Process for the production of acrylic acid amide. The present invention is directed to the production of acrylic acid amide.
According to the present invention, acrylic acid amide is produced by treating acrylonitrile with sulfuric acid and water, by neutralizing the resulting mixture, and by isolating the acrylic acid amide from this mixture.
When carrying out the process, the nitrile can either be mixed with sulfuric acid. which contains the required amount of water can be treated, or the nitrile can be mixed with concentrated acid and water can be added subsequently. In both cases, the reaction mixture is preferably at a temperature which is in the range of.
Loves 20 to 150 C. This part of the process can be carried out on a continuous basis. be carried out in such a way that the reaction product is continuously withdrawn from the reaction vessel, while a cold mixture of acrylonitrile, sulfuric acid and water is added continuously at practically the same rate to the heated reaction mixture.
Alkaline agents which can be used for the neutralization reaction are z. B. ammonia, ammonium carbonate, alkali metal and alkaline earth metal-hydroxides and carbonates.
After the neutralization of the reaction mixture, the acrylic acid amide. be isolated by extraction with a solvent, the solvent being e.g. B. ether, acetone or a low .molecular alcohol such as methanol, Iaoprop anol and the like used. can be. If such a neutralizing agent, such as.
B. calcium carbonate, which forms a water-insoluble sulfate, is used, the isolation of the acrylic acid amide can be carried out by filtering off the sulfate salt and evaporating the aqueous solution under reduced pressure.
Preferably, an antipolymerization: mit.tel, such as. B .. copper, iron or stainless steel, added to the reaction mixture to prevent the polymerization of the acrylic acid amide.
The following examples, in which parts are parts by weight, illustrate the invention. Example 1: 58 parts of aryl nitrile were added dropwise to 116 parts of 84.5% i, -; er sulfuric acid in the course of 50 minutes, wel:
c'he contained 0.2 part of copper powder and was located at 10.0 ° C. in a CT cell equipped with a stirrer and reflux condenser. After the addition of the nitrile, the mixture was heated at 100 ° C. for 45 minutes, then to about. 6 (> C cooled and poured vigorously stirred cold io.opropanol into 5-00 parts. Ammonia was poured into.
the cold alcoholic solution is introduced until it is weakly alkaline @var. The ammonium sulfate precipitate was removed by filtration and the filter cake was washed twice with 100 parts of isopropanol. The combined filtrate and washing liquids were reduced under reduced pressure (20-30 mm)
evaporated to dryness. The remaining acrylic acid amide was obtained in a yield of 95%, based on the aoryl nitrile used.
The product was recrystallized from benzene, white, flaky acrylic acid amide of high purity and a melting point of 84-85 ° C. being obtained.
Example 2: -The same procedure was used as in Example 1, using 53 parts of acrylonitrile, 14 parts of 87.5% sulfuric acid and 0.5 part of copper powder. 64 parts (90% yield) of acrylic acid amide were obtained.
Example 3: 50.3 parts of 97.5% strength sulfuric acid were admixed with 2.6.5 parts of aeryl nitrile with stirring. It would be cooled in an ice bath as there was a notable evolution of heat.
0 C set. It. a non-viscous liquid resulted. It became viscous on standing overnight. 18 parts of water was added while cooling with ice. The temperature rose to 60 ° C. 53 parts of sodium carbonate in 36 parts of water were added.
400 parts of acetone were then added and the precipitated salt was filtered off. Acetone and water were. By. Evaporation removed under reduced pressure.
The solid residue was recrystallized from benzene. 29 parts (81.3% yield) of acrylic acid amide with a melting point of 815 ° C. were obtained. Example 53 parts of acrylonitrile were added dropwise in the course of 50 minutes to 116 parts of 84.5% strength sulfuric acid, which contained 0.
Containing 2 parts of copper powder and was in a vessel equipped with a stirrer and reflux condenser at 100 ° C., added. After the addition of the nitrile, the mixture was heated for 45 minutes at about 60 ° C., then cooled and added to a vigorously stirred, cold suspension of 100 parts of calcium carbonate in 500 parts of water.
The precipitated calcium sulfate was removed by filtration and the filter cake was washed twice with 10.0 parts of water. The combined filtrate and washing liquids were evaporated to dryness under reduced pressure (2.0-30 mm). There were 64 parts A.cryl, säureami, d, which has a trace of acrylic = acid and; contained a small amount of a polymer.
The present invention represents a simple and economical process for the production of acrylic acid amide of high purity in good yield.
