5), manche long ou court (fig.
Removable handle, especially for ice axes, alpistocks and snow shovels. We know that the two main conditions to which mountaineers' equipment must meet is strength combined with minimum weight. In addition, in the particular case of ice axes and shovels; sportsmen, mountaineers, as well as mountain skiers, particularly appreciate the removable ice ax and shovel which can be transformed into either a normal ice ax or a normal snow shovel, or a short ice ax or a short shovel.
An ice ax or a shovel of this kind also have the advantage of not being bulky since once: dismantled, they can be transported in a mountain bag, not in any way hindering climbing or walking. on skis.
The subject of the invention is a removable handle, in particular for ice axes, alpen stocks and snow shovels, characterized in that it is in two lengths, the ends of which intended to be joined are terminated: one by a male part , tenon-shaped, the other by a female part, notch-shaped, both being held together by means of a key passing right through them.
The schematic drawing shows, by way of example, embodiments of the invention.
Fig. 1 and 2 are. Longitudinal cuts of the ends of two lengths of removable handle, respectively before and after fitting. Fig. 3 is a longitudinal view of a pin provided with a screw thread.
Fig. 4 is a longitudinal section of the two ends of two lengths, the interlocking of which is held by a screw pin.
Fig. 5, 6 and 7 each show a removable handle adapted respectively to a normal ice ax, a short ice ax and a snow shovel.
Fig. 8 shows, on an enlarged scale, a device for preventing the complete separation of the two parts of the handle.
The handle is in two lengths (fig. 1): One, 2, ends with a male part 3 in the form of a tenon; the other, 4, by a female part 5, in the form of a notch. Both can be made of wood, covered or not, both or only one, with a metal cap. These headdresses. can also be light metal, aluminum alloy, for example, and fixed to the handle by screws, rivets or otherwise.
When the tenon and the notch are nested one in the other, they are kept as seem by the pin 6 (fig. 2) straight, curved, cylindrical or conical, introduced into the holes 7 and 8, to pass through the assembly right through and, optionally, attached to one of the lengths in a removable manner, by the chain 9.
The entire assembly is protected by a metal sheath 10 integral with one of the lengths of the handle. In the example described, this sheath 10, preferably made of steel, is integral with the length 2, which ends with the tenon 3, or male part. To facilitate fitting, it is preferable that the female part 5 is covered with a metal sheath 11.
According to an alternative embodiment (fig. 3 and 4), the pin 6ca comprises, at its lower end, a thread 31 intended to allow it to be screwed into the threaded walls 32 of the passage hole made in the sockets 10 and 11. opposite the insertion hole of said pin.
By this means, any accidental tearing of the pin and, consequently, the separation of the two lengths 2 and 4 assembled to form a handle are absolutely avoided.
To facilitate the installation of the pin 6a, the thread 31 is traced on a part of the pin whose diameter is a little less than that of the inlet orifice.
This pin 6a can also be retained on the handle 4 by a chain 9, which, if necessary, can be fixed by means of a carabiner holder 34, for example. This removable fixing makes it possible to easily separate the pin when it is screwed in or out.
The invention is applicable without distinction to ice axes with a normal length handle (fig. 5), long or short handle (fig. 6), alpenstocks and snow shovel handles (fig. 7). It allows absolute interchangeability of the handles between them, so that it is very easy, in particular, to adapt a normal handle, a short handle or a long handle to an ice ax, and vice versa.
In certain cases, it may be advantageous to maintain the two removable parts of the handle, connected by a flexible or elastic link, to avoid their loss.
One way is to join them together by a flexible cable 13 (fig. 8), the end 14 of which is fixed to the head of a bolt 15 which is screwed into a nut 16 placed in a housing provided for this in the female part. 4 of the handle. This bolt is held there by the folded edge 17 of the metal sheath 11.
The other end 18 of the cable 13 is fixed at the end of a spring 19, placed in a housing 21 pierced in the male part 2 of the handle and closed by a nozzle 22, through which the cable 13 passes.
When the two parts 2 and 4 of the handle are separated (fig. 8), the cable 13 is extended by compressing the spring 19 against the nozzle 22.
Disassembled in this way, these two parts can be folded against one another, which reduces the size of the shovel or the ice ax and makes it possible to place it, for example, in a mountain bag.
If one wants to completely separate the two parts 2 and 4 from one another, for example to change one of them, it suffices to unscrew the bolt 15 fixing to one of them. the end of the cable 13.
