Process for the preparation of a trisazo dye. It has been found that valuable trisazo dyes are obtained if diazo compounds of amino disazo dyes of the general formula Rl-N = N-R = -N = N-R, -NH @, where R1 is an aromatic radical,
which contains an oxy and a carboxyl group in the o-position to one another, R. and R3 denote the radicals of aromatic amino compounds of the benzene or naphthalene series which are free of earboxyl groups and which couple in the p-position to the amino group, of which at most one contains a sulfonic acid group,
combined with ae-ylamino-oxynaphtha.linmonosulfonic acids.
The .minodisazo dyes used as starting dyes can be obtained by combining diazo compounds of aromatic amines, which contain an oxy and a carboxyl group in the o-position to one another, with an amino compound capable of coupling, which can be further diazotized,
the aminoazo dyes obtained are further diazotized and in turn combined with an amino compound capable of further diazotization, at least one component containing a sulfonic acid group.
The present patent now relates to a process for the production of a trisazo dye, characterized in that 1-diazo-4-oxybenzene-3-carboxylic acid is combined with 1-aminonaphthalene-7-sulfonic acid in an acidic medium, the diazo-compound des obtained monoazo dye combined with 1-amino-2-methoxy-5-methylbenzene in acidic medium,
the disazo dye thus obtained is further diazotized and the diazo compound is combined with 1-acetylamino-8-oxynaphthalene-4-sulfonic acid in an alkaline medium.
The trisazo dye obtained in this way is a dark powder that dissolves in concentrated sulfuric acid with dark green, in water with violet black color and is precipitated from the aqueous solution on the addition of alkali as a blue precipitate, and colors cellulose-containing fibers in greenish-gray shades, which turn into a very lightfast and washfast blue-gray when treated with copper sulfate or chromium fluoride.
Example: The diazo compound of 15.3 parts of 1-amino-4-oxybenzene-3-carboxylic acid is combined with a solution of 22.3 parts of 1-amino-naphthalene-7-sulfonic acid in the presence of excess sodium acetate.
The monoazofa dye obtained in this way is dissolved with sodium hydroxide solution, the solution is dia.zotiert and the diazo compound is combined in the presence of excess sodium acetate with a hydrochloric acid solution of 13.7 parts of 1-amino-? - methoxy-5-methylbenzene. It dissolves in dilute caustic soda with a purple color.
The dye paste is further diazoated. The resulting diazotization liquid is allowed to run at 0 into a solution of 28.1 parts of 1-acetylamino-8-oxynaphthalin-4-sulfonic acid, to which excess sodium carbonate has been added. The separated dye, which has been cleaned by washing with salt water, is dried.
