à queue de maintien (fig. 1 à 4), 1 dé signe la tige -de l'aiguille, 2 le crochet, 3 la mortaise ou rainure pratiquée -dans le ,corps .de l'aiguille et .dans, laquelle peut s'escamo ter, totalement ou partiellement, la palette proprement dite 4 munie de sa, queue de maintien 6, 5 étant l'axe autour duquel oscille cet ensemble pivotant;
-dimensions, conserve les mêmes ,dimensions pour continuer à présenter la même forme -de son contour, tandis, qu'au contraire son épaisseur est ré duite, -de moitié par exemple;
Pivoting paddle for mending needle. We know needles. intended for the re-mesh of stockings. and other knitted articles, and which comprise a body and a pivoting paddle provided with a retaining tail which connects with the body, 9.a paddle and extends beyond the beak, this tail which favors the 'opening of the pallet being held by the mesh in the retracted position, when.
-the re-assembly of the. flange.
In. this kind of needles, the beak of the pallet, extended by the retaining tail, is arranged so as to overflow on the upper contour of the stem of the needle during the retreat of the latter, in order to be able to hook the stitch which, moving on the needle, keeps the pallet open by means of the tail with which it is provided until the latter, released by the stitch, tends to rise again, under the 'inertia effect of its mass, to exit the needle rod,
at the same time that it contributes, by this effect of inertia, and when the stitch has reached the nose of the pallet, to close the pallet on the hook of the needle, facilitating the folding back.
If this kind of needle latch with shank makes it possible to compete practically with needles with sliding latch, by working at high speeds (of the order of (2,500 to 3,000 stitches.
@ at the -minute), this is undoubtedly due to the presence of the tail added as an extension of the paddle itself - tail whose length and shape - of its outline are necessarily provided in order to allow the action of the mesh over a sufficient length, in order to prevent for a certain period of time the tail -de coming out of the needle and thus the flange from coming into engagement with the spout of the so-called pro prem-ent pallet.
Now, although it seems to have been recognized until now that these dimensions and this shape of the contour given to the tail are absolutely necessary. correct operation of the pallet at the high speeds required,
it nevertheless follows that if the mass of material of which this additional element added to the pallet proper is constituted also contributes to obtaining this good operation by giving it the effect of its own inertia for ensure the effective sudden closing and opening, this mass, the importance of which depends on the dimensions and the shape of the contour essential to the construction of the tail,
is inadvertently disproportionate to the result to be achieved, in the sense that it is greatly in excess, and that this excess turns out to be harmful, given that following numerous observations and controls, the holder recognized that this excess mass is the cause of certain serious inconveniences.
-of which, inter alia, this cause, by an excessively brutal impact of the nose of the pallet itself against the point of the hook -of the needle,. on each closure, the rapid deformation, by wear, of said point and of said nozzle, which are brought to present quickly -sharp edges, cutting the wire -of the article subjected to remeshing, and also the disadvantage,
to cause, when -the opening of the whole voting pi folded brutally to: the inside -of the rod -of the needle, the rebound of the tail coming into abutment -in the bottom of the correct housing, rebound causing in turn the untimely closing of the pallet,
which thus renders the operation of the needle insecure and irregular, thereby preventing the obtaining of desirable operating speeds.
Having succeeded in. to detect the determining cause of the above-exposed drawbacks, the owner thought that it should suffice -to reduce the importance of this mass -of constituent material -of the holding tail added to the body of the pallet of this kind of:
re-stitching needle, in order to keep only the portion just sufficient to be able to cause the effect of inertia -of the pivoting member in order to initiate and, consequently, facilitate .the folding-down movements of the the pallet both for its closing and for its opening at each impulse.
However, difficulties arose in solving the problem posed, since any reduction in this mass of the tail by modifications in the dimensions,
and in the shape of the contour of this additional appendage added to the body of the pallet resulted in an absolutely faulty operation of the to re-meshing needle and incompatible with the speeds required to enable it to compete advantageously smooth neck latch needles.
Nevertheless., After. Tests, the holder has succeeded in achieving the combination of a pallet body and a tail, a combination according to which, without changing anything in the length of the pallet or in.
the shape of its contour essential for the proper functioning, the mass of matter necessary for its constitution is reduced in importance - in such a way that it attains just that sufficient to allow it to provoke and facilitate, by the inertia effect,
the initiation of the movements -of folding down of the pallet with a view to its opening and its closing at each impulse given to the needle during the remeshing work.
This stated, the invention relates to a pivoting pallet for a re-meshing needle, characterized by a body and a holding tail, the weight of said tail being reduced with respect to the weight that a solid tail would present. length and the same shape,
having the same thickness as the body of the pallet and being made of the same material as this body, all so that the.
mass of this tail is just sufficient to allow, by the 4-th effect its inertia, to clia'qne impulse given to the needle, -to promote, by priming, the, lifting and lowering movement of the pallet.
Various forms of exéoution -of the pivoting pallet forming the subject of the invention are shown schematically, by way of example and on an enlarged scale, in the accompanying drawing, in lequdl:
Fig. 1 is an elevational view of a usual guille. in remeshing with a retaining tail paddle, said hand tail paddle being shown in the retracted position.
Fig. 2 @ is a similar view, the tail pallet, retaining being shown in the closing position of the hook.
Fig. 3 is an elevation view @de, the hand-tailed pallet -of fig. 1 and 2, shown alone, fig. 4 being a plan view from above. F.g. 5, 7. 9 and 11, on the one hand, and 6, 8, 10 and 12,. On the other: part, are:
views, respectively in elevation and in plan from above, of various preferred embodiments of the pivoting pallet which is the subject of the invention.
In these figures, and in what oncerne the known kind U'aiguilles à. re-mesh in pa lettes:
with retaining shank (fig. 1 to 4), 1 die sign the shank -of the needle, 2 the hook, 3 the mortise or groove made -in the body .of the needle and .in, which can s 'retract, totally or partially, the actual pallet 4 provided with its, retaining tail 6, 5 being the axis around which this pivoting assembly oscillates;
11 is the nose of the pallet which may or may not overlap the upper con tour of the needle.
As regards the pivoting pallet forming the subject of the invention, the first embodiment shown in FIGS. 5 and 6 is characterized in that the mass @de material of which the shank 6 'is made, combined with the body 4 with spout 11 which remains unchanged in its shape and shape.
-dimensions, keep the same, dimensions to continue to present the same shape -of its outline, while, on the contrary, its thickness is reduced, -by half for example;
this reduction of. the thickness of the tail can be uniform and total, as shown at 6 'in fig. 5 and 6, or partial, as shown at 6 "in Figs. 7 and 8, or -still gradually decreasing starting from body 4.
The means for achieving this first embodiment can be numerous; for example, when the holding shank 6 'has come from manufacture with the body, 4, it will suffice, to obtain the reduction of the thickness of the shank 6', to work on one side or both sides of said shank 6 ', with a file or with a grinding wheel.
We can also report, by welding, on the body 4, a tail 6 'having the same characteristics as above, concerning its -dimensions in thickness.
As regards the second embodiment, shown in FIGS. 9 and 10, it is characterized in that, without modifying anything in terms of dimensions. n2 in the shape of the round fa tail 6 with which the body 4 is provided, the harmful excess of the mass of material constituting it is. removed by making openings 7.
Finally, as regards the third form of execution: ion shown in FIGS. 11 and 12, the holding shank, attached to the body 4, by welding for example, is made up of a plate 12 made of a metal or alloy of lower half than that of the body 4, having the same dimensions and the same outline shape as the.
usual tail con naked, this plate being able, if necessary, to include. .Characteristics, combined or not, such as those shown in Figures 5 and 6, 7 and 8,9 and 10.
