Equipment on rear-engined vehicles for supplying air to the engine compartment. It is known that in motor vehicles with a rear engine, the cooling air supply to the engine compartment is verbun with great difficulty, since there is a significant negative pressure around the rear of the vehicle while driving.
The cheapest type of air supply is probably from the underside of the vehicle, as the air that is pressed under the vehicle while driving can only escape to both sides between the front and rear wheels, which can be prevented in some cases by various devices, such as for example by means of guide surfaces and the like.
One. The disadvantage of such devices is the fact that in the case of relatively low vehicles such surfaces reach down too deep and must therefore be flexible so that they are not damaged when driving over stones or other obstacles.
In order to increase the air overpressure effect on the lower part of the vehicle, an end face on the vehicle has already been proposed that directs the air downwards towards the rear.
According to the present invention, the end face of the vehicle is indented from both sides towards the center in order to collect the air deflected by it in the longitudinal axis of the vehicle. This is intended to prevent the air passed under the vehicle while driving under the vehicle from escaping laterally before it reaches the opening through which it is passed into the vehicle interior, without special means for holding the air together.
The accompanying drawing illustrates an embodiment of the subject matter of the invention schematically in FIGS. 1 and 2 in a side view and in a view from below.
As can be seen from the drawing, the front face 1 of the vehicle directs the air backwards and downwards and is also indented from both sides towards the center, so that the air deflected by it while driving is in the longitudinal center of the vehicle is collected and led down. Relatively little air escapes between the front of the wheels 2 and the rear wheels 3, since the air that is converged behind the surface 1 expands to the sides, but has now reached the opening 4 and penetrates through it into the engine compartment.
It is clear that, thanks to this training, there is no need for any guide surfaces on the underside of the vehicle, with a further advantage being that the main air flow comes from the front of the vehicle and is therefore still relatively clean and not that from Contains dust, etc. whirled up by the wheels.
The end face 1 limits either, as shown, an opening in the shape of a half cone or with angular Einbuch do an opening in the shape of a half pyramid, in both cases the cut plane lies in the undersurface of the vehicle.
