Description
Zusatzpatent zum Hauptpatent Nr. 218139. Hartmetallformliörper. Das Hauptpatent Nr. 218139 betrifft einen insbesondere für Bohrwerkzeuge geeig neten Hartmetallformkörper, der aus einer gesinterten Grundmasse besteht, in der Hart metallstücke grösserer Härte und höherer Sin- tertemperatur von einer Mindestkorngrösse von 0,1 mm eingebettet sind.
Die eingebet teten Hartmetallstücke können aus min destens einem Karbid der hochschmelzenden Metalle Wolfram, Molybdän, Chrom, Tantal, Niob, Vanadium, Titan und gegebenenfalls einem Metall der Eisengruppe bestehen.
Die Grundmasse kann aus mindestens einem Karbid der Metalle der sechsten Gruppe des periodischen Systems (Wolfram, Molybdän, Chrom) und bis zu 255'o' aus mindestens einem Metall der Eisengruppe (Kobalt, Nik- kel, Eisen) bestehen, wobei ein Teil dieser Karbide auch durch Karbide der hochschmel zenden Metalle der vierten und/oder fünften Gruppe des periodischen Systems ersetzt wer den kann. Die Menge der eingesinterten Hartmetallstücke, die am besten in einer Korngrösse von 0,1 bis 4 mm verwendet wer den, liegt zweckmässig in den Grenzen von 5 bis 70 %.
Solche Hartmetallformkörper be sitzen neben einer ausreichenden Zähigkeit den Vorteil, lange griffig zu bleiben und da mit einen schnellen Bohrfortschritt und eine verhältnismässig lange Lebensdauer zu ge währleisten.
Es hat sich nun als zweckmässig erwiesen, die Verschleissfestigkeit und damit die Le bensdauer solcher Hartmetallformkörper da durch weiter zu erhöhen, dass man ihnen noch Diamantkörner zugibt, und zwar zweckmässig in einer Menge von 0,1 bis 20 %, insbeson dere 0,1 bis 5 %. Die Korngrösse der Dia manten wie auch die Grösse des Diamant- zusa.tzes wird am besten den jeweiligen Ar beitsbedingungen und der gewünschten Le bensdauer der Formkörper angepasst.
Viel fach können die unter der Bezeichnung Dia- mant-Bort im Handel befindlichen Diamant- körner für diesen Verwendungszweck benutzt werden, die gegenüber den bei Bohrkronen sonst üblichen grossen Einzeldiamanten ver hältnismässig billig sind.
Zur Herstellung der neuen Hartinetall- formkörper kann man beispielsweise von einer Mischung aus Wolframkarbid und etwa 12% Kobalt ausgehen, zu dieser etwa 20,"ö einer gesehmolzenenWolframkarbidlegiernng von einer Korngrösse von etwa 0,3 mm imd etwa 2, ; Diamantkörner von etwa 0,5 mm Korngrösse zumengen und das Gemenge in einer Graphitform unter Anwendung von Druck auf etwa 1300 C erhitzen.
Um die eingebetteten Diamantkörner ganz ausnutzen zu können, ist es in manchen Fäl len ferner ratsam, die Formkörper nicht in ihrer ganzen Länge mit Diamantkörnern zu versetzen, sondern nur so weit, wie praktiseli eine Abnutzung der Formkörper zulässig ist. So wird bei Bohrspitzen im allgemeinen ein Diamantzusatz bis zur halben Höhe der Spit zen ausreichen, weil & r untere Teil der Spitzen mehr der Befestigung ini Schaft material dient und nicht ganz a,ufgcbr < iuclit werden kann.
Die Herstellung solcher Form- körper kann in der Weise erfolgen, dass man zunächst das diamantfreie Ausgangsgemisch in die Pressform bis zur gewünschten Höhe einfüllt, die diamanthaltige D1ischung nach füllt und dann in an sich bekannter Weise unter Druck sintert.

Such hard metal moldings have the advantage, in addition to sufficient toughness, of having a long grip and thus ensuring rapid drilling progress and a relatively long service life.
It has now proven to be expedient to further increase the wear resistance and thus the service life of such shaped carbide bodies by adding diamond grains to them, specifically in an amount of 0.1 to 20%, in particular 0.1 to 5%. The grain size of the diamonds as well as the size of the diamond additive is best adapted to the respective working conditions and the desired service life of the shaped bodies.
In many cases, the diamond grains which are commercially available under the name of Diamond Bort and which are relatively cheap compared to the large individual diamonds that are otherwise customary in drill bits can be used for this purpose.
To manufacture the new hard metal moldings, one can, for example, start from a mixture of tungsten carbide and about 12% cobalt, for this about 20% of a molten tungsten carbide alloy with a grain size of about 0.3 mm and about 2, diamond grains of about 0, Add 5 mm grain size and heat the mixture in a graphite mold to about 1300 C using pressure.
In order to be able to fully utilize the embedded diamond grains, it is also advisable in some cases not to offset the shaped bodies with diamond grains over their entire length, but only as far as practical wear of the shaped bodies is permissible. In the case of drill bits, for example, a diamond additive up to half the height of the tips will generally be sufficient because the lower part of the tips is more used for fastening in the shaft material and cannot be completely removed.
Such moldings can be produced in such a way that the diamond-free starting mixture is first poured into the mold to the desired height, the diamond-containing mixture is refilled and then sintered under pressure in a manner known per se.
