Circuit for fluorescent tubes with series choke. When operating fluorescent tubes, a choke coil is connected in series with the discharge path. This is used to adapt the mains voltage to the operating voltage of the tube and to stabilize the discharge. In addition, a sudden interruption of the choke coil circuit creates an overvoltage which causes the fluorescent tube to ignite.
Up to now, switching reactors of this type have been dimensioned in such a way that their inductivity and thus also their magnetic resistance has practically the same value during the heating-up period as in continuous operation when the fluorescent tube is lit. Since the current when heating is much greater than when the fluorescent tube is lit, such throttles must be carried out with a relatively large air gap, which requires a greater amount of iron and copper and leads to correspondingly high costs.
According to the present invention, the series choke is dimensioned so that in normal operation its magnetic resistance was at most 60l of the magnetic resistance value during heating, i.e. the choke is optimal for the conditions that exist when the fluorescent tube is lit. designed. This then generally has the consequence that during the heating up due to the elimination of the voltage drop on the fluorescent tube, a significantly larger current and thus a higher saturation occurs than you could allow it to last.
The higher saturation corresponds to a lower relative permeability and thus a correspondingly higher magnetic resistance. However, if one ensures that overloading of the heating coils during heating is avoided either through timely interruption or upstream connection of a further impedance upstream of the choke, a choke designed in this way can be used. a safe operation can be guaranteed, with the advantage of significantly lower costs. Chokes for the invention purpose can both with and without a. Air gap of the order of 1 mm. and run less.
In the case of chokes with an air gap, it is useful to dimension them so that in normal operation the magnetic resistance of the iron of the throttle sel is at most 1 /, the magnetic resistance of the air gap, while the magnetic resistance of the iron of the throttle is at least when heating is the same as the magnetic resistance of the air gap. Around. To ensure the best possible utilization in normal operation, it is advisable to give the induction in the choke at least a value of 7000 Gauss.
If the heating current is to remain in the order of magnitude of the usual values, it is expedient to connect an impedance upstream of the choke during heating, by means of which the heating current is limited to a predetermined value. Since this impedance is only switched on for a short time, it can have very small dimensions. A resistor, a small air or iron throttle or a capacitor can serve as the impedance.
If you used a resistance as the impedance, it can be useful to ensure the ignition, this resistance un indirectly before the opening of the ignition circuit to at least partially bridge to at least partially suppress the attenuation caused by it. The easiest way to bypass it is to use the switch for the ignition itself.
As an additional safety measure, it may be advantageous to switch a fuse to protect the heating coil in series with the throttle, especially when a reduction in the heating current is not provided by an upstream impedance.
The drawing shows an example of an embodiment of the circuit according to the invention with a series impedance. It means: 1 the fluorescent tube; 2 and 3 their heating coils; 4 a switch that z.
B. can be operated by bimetal strips, hot wire or by magne tables pulling force; 5 is a bypass switch coupled to switch 4; 6 the series impedance of the choke 7; 8 the dining point. When switched on, the heating current flows from the feed point 8 via the throttle 7, the series impedance 6, the heating coil 2, the switch 4, the heating coil 3 and back to the feed point B.
The choke 7 is overloaded to a certain extent and has a higher magnetic resistance and therefore also a lower inductance than in normal operation when the fluorescent tube 1 is lit. Because the impedance 6 is connected in series with the choke 7, However, the Anheizstroni on a predetermined, for the present; Conditions brought favorable value.
If the coils 2 and 3 are sufficiently heated, the switch 4 is opened, the bridging switch 5 being closed at the latest at the same time, suitably shortly beforehand. The interruption of the switch 4 creates an overvoltage which causes the ignition of the fluorescent tube. The choke 7 now works under the most favorable conditions for it, while the series impedance is bridged and therefore currentless.
It can thus be seen that this impedance 6 is only switched on for a very short time, generally a fraction of a second, and can accordingly be made small. The throttle 7 is only overloaded for a short time and can therefore be measured optimally for continuous operation. The effort for the impedance 6 and the additional contact 5 on the switch 4 is only a fraction of the additional costs that arise for a choke coil with con stant inductance. Since in general a choke is necessary for each fluorescent tube, this circuit achieves a substantial saving.
