Plant for the continuous distillation and carbonization of solid carbonaceous materials. The present invention relates to a plant for the continuous distillation and carbonization of solid carbonaceous materials, such as wood, coal, lignite, oil shales, various woody materials, fibers, cores, sawdust and the like.
This installation is characterized by the fact that it comprises a vertical distillation retort, which is surrounded by a refractory and heat-insulating envelope, reserving, between it and said retort, an annular chamber for the heating gases of the latter, the retort being surmounted by a feed device and communicating, at its lower end, with an evacuation device, the installation further comprising at least two horn heating systems, which can, at will , operate alternatively or concurrently.
In the accompanying drawing, and by way of example: Fi-. 1 is a schematic partial vertical section of an installation according to the invention; Fig. 2 is a cross section of the heat insulating jacket; Fig. d is an interior perspective view of one element of this shirt. The installation shown comprises a retort 1, arranged vertically and in which the fuel 2 contained in the feed hopper 3 falls, provided with an autoclave cover 4. In the lower frustoconical part of the hopper can rotate a trunk of hollow cone 5, the upper rim of which rests on rollers 6 and the internal face of which is furnished with projections indicated schematically at 7.
One of the rollers 6 acts as driving rollers, for example in combination with a gear and a toothed ring carried by the flange, and is dragged by a pulley & integral with its shaft.
The retort 1 is placed in a refractory and insulating jacket 9, made of bricks for example, which reserves, between its internal wall and the external one, of said retort, an annular chamber 16. This refractory jacket 9 eômporte, at different levels, manholes such as 10 and it is lined on the outside with thermal insulation 11, at its lower part of greater thickness, while the upper parts, of lesser thickness, also have thermal insulation 12.
The hopper 3 is surrounded by a jacket 13, possibly provided with thermal insulation 1.1 and forms therewith an annular chamber 15 allowing the upward circulation of the combustion gases coming from the annular space 16 included between the retort 1 and ha belling 9.
The lower part of the brickwork forms the two combustion chambers 17 and 17 ', into which the groups of burners 18-18' and 19-19 'respectively enter; the burners 18-19 are connected to a pipe 20 supplied by an external source, for example by a gasifier, and are used for starting, as well as, where appropriate, for additional heating during distillation. The gases given off during the distillation are conducted, from the retort 1, by the pipes 21-2l ', to the burners 18'-19', which are the burners for normal operation. A bypass 21'a optionally allows the excess gas to be taken, either to burn it or to recover the condensable parts.
To the lower part of the retort 1 is connected the unloading device, consisting of a casing 22 provided with cooling fins 23 and inspection and unclogging buffers 24, from which the solid combustion products are obtained. taken up by an endless chain device 25, closed in a housing 26, and driven by a pulley 27 wedged on one of its shafts. This pulley 27 can, as shown, be advantageously connected to the control device 8 of the feed mentioned above.
The casing 26, opens into a suspended foir 29, whose neck 30, provided with a hydraulic seal with drain valve, is constantly kept close to the lower edge of the casing 26, so as to sealing, for example by means of a counterweight 31 articulated around an axis 32. When the filling of the damper has reached a predetermined weight and adjustable by displacement of the counterweight 3.1 on its support rod, the neck 30 moves away from the housing and, by the escape of gases and fumes, indicates that it is necessary to empty the damper.
The support arm 34 is articulated on a bell 35, which plunges into a bowl 36, supplied with gas by a pipe 37, at the pressure prevailing in the casing 26, in order to thus partly balance the pressure acting on the damper. and which tends to cause its untimely opening in the event of an increase in pressure in said housing 26.
According to an advantageous embodiment, a coil 38 can be placed in the annular space 16 and receives water through its connection 39. The steam which escapes from it at 40 can be used for all purposes, in particular for operate a low-speed motor which drives pulleys 8 and 27 and can, if necessary, operate other accessory mechanisms of the installation.
Due to the fact that installations of this kind are often intended for. be established in places of difficult access, it is advantageous to make them in elements of relatively low weight and of easy assembly, these elements being able, for example, to be constituted by the loading hopper, the retort in one or more rooms, the evacuation device and the dampers. The exterior cladding, which constitutes the heaviest and most bulky element, is then advantageously subdivided into sections, as indicated in the cross section fi-. 2.
It can be seen that rows of refractory bricks 9 are mounted in a sheet metal sheath 42, of which. the edges are folded back at 43 and which carries outside assembly angles 44, by means of which quarter-cylinder wind can be assembled or disassembled by any suitable means.
