Process for the preparation of i-hegyl isocyanate. In the main patent, a process for the preparation of methyl isocyanate is described, according to which a trisubstituier- ter urea, which has a substituent formed by a methyl group on one N atom and two substituents formed by hydrocarbon radicals on the other N atom, which together are considerable have more carbon atoms than the methyl group,
so that the two amide groups of the urea correspond to two amines with considerably different boiling points, split by heating and at the same time the methyl isocyanate formed is distilled off as the lower boiling of the two splitting products.
It has now been found that hegyl isocyanate can be obtained in an equally smooth manner and in excellent yield and purity if, for example, one of the following is used as the trisubstituted urea: N-diphenyl, N-dibenzyl, N -Ditolyl-, N-phenyl-n-naphthyl- and N-di-n-octadecyl-N'-n- respectively. -i-hegylurea.
The subject of the present additional patent is a process for the production of isocyanic acid i-hegyl ester, which is characterized in that a tri-substituted urea, which on one N atom has a substituent formed by an i-hegyl group, on the other N- Atom, on the other hand, has two substituents formed by hydrocarbon radicals which together contain considerably more carbon atoms than the hegyl group,
so that the two amines in the amide groups of the urea correspond to significantly different boiling points, cleave by heating and at the same time distill off the i-hegyl isocyanate as the lower boiling point of the two cleavage products.
The cleavage temperatures vary depending on the urea used and are generally above 200 C. If the required cleavage temperature is higher than the boiling point of the cleavage products, these can be increased by applying pressure at least so far that at least the boiling point of the heavier boiling point of the cleavage product higher than the cleavage temperature.
Example: 296 g of N-diphenyl-N'-i-hexylurea are heated to 240-290; 127 g of i-hexyl isocyanate distill over with a boiling point of 160-165. 169 g of diphenylamine remained in the residue.
The same end product, ie isocyanoic acid i-hexyl ester, is obtained when, for example, N-dibenzyl-, N-ditolyl-, N-phenyl-N-naphthyl- and N-di-n-octadecyl-N'-i -hexylurea runs out.
