Quellungsmittel entfernt werden, was z.
Process for converting substances containing at least one thermoplastic material into finely divided products suitable for pressing.
According to known processes, thermoplastic materials such as cellulose derivatives, polymerisation products, polycondensation products etc. are converted into granular or powdery products such as B. powder or injection molding powder, transferred, if necessary, the thermoplastic starting materials in the presence of additives such as plasticizers, fillers and the like. Treated in stirring devices with solvents or swelling agents that have a loosening capacity for these substances in the warmth, respectively in the cold. but not at room temperature.
In this way, homogeneous masses in the heat are obtained, e.g. B. highly concentrated solutions that solidify to gelatinous masses on cooling. From these gelatinous masses, the solvents or Swelling agents are removed, which z. B. by treating them with hot rollers or by spraying them through nozzles under pressure. When carrying out this process, it is recommended that a sufficient amount of solvents BEZW.
To use swelling agents in which the plasticizers present and possibly other additives are readily soluble in the heat, so that the most homogeneous masses possible are obtained in which the starting materials are present in an even distribution. The use of larger amounts of solvents respectively. However, swelling agents again have the disadvantage that removing them from the cooled intermediate product is associated with great difficulty.
The present invention relates to a method for converting substances containing at least one thermoplastic material into finely divided products suitable for pressing by treating them with an organic liquid which only dissolves well when heated.
genes, with thermosetting in the heat, liberation of the homogeneous mass obtained in this way from the organic liquid and conversion into granular to powdery form, which is characterized by the fact that the homogeneous mass is characterized by drying off with mixing of a portion of the organic liquid used freed, the mass is then subjected to rapid cooling with thorough mixing, and the granular to powdery material obtained is freed from the remainder of the organic liquid. The organic liquid can comprise either a solvent or a swelling agent or a mixture of these two.
By the method according to the present invention, the transfer of thermoplastic materials, such as. B. cellulose derivatives, polymerization or polycondensation products or mixtures of those with additives, such as plasticizers, fillers and the like, in granular or. powdery form m extremely easy to achieve. In exercising the invention one proceeds z. B. as follows:
The thermoplastic starting material respectively. the starting materials to be finely divided are processed in a manner known per se with the help of solvents and / or swelling agents in the heat and with movement of the goods, e.g.
B. converted into a homogeneous mass by treatment in kneading machines or stirring devices. Then part of the existing solvent and / or swelling agent is also mixed with the material, e.g. B. in kneaders or stirring devices, distilled off. The portion of the solvent to be distilled off and / or swelling agent, which u. a. depends on the type of starting material, is generally dimensioned so that the distillation! process is continued until the mass is very thick and tough. but has still assumed a coherent nature.
If the masses obtained in this way are then rapidly cooled with constant mixing, they disintegrate with the formation of a grainy or powdery goods that still contain the remaining part of the solution or Contains swelling agent. The finely divided material can now be borrowed from the remaining solvents. Swelling agents are exempt. This can be done in the simplest way, for. B. can be done by subjecting the material to another heating with further stirring. Here, as has been found, it is easy to remove the solvent that is still present in a single operation. To remove swelling agent completely or practically completely.
The distilling off of a portion of the solvent and / or swelling agent from the initially obtained homogeneous mass and also the expulsion of the remaining solvent and / or swelling agent from the comminuted material can be assisted by conventional measures such as evacuation. The solvent and / or swelling agent can be used in a manner known per se, for. B. recovered by condensation or by adsorption and reused. Dais Verfa. Hearing offers the advantage of being able to access the starting material in an extremely simple way. l resp. the starting mixture can be converted into the desired fine-grained or powdery products.
The grain size of the products obtained can be influenced by measures such as the choice of the solvent and swelling agent or solvent mixture used, quantitative proportions, more or less intensive stirring and the like. The products obtained can be used as they arise as prepowder or as powder for the implementation of injection molding processes. The grainy or Powdery goods can also be brought to a higher degree of fineness by grinding it, e.g. B. with a cross beater mill, ball mill or the like, not thrown.
It is known that prepregs can be produced by using mixtures of substances which contain cellulose, volatile organic liquids, and softening agents. and fillers included lten, are brought to temperatures by heating with precipitants at which the volatile organic A compounds escape and the mass is loosened. Due to the action of precipitants, e.g. B. water or steam, a substantial change in the nature of the thermoplastic material occurs. These are, for. B. filled with water from the solution. cloudy and opaque.
In the process of the present patent, however, no filling agents or their vapors are used to remove the solvent from the thermoplastic materials. Instead, solvents are removed by simply drying them off, e.g. B. by thermal distillation, optionally with a reduction in pressure, removed. This type of removal of the solvent has the advantage that clear and transparent substances are produced and that there is also no risk of softening agents being removed with the boiling solvent or by the action of water vapor.
Examples:
1. 100 parts by weight of acetone-soluble cellulose acetate with an acetic acid content of 54.5% are mixed in a kneading machine with 30-50 parts of a suitable plasticizer, optionally with the addition of fillers and / or dyes, with 100-200 parts by weight of pure acetic ester 1-2 Knead at about .50-70 hours until a uniform mass is formed. About 50-100 parts by weight of ethyl acetate are then distilled off with further kneading and increasing the temperature to about 80-100, if necessary in vacuo.
The remaining mass still shows a uniform consistency.
It just got a little tougher and stronger.
The mass is cooled down to about 10-20 within a period of about li2 hours, during which it disintegrates into fine granules.
The remainder of the ethyl acetate is driven out by repeated heating to about 80 to 100 uninterrupted stirring and is recovered by condensation. The mass retains its granular nature. By cooling again to z. B.
10-20 and further stirring in the kneading machine, the fineness of the granules can be increased. Likewise, the resulting fine-grained material can be milled, for. B. with the help of a beater mill or ball mill, amf the desired degrees of fineness can be brought.
2. 100 parts by weight of polyvinyl acetal dehydac. etal are kneaded for a few hours at 50-70 in a kneading machine with 20 parts of plasticizer and 100-200 parts of benzene. Then, while increasing the temperature to about 80-100¯, optionally 50-100 Ge weightafeile benzene in a vacuum. After cooling the mass to 0-10, it disintegrates into fine granules and is further processed as indicated in Example 1.
3. 50 parts by weight of acetone-soluble cellulose acetate and 50 parts by weight of polyvinyl acetaldehyde acetal are treated as in Example 1 with 50 parts by weight of plasticizer and 150 parts by weight of ethyl acetate. A powder is obtained from which products of particularly good elasticity and softness can be manufactured using the injection molding or pre-molding process.
