Self-functioning breathing apparatus. The main patent describes a breathing apparatus that operates automatically and can be used in any gaseous or liquid medium. Such an apparatus comprises a bellows subjected, on the one hand, to the pressure prevailing in the expansion chamber and, on the other hand, to the pressure of the ambient medium.
This bellows controls the valve through which the air from a compressed air cylinder is admitted into the expansion chamber. An inflow of air thus occurs in said chamber as soon as the overpressure with respect to the ambient environment becomes less than a determined value.
In the main patent, there is shown, by way of example, an embodiment according to which the bellows -is accordion-shaped. the space .situated inside the bellows communicating with the .ambient environment, while the expansion chamber is located outside , this bellows.
The reduction mechanism actuating the air inlet valve is placed laterally with respect to the bellows. According to the present invention, the accordion bellows is nailed by its outer surface to the pressure prevailing in the ambient environment.
The expansion chamber -is located inside this bellows and contains the linkage mechanism connecting the bellows to the air inlet valve. This results in a significant reduction in the size and weight of the assembly.
The drawing shows, by way of example, an embodiment of the apparatus according to the invention.
Fig. 1 is a vertical section, the supply being provided by a single bottle of compressed air.
Fig. 2 shows the device in place on the user.
The fi! G. 3 shows a variant adopted in the 11th case of a supply by means of two bottles.
The device shown in FIG. 1 com takes a body 72 surmounted by a cover 73, the interior of which communicates with the ambient environment by. openings 74. In this cover is arranged the bellows 31 in the form of an accor déon. The enclosure 90 located inside this bellows constitutes the expansion chamber of the apparatus.
The mechanism ensuring the connection between the bellows 31 and the valve 2, which ensures the air intake, is placed inside: the: bellows 31. On the body 72 is fixed a support 75, on which can pivot in 7 6 Lin lever 77, articulated at 78 to a yoke 79, itself attached to a rod 80 which is fixed to the upper wall of the bellows 31.
The lever 7 7 is in contact with another lever 81 pivots both at 82 on the support 75 and on the valve stem 46 9a 2 returned by a spring 3. The set of levers 77 and 81 transmits the movement of the yoke 79 to the valve \ ?.
The channel 4 formed in the body 72 for the arrival of air contains a filter 83 and has at its lower end a thread into which a penetrating tube 84 is screwed. in a knurled handwheel 85 containing an O-ring spring 86. This handwheel ensures the connection with the head 87 provided with a control valve 8.8 and screwed into the bottle 89.
This one. can be worn by means of a frame 91 and straps 92 adapting to the user, as seen in FIG. 2.
At 41 is arranged a valve urn. automatic tick provided with a return spring 42 and placed in a pipe 93 which communicates by a flexible pipe 39 with the mask 40. The spring 42 is calibrated -so that the valve 41 opens when the pressure prevails in the expansion chamber 90 is greater .d'a quantity: determined (preferably 2'0 g / cm2) than that of the pipe 93.
The mask 40 is provided with an automatic valve (not shown) opening outwards.
The operation of the apparatus is as follows: The valve 88 of the bottle being supposed closed, the bellows 31 is crushed under the effect of the pressure of the ambient medium, and as a result of the connection made between the bottom of the bellows and the valve 2 by the elements 80, 79, 77, 81, said valve is moved away from its seat.
When the valve 88 is opened, there is produced, under the effect of the increase in pressure created in the chamber 90, an extension of the bellows 31. The latter moves the rod 80 and the yoke 7 upwards. 9 and turns the lever 77 around its axis 76, so as to move it away from the lever 81, which tends to relieve the valve 2.
The spring 3 and the connecting members interposed between the bellows 31 and the valve 2 are so determined that the valve 2 closes when the pressure in the expansion chamber 90 exceeds the external pressure by about 20 g / m.
When the user sucks in the pipe 93, the valve 41 opens under the effect of the slight depression thus created, the bellows 31 contracts and produces through the transmission 80, 79, 77 , 81 the opening of the. valve 2. An air intake is therefore -d'ans the expansion chamber 90 as long as the suction lasts by the user.
When this suction ceases, the valve 41 is applied to its seat under the action of the spring 42, the bellows expands: again and produces the closure of the air inlet valve 2.
The valve 88 of the bottle remaining open, the pressure in the expansion chamber 90 is greater than that of the ambient medium, the difference between the two pressures being close to? 0 glcm \. Whether the device is submerged in air or in water, any change in the external pressure immediately results in an equal change in the pressure in the expansion chamber.
The arrangement of the reduction mechanism inside the bellows 31, in accordance with the present invention, allows a very complete and relatively light assembly to be produced.
Instead of being connected to a single bottle, as in the case of fig. 1 and 2, the expansion chamber can also be supplied by two bottles. Such an arrangement is shown in FIG. 3.
The body 70 is then joined by a connector 95 to a tube 96 communicating with a distributor 97 on which are connected two bottles 7 and 8. The assembly is carried by a frame 98 provided with straps 99. The tube 96 is protected. by a gutter 100 fixed to the frame 98.
