Cooling device for internal combustion engines. The invention relates to a Kühleinrich device for internal combustion engines, in particular automobile engines, with a fan driven by an electric motor.
It is known that it can have very detrimental consequences for an internal combustion engine if it is forced to perform a large amount of work when it is cold. This can happen especially in winter. There have therefore already been seen thermostats that monitor the cooling water temperature. -Such thermostats consist in large numbers of an expansion body, wel cher a low-boiling liquid, z. B. Ethyläthe, r, contains. At higher temperatures, the vapor pressure also rises, which results in a change in the shape of the expansion body.
In the inventive Kühleinrich device, a thermostat responding to the temperature of the cooling water is provided. that controls the fan.
In the drawing, a Ausführungsbei game of the subject invention is shown schematically. 1 shows a schematic side view of an internal combustion engine with the device according to the invention and electrical connections, and FIG. 2 shows a circuit diagram for FIG. 1.
In Fig. 1, 1 is an engine block of an automobile viewed from the left side. The water jacket of this engine block is connected via movable pipe connections 2 or with a cooling unit 4. Behind the same a driven by a DC motor 5 fan 6 is easily seen. In the upper pipe connection 2, a thermostat 7 is arranged such that its temperature-sensitive sensor protrudes into the pipe and is exposed to the cooling water temperature there.
Three electrical lines lead into the switch head of the thermostat 7, of which the line 8 establishes a connection to the positive pole 9 of an accumulator battery 10, the negative pole 11 of which is connected to ground 12 as usual. A line 13 leads from the thermostat head to a regulating device 14 and in this via a resistor 15 to the DC motor 5. Another line 16 leads from the thermostat head to a relay 17 in the regulating device 14. A relay contact 18 belonging to the relay 17 is switched that with it the resistor 15 short-circuited who can.
The resistor 15 is adjustable and so with. for the sake of simplicity, for the sake of simplicity, further not shown foot accelerator 'connected that its resistance value is reduced the more the gas is given.
The charging of the accumulator battery 10 takes place in the usual way by a light machine (dynamo) 20 provided with a charging switch 19. For the sake of completeness, FIG. 1 also shows:
a starter 21, which can be operated via a starter switch 22, an ammeter 23 for monitoring the battery load, an ignition switch 24 for switching on the ignition coil and a light switch 25 for headlights, dimming, side lamps and taillights.
The thermostat 7 is now designed so that it has two switches 71 and 72 in its apparatus head, of which the switch 71 allows the line 8 to be connected to the resistor 15 and the switch 72 allows the line 8 to be connected to the relay 17. With the rise Cooling water temperature, switch 71 is always closed first and switch 72 only afterwards. The response temperatures of both switches can be set independently of one another. Any of the known systems can be used as the thermostat.
In Fig. 2 is. 1 ge associated circuit diagram has been shown, in which all items with the same reference numerals, as in Fig. 1 were seen ver. A special list and explanation of this figure is therefore unnecessary.
The operation of the described device is as follows: If the ignition switch 24 is closed when the engine is cold and the motor is started with the starter 21 by briefly pressing the starter switch 22 without the fan 6 starting to rotate, it warms up the cooling water very quickly.
The inactivity of the fan 6 is explained by the fact that both thermostat switches 71 and 72 are open when the engine is cold, so that the DC motor 5 receives no voltage.
The rapid heating of the cooling water has the consequence that the thermostat switch 71 closes when a certain cooling water temperature is reached, whereby the direct current motor 5 receives voltage via the lines 8 and 13 and via the resistor 15 and the fan 6 begins to rotate . The resistor 15 is now mechanically coupled to the foot accelerator pedal in such a way that when the accelerator is accelerated more and more resistance is switched off from the circuit of the direct current motor 5.
From this it can be seen that the fan also rotates faster when the combustion engine is running faster, which means that the effect of the fan: rs 6 adapts itself to the needs of the combustion engine. If the cooling water temperature increases e.g.
If, for example, the internal combustion engine is continuously subjected to a maximum load above a certain maximum limit, the second thermostat switch 72 also responds, whereby the relay 17 receives voltage, attracts its armature and the relay contact 18 closes. As a result, the resistor 15 or the still effective partial amount of this resistor is short-circuited and the DC motor 5 it holds the full battery voltage and rotates from now on at maximum speed.
This also achieves the maximum cooling effect of the fan 6.
As soon as the temperature of the cooling water 7u begins to decrease, which z. B. can occur due to low stress on the internal combustion engine, the contact 72 of the thermostat 7 opens.
The relay 17 is de-energized and the contact 18 opens again, where the resistor 15, depending on the position of the foot accelerator pedal, is switched back into the circuit of the direct current motor 5, so that this or the fan 6, accordingly the now less geren amount of heat to be dissipated rotates more slowly.
The design of internal combustion engines that is common today remains unchanged when using the new cooling system. Instead of the belt-driven fan, there is a fan blade driven by an electric motor. The additional load on the accumulator battery can easily be compensated for by increased charging by the alternator.
