Überraschender weise zeigen nun Luftgehaltbestimmungen an Mörteln 1 :

Beton be wirkt, verwendet.

B. Al kalisilikate, Erdalkalichloride, Phosphate.
Process for the production of frost-resistant concrete or mortar. The present invention relates to a method for the production of frost-resistant concrete or mortar and aims to create a mortar or concrete which is more resistant to the effects of frost in the hardened state.
You have tried many times and in different ways to make the concrete more resistant to frost, z. B. by sucking off the air pores and excess water. This did not result in any improvement, rather a deterioration in the frost resistance, because a lot of capillaries were created by the suction, which have the ability to suck up the same in contact with water.
No progress in terms of frost resistance was achieved with the addition of oxyacids, although the amount of water in a mortar or concrete can be reduced while maintaining the workability. Although this additive shows favorable results on plasticity, the frost resistance could not be improved to the expected extent because the oxyacids not only do not prevent the water-repellent property of the cements, but actually strengthen them.
By repelling the water, a similar pore formation is favored, as it arises in the suction process and which has an unfavorable effect on the frost resistance. The reduction in the amount of water obtained by improving the plasticity and thus the reduced amount of water pores is canceled out again by the unfavorable formation of capillary pores.
The significant improvement in the frost resistance of concrete and mortar was achieved for the first time by adding natural resin that is insoluble in hydrocarbons. This so-called air-introducing additive creates a lot of small air pores in the mortar or concrete, which, however, are in connection with capillary pores. not or only incompletely fill with water. The disadvantage of these air injector additives is that the improvement in frost resistance can only be achieved at the expense of other important concrete properties.
By introducing additional air into concrete or mortar, the volume weight, compressive and flexural strengths, the adhesive strengths on iron deposits and, due to increased sludge formation, the surface adhesion when concreting are significantly reduced. However, this limits the general use of the concrete, which is probably frost-resistant, or requires special measures.
The addition of an alcoholic acid to mortar and concrete improves the density, which is caused by the fact that the alcoholic acids have a foam-destroying effect by increasing the surface tension of water.
It was therefore to be expected that the combined addition of an oxyacid with an air-introducing substance would adversely affect the foaming capacity and therefore the formation of closed air pores. Surprisingly, air content determinations on mortars 1 now show:
4 with air-introducing substances and simultaneous addition of foam-destroying ogy acids not only does not have an unfavorable effect on the formation of air entrainment, but even aids in the ability to form foam, as can be seen from Table I below. Table 1

which contain a hydraulic binder, at least one plasticizing agent and at least one agent that BEZW the formation of gas-containing pores with mortar. Concrete acts, used.
In order to generate a certain air pore content, with the simultaneous addition of an alcoholic acid, the proportion of the air-introducing agent can therefore be reduced by about 10%, whereby the water excretion, which is undesirable in many cases, is also prevented or at least greatly reduced .
As an air inlet. Additives that create micropores are generally surface-active substances that reduce the surface tension of water in an alkaline solution. However, only those substances that are soluble in an alkaline solution are effective. It is therefore also possible to use substances such as artificial or natural resins that are insoluble in neutral or acidic water, but go into solution as alkali salts.
The following natural resins may be mentioned: fir resin insoluble in aromatic hydrocarbons, rosin, copals, etc. In the same way, they are also suitable. the resinates, preferably the alkali salts; The sulfonates or sulfates which form soluble alkaline earth salts, which are known specifically as wetting agents, are very suitable, e.g.
B. Lauryl alcohol sulfonates. Artificial resins include casein, phenol and cresol-formaldehyde resins. The fatty acid alkali salts, although wetting agents, are ineffective because they form insoluble alkaline earth or aluminum salts and are therefore precipitated during the production of the mortar or concrete.
Metals, which develop hydrogen in reaction with the cement, are also suitable as gas-introducing and pore-forming substances. Such metals, which can be used in the most finely distributed form, are calcium, magnesium and aluminum or their alloys.
The additional amount of air required for frost-resistant concrete fluctuates between 3 and 8 percent by volume.
Aliphatic and cyclic Ogy acids are suitable as liquefying substances that reduce the need to make water on a mortar or concrete mixture and that do not act as air entrainers. B. tartaric acid, citric acid, sugar acid, degtronic acid, salicylic acid, etc., calcium lignosulfonate, alizarinsulfonic acid, humic acid.
This class of substances is referred to below simply as plasticizers or plasticizing substances.
The necessary additional amounts of the air-pore-introducing substances, such as the gas-generating metals, are very small and amount to between 0.005 and 0.5%, the amount of plasticizing substances 0.025-0.5, depending on the volume % based on the amount of binder by weight. The additives can be added together or individually either in the production of the cements during or after the grinding of the clinker or in the production of the concrete or mortar in dry form or in solution. The improvements achieved according to the invention ments can also be obtained if, for.
B. only the air increase be conditional additive is ground to the clinker or cement, but the further addition of the plasticizer only afterwards, z. B. on the construction site during the production of the concrete or mortar.
It is characteristic of hydraulic binders that water is necessary to harden them. Approximately l'2) -15% water is required for complete hardening of Portland cement. All the rest of the water that is brought into the mortar or concrete when it is mixed remains in the cement paste in fine capillaries or water pores. One cubic meter of concrete P300 with a water-cement factor of 0.60 has z.
B. a capillary pore volume, which comes from the excess water alone, of 135 liters. Some of the water can evaporate from these capillaries; but they immediately soak up water again when they come into contact with it. These capillaries are of the utmost importance for the behavior of the concrete against frost.
It is now a great advantage that the amount of capillary pores in a concrete or mortar is reduced by adding a plasticizing product in accordance with the possibility of water reduction. The reduction of the capillary pore volume can z. B. in the example above 14-20 liters per cubic meter of concrete.
Since the air-introducing means penetrate the cement masses with air pores which cannot be filled with water, the amount of air pores required for buffering can also be smaller with a reduced capillary volume. Since, according to the tests, when a plasticizer and an air-introducing agent are added, the amount of mixing water can be reduced and air can be introduced at the same time, mortar and concrete can be produced,
which surprisingly have both a considerable improvement over the action of frost and with respect to various other material-technical properties, the improvement achieved being greater than that obtained by adding the improvements that bezw with the individual addition of the plasticizing substance. of the air introducing agent would be expected.
Some of these properties, such as reducing capillarity (water absorption), improving frost and weather resistance, compressive and flexural strengths, the adhesive strength of iron inserts and in construction joints by reducing or preventing the formation of layers of sludge and increasing the thermal insulation . only briefly pointed out.
1. Examples: On the one hand, comparative mortars 1: 6 without addition with 12, 13 and 14% make-up water and, on the other hand, a series of equally dosed mortars using additives with correspondingly the same workability were produced. The equality of the plasticity was determined by determining the spread on the shaking table according to Haegermann. The mortars were mixed for three minutes and four 4 X 4 X 16 cm prisms were made from them.
The additives, given in% of the amount of Portland cement used, were mixed in in powder form before the mortar was mixed. After stripping the formwork, the specimens were stored for fourteen days in the humid chamber, then for fourteen days in water.
Two of the four prisms were then frozen 50 times, while the comparison bodies were further stored in water. After 50 cycles of frost, all bodies were tested for flexural strength and compressive strength.
The results as well as the more detailed information are given in the following table II: table 1I
EMI0004.0020
Table II (continued)
EMI0005.0003
The decrease in the firmness of the body without the addition of frost is quite significant and the greater the greater the amount of mowed water.
With the addition of plasticizers alone, higher strengths are achieved, but the drop in strength due to frost is greater, even if the final strengths are still as high or higher than those of the bodies without additives and without frost. The air-introducing additives achieve a significant improvement in frost resistance.
With the combined addition of air-introducing agent and plasticizing substance, on the other hand, bodies are obtained with a far clear improvement in frost resistance, so that they can be described as practically frost-proof. A decrease in strength does not occur even with a larger amount of water added, despite the fact that, according to the tests, a significant loss in strength was to be expected with individual additions.
The results are all the more surprising because the simultaneous use of a foaming agent and a plasticizer resulted in a much more significant improvement in frost resistance and strength than could be assumed from the results of the individual addition.
It is known that the foaming agents, i.e. air-introducing additives, considerably reduce the sliding resistance of the iron inserts in concrete, while plasticizing substances such as oyacids, calcium lignin and sulfonate with calcium chloride increase the same considerably.
It is therefore to be expected that the simultaneous use of a foamer and a plastificator reduces the beneficial effect of the latter on the sliding resistance of iron in concrete in the best case by the single effect of the air-introducing agent. The experiments now show that this obvious assumption does not correspond to the facts.
The weakening of the sliding resistance of iron in concrete, which is increased by a plasticizer, takes place in a significantly smaller mass when the foamer is added at the same time.
z. Examples: Concrete samples 1: 2, 5: 5 of a plastic consistency with and without various additives, which were added in dry form during mixing, were produced. The addition of water was measured in such a way that there was always a sink rate (according to Abrams) of 5-6 cm. From these various concrete robes, cubes 10 x 10 cm were made, into each of which a bare iron rod of 10 mm diameter and 12 cm length was concreted.
After seven days, the force that had to be used to push out the iron rod was measured. The details and the results are compiled in the following Table III: Table III
EMI0006.0022
The impairment of the sliding resistance by the air-introducing additives is quite considerable, since it accounts for up to 50% in the above examples.
With the addition of foaming agents and plasticizers combined, this disadvantage can not only be eliminated, but also remarkable improvements are achieved.
The formation of the mud layers on the surface of the concrete, which are different depending on the consistency of the same, is perceived as unpleasant. These surface layers, some of which are compact, shiny and some of which are loose, do not have sufficient adhesion to the concrete. The substances introduced by the air promote the formation of a layer of sludge and thus worsen the unfavorable conditions in the construction joints even more.
When plasticizers and air-injecting substances were used together, however, it became clear that the negative effect of the foamers and the positive effect of the plasticizers do not simply add up, but that the foam-increasing effect of the plasticizers is expressed to a greater extent.
3. Examples: With part of the Concrete mixes given in the examples, the lower part of an upright mold for concrete prisms 12 y 12 x 36 was made. After a hardening time of three days, the upper half was concreted on with the same concrete from a new mixture without changing the surface of the concrete. After seven days of the younger concrete, the test specimens were checked for flexural strength,
checks. The results obtained are contained in columns 7 and 8 of Table III. The flexural strengths are a measure of the quality of the concrete surface.
Advantageously, known sealing, water-repellent, dispersing and setting regulating compounds can also be used together with the Sehäumern and plasticizers, such as B. Al potassium silicates, alkaline earth chlorides, phosphates.
