L'appareil représenté comprend un outil tranchant constitué par un burin 1 présen tant, à son extrémité, un tranchant 2 situé dans son plan médian. Le tranchant 2 affecte la forme d'une arête légèrement inclinée sur la perpendiculaire à l'axe du burin, comme on peut le voir sur la fig. 1. A l'une de ses extrémités, le tranchant forme une pointe par laquelle l'outil pénètre dans la tôle qu'il s'agit de couper. De forts dégagements 4 sont prévus de part et d'autre du tranchant 2, dans la région de la pointe 3 comme on le voit sur les fig. 1 et 2.
Le burin 1 est fixé de manière connue sur un instrument pneumatique, de préférence le corps d'un marteau pneumatique, destiné à lui communiquer un mouvement de va-et- vient longitudinal rapide. On conçoit facile ment que, par suite de ce mouvement, la pointe 3 pénètre dans la tôle et le tranchant 2 coupe celle-ci un peu à la façon d'une scie.
Grâce à l'appareil décrit, il est possible de découper avec une très grande rapidité des tôles ayant les formes les plus variées et de produire ce découpage suivant des lignes ayant des formes même très compliquées. Un tel appareil est particulièrement utile dans le cas où il s'agit de découper des tôles de car rosseries d'automobiles, en vue de leur récu pération.

The apparatus shown comprises a cutting tool consisting of a chisel 1 having, at its end, a cutting edge 2 located in its median plane. The cutting edge 2 takes the form of an edge slightly inclined on the perpendicular to the axis of the chisel, as can be seen in fig. 1. At one of its ends, the cutting edge forms a point through which the tool penetrates the sheet to be cut. Strong clearances 4 are provided on either side of cutting edge 2, in the region of tip 3 as seen in FIGS. 1 and 2.
The chisel 1 is fixed in a known manner on a pneumatic instrument, preferably the body of a pneumatic hammer, intended to impart to it a rapid longitudinal reciprocation movement. It is easy to understand that, as a result of this movement, the point 3 penetrates into the sheet and the cutting edge 2 cuts it a little like a saw.
Thanks to the apparatus described, it is possible to cut sheets having the most varied shapes very quickly and to produce this cutting along lines having even very complicated shapes. Such a device is particularly useful in the case where it is a question of cutting sheet metal from automobile bodies, with a view to their recovery.
