Electrical actuation device used in particular for actuating auxiliary aircraft components. The present invention relates to an electric actuation device such as those intended primarily for use in airplanes as a motor for actuating cooling fins, bomb trap or other parts or as a servomotor. for the actuation of rudder and elevator or other control surfaces.
The device according to the invention is charac terized in that it comprises an electric motor. a movable control member,. Elrngrenages: intercalated reduction. between the motor and the control member to drive this member from the engine, a limiter device to interrupt the drive of the control member after a predetermined path thereof, and means for reverse the direction of travel of said organ.
The appended drawing represents, by way of example, several embodiments of the device forming the subject of the present invention.

ri ig. 12 is a view. partially in section of the part of a jack with switches shown in fig. 9 and 10.
Fig. 13, 14 and 15 are perspective views of another embodiment.
The first actuating device comprises a housing 1 containing an electric motor 2 (which will be described later) with an electromagnetic brake, reduction gears 3 of the epicyclic or other type, arranged coaxially with respect to the drive shaft 28 of said motor, and a casing 4 containing.
a member coaxial with the motor and control 5 constituted by a plunger piston movable as a whole, that is to say as a whole in the space at the end. against similar organs oscillating around a frozen point for example. The outer end of this piston is intended to be connected directly or indirectly to the member to be controlled.
A shaft 6, driven by the motor 2 via reduction gears 3, is housed inside the tubular body of @co: mmande 5. The shaft 6 has helical grooves at its periphery. 7 constituting a screw with multiple threads and which serve as raceways for balls. 8 frictionally engaging the inner surface of the controller 5.
The balls 8, the diameter of which is significantly smaller than the width of the groove, are kept spaced apart by a tubular cage (not shown), provided with openings. through which the balls 8 protrude.
An electromagnetic coupling 11, the, with claws 13, is interposed between the reduction gears 3 and the shaft 6, the drive element 11 being held normally in engagement with the element 12 by the action of a solenoid 14, permanently energized by current, in such a way that, when the motor is switched off, the engagement of the claws 13 is maintained, thus preventing any further unwanted movement of the control member 5.
A spring 15 is provided to release the claws 13 and, consequently, to suppress the drive of the control member when. a power failure. The solenoid 14 is then de-energized and the shaft 6 can, in this case, rotate freely around its geometric axis without the electric motor and its. associated reduction gears are rotated.
The solenoid 14 is rotatably mounted on an extension 17 of the shaft 6, inside the coupling element 11 whose end opposite to that having the claws 13, carries planetary gears 16. Although that normally the solenoid 14 and the extension 17 rotate together, the coupling element 12 having a drive connection with the said extension 17, the claws 13 are shown, disengaged, that is to say -in the position they take when no current passes through the solé nide.
The extension 17 has a flange 18 and is supported by a bearing 19 which is held in position in the casing 4, a nut 20 serving to block the shaft relative to the bearing 19. The drive connection, between the 'element 12 and the extension 17 is produced by the engagement of teeth: 21 provided on the flange 18, with notches formed in the element. 12.
The grooves 7 formed in the shaft 6 have a pitch such that the axial pressure applied to the control member 5 (which is prevented from rotating by keys 5 ', according to FIG. 2), when the elements 11 and 12 of the coupling are released, in the event of a power failure for example, causes the rotation of the shaft 6. Therefore, the control surface or another part of an aircraft, which should be operated by the device described if there was current, can be moved manually by the organs. usual ordering of the aircraft.
The tubular casing 4 containing the axially movable control organ 5 may be provided with its. ends of shock absorbers 22, for example of synthetic rubber, to limit the movement of the control unit 5 and to absorb shocks when the solenoid 14 is triggered.
Although, in the device described, the motor, the reduction gears and the actuator are arranged coaxially in a housing, the motor and, if desired, the reduction gears can be mounted set back from the housing. axis of the control member, so as to provide a device that can be used in,
cases where it is not possible to accommodate an aetération device of a length such as that required by the .coaxial arrangement of the constituent parts.
The motor is preferably a reversible motor. If it is a direct current motor, it can be of the series or composite type. In the case of a series motor, preferably two field winding coils are provided on the poles; these windings .., then have two input conductors, the output conductors being common. to one of the: switching brushes. If the motor is an AC motor, it can be of any suitable type.
The current supply to the solenoid 14 is effected by a brush (not shown) rubbing on a slip ring 23. The fixed solenoid could also be provided with the dragging being done through the center thereof.
Although it is preferable to use: reduction gears - of the epicyclic type: ideal, any other type of gears suitable for providing the reduction ratio and: the necessary axial force could be provided. view to actuate a control surface or other relatively heavy part.
To ensure that the device described cannot exert a force exceeding a predetermined value, a release mechanism is provided, acting when the engine torque is overloaded. In the embodiment shown, this mechanism: consists of a brake applied to a sleeve 24, toothed internally, and receiving the reduction gears 3. This brake comprises a friction band 25 surrounding the sleeve 24 and fixed to the housing 1, this strip 25 can be tightened more or less. strongly by means of a screw 25 'in order to: adjust the braking for a determined load, beyond which the band 25 slides on the sleeve 24.
An electromagnetic brake can be fitted to the motor 2 to prevent the armature and the control member from rotating under the effect of a load.
This brake may also have the function of rapidly stopping the engine when one of the limit switches acts. It comprises windings which are interconnected with the motor windings in such a way that this brake acts when the motor is stopped and is released when the motor starts. Such a brake is generally designated at 26 in FIG. 1 and -is shown in more detail in FIGS. 4 and 5.
The outer end of the shaft 28 of the armature 27 of the motor is provided with a braking disc 29 cooperating with a non-rotating friction disc 30, mounted so: to slide on said axis 28 and pushed towards the engaged position by the spring 31.
This friction disc 30 also constitutes an armature of a winding electromagnet 32 which is interconnected with the windings of the motor, so that when the motor starts, the current energizes the winding 32. and the friction disc 30 is moved away from the rotating disc 29 by attraction. Dowels 33 (fig. 5) protrude from the fixed armature of the electromagnet and engage:
in notches 34 formed in the periphery: of the disc, which is thus prevented from rotating. Instead of the brake described, one could be provided to immobilize a: rotary member of the gear train, for example the shaft 6, and at the same time to disconnect: this gear train, motor swimming. C: ett-ç # arrangement would consist of a brake: combined with a: clutch.
In each of the cases provided, the brake can be controlled by limit switches such as that shown in FIGS. 9 and 10. It may be mentioned: that, in the case of an electromagnet-actuated brake, the coil: of: the latter is preferably with double winding, one of which is connected in series and the to be in parallel or in shunt with the motor armature. Any suitable type of brake could, however, be used, for example a brake actuated by centrifugal force.
In another variant, a braking force could be obtained by momentarily reversing the operation of the motor.
The control member 5 must be able to move only within predetermined limits and the transmission of the force must be interrupted when each of these limits: is reached. This result is obtained by two limit switches: associated with the control member 5. Such limit switches are generally indicated at 35 in FIGS. 1, 11 and 12. One of these switches is provided towards each end of the course @de the control member 5 and is actuated by a stop 36 integral with said control member.
The limit switch shown in fig. 6 and 7 comprises a trigger 37 pivoted at 38 and intended to come into engagement with the stop 36. This trigger 37, when it is bottom abutment towards the right in FIG. 7, pulls on a piston 39 which, normally, is pushed to the left by a spring 40, and triggers a toggle mechanism comprising trestles 41,
so that these spacers take an opposite inclined position, a position in which the movable contacts 42 are spaced from the fixed -contacts 43.
When the action on the trigger 37 ceases by the reverse operation of the control member 5, then the reverse operation of the motor 2, the spring 40 relaxes and: moves the switch to the position shown in fig. 7 in which the contacts 42, 43 are closed.
Figs. 9 and 10 represent a variant of a limit switch, in which the equivalent contacts 42 ', 43' are carried by blades 44, 45, the first of which protrudes connects so as to be able to be moved by the stop 36 in view to separate contacts. Fig. 12 shows the application of two limit switches of the type just described.
Fig. 8 shows another variant of a limiter switch intended to be connected so as to reverse them. connections of motor 2 at each end of the path of the controller 5.
This limit switch comprises an insulated rocking lever 47, comprising opposing elastic blades 48, '48 ', each carrying a pair of contacts 49, 49'. Each pair of contacts can move towards an upper fixed contact 50 or 50 'and a lower contact 51 or 51'.
The blades 48, 48 'are, on the one hand, permanently connected to terminals 53, 53', by hairpin springs 52 and, on the other hand, to the contacts 50 and 51 'in one of the positions. of the switch and, in the other position, to contacts 51 and 50 'respectively.
The fixed contacts 50, 50 ', 51 and 51' are respectively connected to the conductors 54, 54 ', 55, 55'. The rocking lever 47 can be moved in each of its positions by a bar 56 extending through a slot 57 in the housing 58 of the switch and the lower end of which engages in a sliding member. 59 placed between the bottom lever culant 47 and a leaf spring 60 carried by the sliding member 59.
This member 59 is provided with two shock absorbers 61 intended to engage with the stop 36 at each end of the path of the control member 5. 62 denotes a fixed stop limiting the path of the slide 59.
When the control member 5 reaches an end position, the limit switch is activated so as to act resiliently to reverse connections of the electric motor 2. Therefore, if the pilot or the like The operator actuates the main control switch 46 to cut off the electric current to the motor, the control unit 5 having reached its terminal position, it suffices that he actuates this switch again to return the motor to the rear. control unit.
This avoids a confusion which can occur when the main control switch 46 with shifting is not in one of the extreme positions and when the operator does not know with certainty which of the two extreme positions. the control member 5 was placed when he wanted to reverse his movement. In the embodiment of the device shown in FIGS. 13, 14 and 15, the shaft 6 is provided with a screw thread engaging in.
a threaded part of the organ, of, control 5.
The operation of the device described is as follows: FIG. 11 shows that by closing the main switch 46 to the right or to the left, the armature motor 27 is rotated in one direction or the other. The motor drives shaft 6 via reduction gears 3 and electromagnetic coupling 11, 12.
The helical grooves of the shaft 6 cause the axial displacement of the balls 8 which, in turn, axially drive the control member 5.
The stroke of the control member 5 is limited by the stop 36 fixed to it and which opens the corresponding limit switch 35. The current is then interrupted and the motor stops.
Dan :, the embodiment shown in fi.-. 13, 14 and 15, the control member 5 is driven by the threaded shaft 6 cooperating with a nut integral with: said member and on which the stop 36 is fixed. This nut has a notch intended to engage on the key 5 ', so as to prevent it from turning.
The actuating device described can be made in various sizes: depending on the force to be exerted, the size of the motor can vary correspondingly, but .on: used: preferably standard type motors, operating with a current 24 volts in direct current, for example, as is the case in aviation for the actuation of auxiliary devices.
