Process for the preparation of ß-haloalkyl carbonic acid esters. It is known that β-haloalkylchlorocarbon esters can be prepared by allowing phosgene to act in pure form on alkyl halohydrins in the presence or absence of organic bases (Houben III, p. 6 and C. 1928, I, 1963). This implementation, which has to be carried out in the bomb tube, takes 5-8 days to complete and has the disadvantage that working with undiluted phosgene is not unsafe.
In contrast, the invention relates to a method which avoids these disadvantages by using the phosgene not in pure form, but dissolved in inert organic solvents such as toluene or benzene, with stirring. In this way, the phosgene can be processed much more safely. There is also the advantage that the implementation is considerably faster than with the known method. Compared to a reaction time of 5-8 days, the reaction can be completed after 16 hours according to the new process.
The reaction conveniently takes place at low temperatures, since the implementation is extremely lively.
It is advisable to use organic bases, e.g. B. pyridine or dimethylaniline, add and separate the GE formed chlorohydrates.
You can with stirring to the alkyl halohydrins, such as ethylene bromohydrin or propylene bromohydrin, which can optionally be anhydrous orga African bases such.
B. dimethylaniline or pyridine added, phosgene solutions in toluene or benzene with a content of 20% phosgene, for example, while cooling the batch with an ice-high salt mixture. The reaction has ended after about 16 hours. The separated hydrochloride is separated off, the solvent is evaporated off at reduced pressure and the ester is rectified in vacuo.
Example 1 ss-Bromoätltylehlorkolalens & atreester- 626 g of ethylene bromohydrin are mixed with 606 g of dimethylaniline and, while stirring, dropwise to 3600 cm 'of 20% phosgene solution in toluene, which is heated to about. -18 C is cooled, added. After about 5 hours the entire mixture has flowed in. It is left with stirring in the slowly thawing cold mixture.
The reaction has ended after about 16 hours. Salt acidic dimethylaniline has settled as a thick syrup at the bottom of the vessel. 1Ha.n separates from the sediment, absorbs it with ice water and extracts it with ether. The essential extract is added to the toluene solution, washed twice with ice water, dried with magnesium sulfate, filtered and the solvent evaporated under reduced pressure. The residue is fractionated in vacuo. The yield is 732 g of ss-bromoethyl chloride carbonic acid ester with a gp of 10/11 mm 58-60.
Example ss-Broiitpropylenelalorkoltleytsäureester 70 g propylenbromhy drin - are mixed with 61 g dimethylaniline and with stirring ren dropwise to 375g 20% iger phosgene solution in toluene, which is cooled with an E1S saline mixture to about -18 ° C, added. After about 1 hour it is. the entire mixture flowed in. It is left with stirring in the slowly thawing cold mixture. The reaction has ended after a few hours.
Hydrochloric acid dimethyl aniline has settled as a thick syrup at the bottom of the vessel. Eimvasser, dry with magnesium sulfa, filtered and evaporated; the solvent at reduced pressure. The residue is fractionated in vacuo. Kp 16/18 mm 71 to (3.5 '. The yield is 45 g.
Example 3 ss-Brofrtäthylehlorkohlert säitr-eester To 360 cm 'of a 20% phosgene solution in toluene, 62.5 g of ethylene bromohydrin are added dropwise at below 5.
