Method and device for granulating plastic or doughy substances.
This invention relates to a method and apparatus for producing granulated products. It often turns out to be necessary, for the sake of better further treatment or for other reasons, to convert powdery, plastic or doughy substances into a granular state. For example, certain explosives have an optimal effect in their granular state.
Furthermore, a number of deformable plastic materials are best placed in the molds in a granular state. In other cases, powdery substances can be granulated, i.e. their particles can be made to adhere to one another in such a way that they form agglomerations or grains in order to prevent dust formation during further treatment of the substances, or to facilitate further treatment at all.
It is known to bring about granulation by pushing the doughy or plastic mass spread out on a wire mesh through the mesh by means of hand pressure. While such a process is slow and costly, it is used quite often; because it has proven difficult to find an effective substitute for the pressure exerted progressively by the edge. Attempts have been made to use a rubber plunger for this, but to no avail.
According to the method according to the present invention, the granulation of plastic or doughy substances is accomplished in that the plastic or doughy substances are forced by centrifugal force against the surface of a sieve and the substance, while it is pressed against the sieve, is pressed against the sieve by means of a The scraper is forced through the sieve mesh.
The device according to the present invention has the following parts: a rotating drum screen mounted on a shaft, a rotating scraper arm mounted coaxially to the latter, a flexible scraper mounted on the latter, which rests on the inner surface of the screen and is mounted so that it is pressed against this during operation, and a drive mechanism for the drum screen and the stripping arm, which mechanism sets the latter in rotation in the same sense, but at different speeds.
The speed of rotation of the drum screen is chosen so that the material to be granulated is pushed against the screen, while the scraper arm lags relatively behind the screen in order to exert a stripping effect on the material and at the same time push it through the screen mesh.
In the accompanying drawings, two embodiments of the device are shown, namely:
1 shows a side view, partly in section, of a first embodiment.
Fig. 2 is a cross section along the line 11-11 of Fig. 1,
Fig. 3 is a view similar to that of Fig. 1, a second embodiment and
FIG. 4 shows a cross section along the line IV-IV in FIG. 3.
According to the first embodiment, a gear box 2 is screwed to one end of the drive motor 1. Two gear wheels 4 of different diameters are fastened to the drive shaft 3, and ball bearings 55, which carry a hollow sieve drum shaft 6, are provided in parallel with and above the motor shaft. One end of the latter carries a gear wheel 7 which is in engagement with one gear wheel 4 of the motor shaft 3, while the other end of the shaft 6 projects beyond the housing 8 and carries a disk 9.
On the circumference of the latter, a number of bolts 10 are provided which extend parallel to the shaft 6 and with their ends pass through a ring 11 to which they are attached and which holds them together. Between the disc 9 and the ring 11 is a drum wire mesh screen 12 of a suitable mesh size, z. B. ten per square inch, spanned. A conical shield 13 rises above the ring 11 and has a large central opening 14 through which the material to be granulated is introduced into the interior of the sieve drum.
The sieve drum shaft 6 is hollow and accommodates the scraper shaft 15 which rotates independently of the latter. The latter also carries a gearwheel 16 which meshes with the gearwheel 4 fastened on the motor shaft 3. The difference between the gear 7 mounted on the screen shaft 6 and the gear 16 on the scraper shaft 15 is one tooth, and both gears are meshed with the gears 4 so that they move at different speeds but in the same direction.
Within the sieve 12, a two-armed carrier 18 is attached to the wiper shaft 15 by means of a screw 17. The scrapers 19 are attached to the ends of the arms of the latter. The latter can consist of rubber strips that are screwed to the flat sides of the wiper arm ends. The end faces of the scraper arms are slightly inclined towards the radius of the arms at 20, so that at the front edge 21, seen in the direction of the arrow, there is a certain distance between the surface of the rubber scraper 19 and the inside of the sieve drum, which is against the rear edge of the scraper arm 18 narrowed. The rubber scrapers 19 extend over the rear edge of the scraper arms 18 a small distance, and this cantilevered rubber part is oriented so that it lies firmly against the wire mesh of the screen 12.
In front of the rubber scrapers L9, a distributor or scraper 22 is attached to each scraper arm, the edge of which protrudes from the inside of the wire screen by approximately the same amount as the scraper rubber surface. which is immediately behind her. This distance corresponds to the thickness of the mass as it is desired for the material to be spread on the wire screen and to be granulated. Each stripping arm 18 and each associated rubber scraper 19 is sufficiently wide to be able to exert a pressure on the entire width of the free drum screen surface between the disc 9 and the ring 11.
A filler plate 23 is provided for introducing the material to be treated into the sieve drum 12. The latter, the stripping arm 18 and the associated parts are completely or partially covered by a hood 24.
During operation, the material is introduced into the machine in a doughy or plastic state via the filler plate 23 and, as a result of the centrifugal force, is spread over the wire mesh. When the parts rotate, the scrapers 22 ensure a constant thickness of the spread mass over the entire surface, and any accumulation that occurs is removed and distributed over the entire screen. The scrapers 19 behind the scrapers 22 push this mass through the mesh of the sieve 12, and the centrifugal effect supports this pushing through and also the scrapers in exerting a sufficiently high pressure on the mass.
Different rigidity of the goods can be taken into account by changing the speed of rotation.
The material pressed through the mesh is thrown off due to the centrifugal force and the sieve is kept free.
Each particle expressed through the wire mesh in this way forms a grain. The grains thrown off from the outside of the sieve collect in the hood 24 and can be discharged through an outlet or filling funnel (not shown).
In certain circumstances, instead of rubber, another material, e.g. B. felt or fine-meshed wire mesh, for the scraper 19 are used. In general, however, the material for the scrapers must have sufficient elasticity to rest on the wire screen with even pressure.
3 and 4 show a variant of the granulating machine shown in FIGS. 1 and 2. The drive for the machine ge pushes here by a motor which is arranged vertically in the housing 25. The housing is fastened to a base plate 2e7 by means of bolts 26. The motor shaft 28 is via a worm or worm gear
29 coupled to the drive shaft 30. The latter carries two gears 31 of different diameters which mesh with gears 32 and 33. The gear wheel 32 is fastened on the hollow sieve drum shaft 34 and the gear wheel 33 on the stripper shaft 35. The disk 36, which is connected to the ring 38 by means of the bolts 37, is fastened to the screen shaft 34.
A wire mesh screen drum 39 is stretched within the bolts 37 between the disk 36 and the ring 38, similar to the first embodiment. The wiper arm 40 is screwed onto the end of the wiper shaft 35 and its ends are designed in the form of a yoke 41. Between the ends of the latter are axially mounted two-armed forked links, one arm of which is designated 45 in Fig. 4 and carries a flexible pad of rubber or similar material. The cushion 46 lies on the inner surface of the sieve drum 39.
The second arm 42 is bent at an angle against the arm 45. The two fork prongs of arm 42 unite at point 43, at which one end of a spring 44 engages, while its other end is anchored to an abutment 47 attached to the abotreifer shaft. When the sieve drum and the stripping device 4046, which is delayed in relation to it, are rotated in the direction of the arrow in FIG. The tension of the spring 44 is such that its deflecting effect exerts a pressure on the mass adjacent to the inner screen surface.
Since the material is pushed through the sieve mesh, as has been described in more detail with reference to the scraper 19 of the first embodiment. The front surface of the scraper can be provided with a spreader or scraper similar to element 22 of FIGS. 1 and 2, but which is not shown in FIGS. A funnel 48 can be provided through which the material is introduced into the sieve drum. The sieve or scraper parts can be completely or partially surrounded by a hood 49.
