Method and device for casting strands. The invention relates to a method for casting strands and to a device for exercising this method.
In the manufacture of casts, the aim is to achieve a grain that is as uniform as possible, and usually very fine, over the entire casting cross-section. In addition, any oozing out of any constituent parts from the melt should be avoided. This goal is sought by trying to obtain the smallest possible liquid cavity and the fastest and most uniform possible cooling of the cast Me taller.
In the casting process known to date, attempts have been made to cool the metal entering the mold as quickly as possible by making mold walls from a wide variety of materials and cooling the molds themselves with a wide variety of coolants on their outer wall.
However, up until now all these processes have not been able to achieve, or only with cumbersome and expensive equipment or processes, that the casting solidifies quickly and evenly over the entire cross section after entering the mold. As is well known, the difficulties encountered in casting are essentially due to
that when the liquid metal is poured into the mold, due to the relatively strong temperature gradient between the casting material and the mold wall, the metal in contact with the wall solidifies and the cooling then only continues slowly inwards according to the thermal conductivity of the cast metal, and at the same time the shrinkage of the metal worker lifts it off the mold wall.
As soon as there is only a tiny gap between the mold wall and the metal. arises, the heat dissipation is greatly weakened by this insulating space, so that the solidification can only progress slowly towards the inside.
As a result, depending on the various casting processes, larger or smaller liquid voids arise, which in turn lead to a non-uniform structure and, depending on the type of cast material, a separation of the constituents or other irregularities. The purpose of the invention is to avoid these disadvantages.
This purpose is achieved according to the invention in that a coolant is supplied in such a way that it touches the liquid casting head and the adjoining solidified part of the strand on all sides and directly. A coolant layer is thus constantly located over the metal mirror during casting.
In order not to break through this coolant layer and hit the liquid pouring head, the melt is expediently below the liquid level of the metal, ie. H. fed inside the liquid casting head.
The casting and solidification of the casting can take place under pressure by keeping the coolant under pressure in the mold as long as it is around the liquid, solidifying and solidified casting.
The coolant can be applied from above to the liquid level and discharged downwards. The coolant can in this case by a device such. B. in the form of a shower, applied to the liquid Pie gel of the cast material in the mold. respectively be evenly distributed.
The entire rinsing resp. The casting strand in the mold can be encased in that the resulting casting contracts immediately after the liquid metal has been poured in as a result of cooling, creating an intermediate space between the casting head and the mold wall in which a layer of coolant can penetrate .
At the same time, the cast body can also be cooled from below by a specially supplied cooling liquid.
Substances can also be added to the coolants which act on the solidifying cast while it is solidifying. These effects can be used to refine the metal or to add components to the solidifying material.
The method and the device who explained below with reference to the drawing, for example.
Fig. 1 shows an example of a Giesseinrich device for continuous casting of metal strands.
Fig. 2 shows a special form of the mold.
Fig. D shows the resulting casting within the mold, completely surrounded by a layer of coolant.
Fig. 4 shows an arrangement for supplying the coolant under pressure, and Fig. 5 shows a specially designed mold wall.
In the figures, a is the mold with the cooling jacket BEZW. Refrigerator a '. b is the resulting cast body, c is the feed pipe for the liquid metal from a container into the mold.
d are, for example, the supply pipes for the coolant. During the casting process, the Giessflüs flows into the mold a at a temperature according to the implementation example of the method according to the invention,
which is not higher than 50 C above the melting point of the metal to be cast. After introduction, the cooling liquid flows through line d from the liquid pouring head between the solidifying metal and the mold wall downwards (Fig. 1).
If it is now ensured that exactly as much new cooling liquid flows in as flows out downwards, then the solidifying cast body is surrounded by the cooling liquid from above and from all sides, and this is ensured.
that not only is cooling from the sides and additional cooling from below (see cooling device e), but in particular the freshly entering 31e is constantly and evenly cooled from above and thus for very fast and even cooling provides ge over the entire cross section of the solidifying strand.
Of course, it is also possible to let the cooling liquid flow from top to bottom, using appropriate devices to hold the mold above the casting head in such a way that it penetrates from bottom to top, e.g. B. in an embodiment according to Fig. 2. According to this figure, the actual mold a is only of such a length as is necessary for solidification and guidance of the corresponding cast strand. The refrigerator compartment, however, extends further downwards.
The coolant penetrates from the cooling space a1, i. H. from the lower end of the mold wall, between the solidifying casting and mold wall upwards over the liquid casting head. In addition, there is a further direct cooling of the casting below the mold a in the cooling space a1 and an indirect cooling along the outer wall of the mold a in the upper part of the cooling space a1.
In cases in which the solidification of the metal or the type of casting process do not allow a uniform connection of the cooling liquid between the top and the bottom (liquid head and solidified casting), the coolant must be supplied from above and below, with the mold at its lower part for the purpose of uniform supply of the coolant similar to the implementation of Fig. 3 can be carried out.
In this case it is also necessary to remove the coolant or The cooling liquid is constantly supplied and discharged via the casting head, which can be done by appropriate supply and discharge lines <I> d </I> and <I> f </I> (Fig. 1).
If the cooling (acting directly on the casting) is to take place under pressure, which also enables the entire casting process to be carried out under pressure, d. H. If the coolant is to be supplied and removed from the mold in such a way that the coolant is constantly under the desired pressure, which, since the coolant surrounds the entire casting, is then transferred accordingly to the solidifying cast, a device according to Fig. 4 is required intended,
in which the upper space of the mold is sealed by a bell. In this case it is of course necessary to keep the inflowing metal under the same pressure as the coolant.
In Fig. 5 a mold is illustrated, which has openings through which the coolant flowing inside the cooling jacket can reach the casting directly and wash it.
The cooling devices according to the embodiments shown ge can BEZW apart from the normal cooling room. Cooling jacket a1 or a special cooling space respectively. have a special coolant line g or be set by such a cooling line. Zwe.ckmässigerweise the special cold rooms are located in the places where there is a need for cooling, e.g.
B. compared to the liquid casting head. The cooling spaces a1 and g can have the same or different coolants and these same or different pressures. So z. B. the cooling space a1 contained in the usual way Umlaufwas water, while the line g brings cooling water under pressure, which is injected against the Kokillenwandung.
Depending on the temperature of the cooling liquid, the rate of solidification of the resulting cast can be regulated. The coolants, which may be warmed up, warmed up, strongly heated or heated themselves, can consist of water (pure, hard or soft urea), colloidal solutions, saline solutions, acids, bases, liquids saturated with gases or other liquid or foamy Connections exist. According to the above, coolant is to be understood as any substance
which has a lower temperature than the melt to be cast; so in the sense of the above, for. B. aufzufas sen a heated to 500 or more 01 as a coolant, if. it is used to cool brass with a melting temperature of <B> 1000 '</B>. B. Water heated to 90 ° to cool an aluminum alloy with a melting point of 640.
