wall 8 has a film entry slot 7 which, before the magazine is inserted into the chamber D of the camera, is closed by a light intercepting member in the form of a plate. curved 28, which is slidably mounted between the wall 8 and a cover plate 29, connected by means of screws 30 (Figs. 5 and 6) to the marginal projections 31 formed on the wall 8. The cover plate covering 29 comprises a film entry slot 32 which is opposite the slot 7 made in the wall 8.
The light intercepting plate 28 consists of a thin metal blade which has a sharp leading edge so as to constitute a member of a knife of the guillotine type, the other member of which is formed by an edge 33 of the slot 32 provided in the cover plate 29. As shown in fig. 6, the cutting edge 33 forms a slight angle with the axis of the film magazine and, as shown in Figs. 8 and 9, extends inward on the path of the cutting plate and intercepting the light. Edge 33 is made slightly resilient by the formation of notches 34 extending rearwardly in cover plate 29 from the ends of the cutting edge.
Plate 28 has a rectangular protrusion 35 which extends through a slot 36 in cover plate 29. Before inserting the magazine into the camera, plate 28 is in its closed position. , as shown in fig. 5.
Before inserting the magazine, the operator repeatedly actuates the film feed lever 9 'to allow the leading and unsensitized end of the film to be fed from the feed reel. R through the camera in the store D chamber. This unnecessary part of the film is separated from the sensitive film near the inner end of plate 5 (Fig. 2) and removed. The magazine can then be inserted.
To do this, the operator grasps the rib 13 of the wall 10 of the magazine and slides the magazine core 16 on the axis 15 after guiding the projection 35 of the member 28 in a guide groove 36 'shaped. correspondingly (fig. 2 and 4), provided in the store chamber D. At the end of this insertion movement, the serrated edge 24 of the magazine core 16 engages the inner end of a portion of square section of the pin 15 (see fig. 3) whose end rounded 27 is housed in a hollow hub 38 formed in the wall 10 of the store. The magazine, after having been completely inserted, undergoes a partial rotation to block the circular rim 11 in the chamber D.
To accomplish this, spring-loaded tabs 39 (fig. 5) attached to protrusion 31 adjacent to magazine wall 1.0, engage behind pegs 40 protruding radially inward from the cylindrical wall. of room D of the store. This partial rotation of the magazine in chamber D has the effect of opening the film entry slits 7 and 32. This occurs thanks to the movements of the cylindrical wall 8 and of the plate 29 relative to the member 28. intercepting the light which remains fixed as a result of the engagement of the projection 35 in the guide groove 36 '.
When actuating the film feed lever 9 ', the film core 16 is rotated by the axis 15 and simultaneously the film F is fed through the slots 32 and 7 into the film magazine. . The magazine has internally a pair of elastic fingers or blades 41 fixed, at their inner ends, to the wall 8 of the magazine, near the slot 7. These blades 41 guide the film F entering towards the core 16 which is provided, on its outer surface, of several raised teeth 42, intended to engage with marginal perforations of the film which is thus automatically connected to the driven receiving core 16 of the magazine.
To prevent the film from rolling up on itself and missing the connection with the core, another pair of elastic blades 43 is provided in the film magazine below the blades 41, and these elastic blades 43 are fixed. at their ends inside the wall 8. The blades 43 start from a place close to the edge 45 of the slot 7 and extend, like the blades 41, towards the core 16. The curved ends 46 of the blades 41 tend to overlap. conform by their natural elasticity to the shape of the core, so as to form, when the magazine is empty, a narrow film passage along which the leading end of the film is guided towards the receiving core 16.
As the diameter of the film wound on the core 16 increases, the blades 41 and 43, which only engage with the marginal edges of the film, flex outwards and assume the positions shown in FIG. 8.
The removable magazine is provided such that it is not necessary to wait until all of the film from the supply spool R is exposed to remove a shorter length of exposed film. After the required number of exposures have been made and all of the exposed wire has been brought into the film magazine, the latter can be removed from room D. Prior to this removal, the film in the magazine is separated from the film store. rest of the film in the camera. This is done by turning the magazine counterclockwise from mark C to mark 0 (fig. 1) to unlock the magazine from chamber D.
During such a partial rotation of the magazine and the consequent movement of the wall 8 and of the cover 29 relative to the member 28, a finger 47 (FIG. 6) or projection extending towards the front of this member s 'In pledge welds adjacent edge of cutting edge 33 and flexes it slightly upward. When, therefore, the two sharp edges cooperate to cut the film, they do not abut against each other, but due to the elasticity of the cutting edge 33, they come into intimate contact with one another. with the other, thus producing a clean cut of the rope. Such a cut is made thanks to the inclination of the cutting edge 33, as indicated in FIG. 6.
When the magazine has been turned to position 0 (fig. 1), the member 28 occupies its closed position and intercepts the light, as shown in fig. 5. The magazine can then be removed from the chamber D. The removed magazine can be taken into an obscure chamber to remove the wall 9 so as to have access to the exposed film to develop it.
However, it is not necessary for the operator to wait for the magazine to be unloaded before making subsequent exposures on the film remaining in the camera since in practice at least two films of film are provided so that as soon as one magazine is removed from the camera, another can be immediately inserted in its place. If a large number of exposures are to be made with the camera requiring the use of all of the film from the R supply reel, the film holder can be replaced with a normal take up reel of approx. 30 meters (100 feet) analogous to the R coil, which can be threaded on the axis 15 in the magazine chamber D.
After the leading end of the film has been attached to this normal reel, by hand in the usual manner, the magazine chamber D can be closed by a separate cover similar to the wall 10 of the film magazine.
Although a pair of elastic blades 41 have been provided in the described example of the magazine to guide the film towards the rotating receiving core, it will be understood that a single elastic member, of substantially the same width as the film, can be used, the end of such a member being provided with a median notch, so that the film can be touched only on its edges, thus avoiding any damage to the film.
