Commande <I>du disque.</I> - L'arbre 98a (fig.
L'arbre 138 passe à travers la portion supérieure 71 du coffret et comporte une poignée de ma noeuvre 1'39. Lorsque la poignée est dans la position neutre des fig. 1, 2 et 7, le bras 135 sert à maintenir le galet 130 soulevé, de sorte que le disque n'est pas entraîné;
<I>Disque et</I> fixation <I>de ce</I> disque. <I>-</I> Sur les fig.
<I>Dispositifs d'enregistrement et de repro-</I> <I>duction.</I> - .Sur les fig.
Ainsi que le montre la fig. 11, l'arbre de contrôle 135a passe à travers la cloison 103 et est porté par les parois extrêmes 106 et 107 de la console 10'5;
<I>Connexions des circuits de l'amplifica-</I> <I>teur.</I> - La fig.
On a constaté que, si on monte un tube à décharge contenant, par exemple, du néon ou de l'argon, comme l'indique la figure, lorsque le microphone reçoit des sons de très forte intensité;

As seen in Figs. 1 to 4, the different parts of the apparatus are mounted and supported in a suitable manner in a cabinet which has a rear wall 53, a bottom 54, a front wall 55 shorter than the rear wall, a top wall 56 with a downwardly directed portion 57 and end walls 58 and 59.
The upper wall is directed from top to bottom at 60 (fig. 1), so as to form a flat surface 71 if killed at a lower level and serving as a support for various control devices which will be described below.
Likewise, in FIGS. 1 and 2, the end wall 58 is lower than the end wall 59, and at its upper level is a narrow shelf or bracket 61, fixed to the rear wall 53 and extending horizontally, so as to form a support for a hinged block 62 fixed to it by screws 63.
A frame 64, comprising parallel arms 65 spaced apart from one another, and at the outer ends of which a graduated scale 66 is fixed, is hingedly mounted on the block 62 by supports 67 forming hinge pins.
To support the ladder, when it is tilted back on its hinges to insert a disc, a support arm 68, directed backwards, is fixed to the frame 64 and its lower end is bent, so as to for mer a support 69 which comes into contact and rests on the block 62, when the scale is returned back.
It is evident from fig. 2, that when the scale is returned back, a surface of a large extent is discovered at the top of the cabinet to introduce therein a phonogram support constituted by a thin and flexible disc 70, which will be described hereinafter.
We see in the same way in fig. 2. that the flat portion 71 of the top of the cabinet extends to 72 and ends in 73, so as to leave a free space between it and the front wall 55. This space forms part of an opening or slot 74 which extends over the entire length of the front of the box and serves as a store for discs which have been used or not.
The portion 72, which extends the top of the cargo box, also includes a window 76 through which passes a trigger 75 for operating an "open-close" switch 302 (see fig. 25) and also supports a control button. intensity setting 50.
The opening 74 passes between corner posts 77 which rest on the end walls, and over the entire length of this opening the front wall and the bottom are joined by a thin concave strip 78 which serves to guide the disc when it is put into the magazine.
The vertical portion of the store is delimited behind by a vertical wall 79, convex in shape towards its lower end and facing the strip 78, and which is fixed in front of a wide horizontal platform 80, which supports a electric motor 40 and other parts of the control mechanism, and extends to the rear wall 53. As can be seen more clearly in FIG. 8, the platform 80 is fixed and supported on a bar 81 of generally rectangular shape which extends across the entire length of the other end.
The end walls 58 and 59 of the cabinet are pierced with holes 83 allowing air to circulate and the heat, developed by the motor and an amplifier which will be described below, to dissipate. These perforated end plates are separated from the main solid portion of the cabinet -and are held in place by screws 84 and 85. When inserting a disc in the vertical position in the slot -or magazine 74, when its edge meets the concave strip 78, it slides along this strip and is guided in the horizontal portion 86 of the space or green between the platform 80 and the bottom wall 54 of the cabinet.
The fins of a fan 87 are wedged on the motor shaft, so as to create a circulation or current of air passing through the cabinet.
As can be seen more clearly in FIG. 4, a thin, curved, metallic sheet 88, having in cross section the shape of a turtle's back, serves to suitably support the disc 70 from below, the lower surface of which rubs against it. this support 88, when the disc rotates. The support 88 is supported forward, by its lower edge which rests on the curved portion of the strip 79, a spacer 89 serving to maintain these elements at a suitable distance from each other.
A piece <B> 90 </B> in the form of an angle iron çert to support the lower edge of the support 88 behind, a spacer 91 serving to, maintain it at an appropriate distance from the rear wall <B > 53. </B> The angle bar 90 is also used to support a device or seems to be an amplifier 92 which is supported near its front part by a strip 98.
As can be seen, the disc support 88 is approximately flat in the region of its apex and lower ends and curved approximately in a cylinder in the intermediate regions; along its top, it has a window 94 (fig. 2), which allows a pin 95 to pass for the disc. A bracket 97, fixed on the inner surface of the wall 79 and extending along its upper end, serves to partially cover the front portion of the support 88 of the disc: and its rear curved surface 96 is located at a sufficient distance from the element <B> 88 '</B> to leave a suitable clearance between them.
Drive <I> of the disc. </I> - The shaft 98a (fig. 6, 8, 10 and 11 <B>) </B> of the motor 40 carries a pulley 98, over which a belt 99 which is applied on a pulley 100 wedged in the vicinity of the end of a shaft 101 carrying at its inner end a drive wheel by friction or advancement roller 102, which is applied directly against the underside of the disc to rotate it.
A partition 103 extends across the cabinet in the vicinity of one of its ends and is pierced with a window 103e, through which the shaft 101 passes freely, which rests on a pair of bearing lugs 104, spaced apart. and integral with a support bracket 10.5, fixed, comprising two parallel end walls 106 and 107, directed towards the rear of the cabinet, one of which, the wall 106, rests against the partition 10 ' 3 and the other, the wall 107, is pierced with an opening 108, allowing a bar 109 to pass freely, integral with a carriage 109a of the disc.
As shown in fig. 7, the console 105 is supported by bars 1'1O with a <B> U, </B> profile located opposite one another and by a transverse bar 110a.
The disc carriage is guided by a pair of guide rods 51 and 52 (Fig. 8), one end of the bar 51 being supported in the end wall 10: 6 and the other in an end wall. arm 111a of a console 111, located near one end of the cabinet. The outer end of the rod 52 is supported by the console 111 and its inner end by the console 105.
The disc carriage comprises a frame 112, attached to the left end of the hollow bar 109 and a <B> 1.13 </B> arm directed downward and attached to the right end of the bar 109 ; a shaft 114 resting in the staves in the frame 112 and in the arm 113 and being threaded over its entire length between these staves.
As shown in fig. 4, the rod 52 passes through a notch 112a at the lower end of the frame 112 and. the rod 51, through a hole drilled in the vicinity of its top, so as to support and guide the frame, and the rod 51 also passes through a hole drilled in the arm 113 in the vicinity of its top, so as to support it and the gui der. In its hollow portion, the frame 112 serves as a housing for a toothed wheel 116 mounted on the shaft or screw 114 and meshing with a helical wheel 117 mounted on a spindle 95 for the disc.
At one of its ends, the frame 112 comprises two bases 118 on which are fixed by screws 120 the ends of a thrust element 1.19 arranged transversely. The end of the threaded shaft 114 has a shallow cavity in which a steel ball 121 rests which also bears against the element 119, so that the movement along its axis of the threaded shaft 114 is transmitted by the ball to the disc carriage.
To impart a movement along its axis to the threaded shaft 1.14, when the spindle of the disc and the gear wheels 116 and 117 cause it to rotate, an arm 122 is wedged on a shaft 123 which can receive a small rotational movement by a means described below, and the end of the arm 122 comprises a threaded portion 124 which can engage with the thread of the shaft 114. When these threads are engaged, the arm 122 acts as a nut fixed, causing the shaft 114 to move along its axis.
A coil spring 124a, fixed on the end of the arm and on a fixed pin 125, tends to bring the arm into engagement with the shaft 114 (see FIG. 7). A short window 126 (Figs. 7 and 8), drilled in the disc holder 88, allows the friction wheel 102 to protrude slightly to rest against the disc.
If we refer particularly to fig. 7, 8 and 11, we see that a frame 126a is mounted oscillating on shaft 127 and comprises a transverse bar 128a with spaced lugs 128 in which is mounted a shaft 129 carrying at one of its ends a friction roller 130, mounted so as to apply against the upper surface of the disc 70, directly above the roller 102.
This shaft is driven by a friction wheel 130, arranged so as to rest against the hub 101 ′ of the pulley 100, the peripheral portions of the wheels 102, 130 and 13.0 ′ preferably being made of rubber. An arm 131, curved as shown in fig. 7, is fixed on the bar 128a of the frame 126a and a coil spring 132 is attached by one of its ends to this arm and, by the other, to an ankle 133, carried by a bracket 134 fixed against the wall. back of the cabinet.
When it is not desired to rotate a disc, the parts are in the position of fig: 7, the roller 130 is raised above the disc and the wheel 130 'is not in contact with the control hub 101 '.
As can be seen, a vertical arm 135 is wedged on a shaft 135a which carries a toothed wheel 136 which engages with a toothed wheel <B> 1.37 </B> wedged on a vertical shaft 138 supported by the console 134 , fixed against the rear wall 53:
The shaft 138 passes through the upper portion 71 of the box and has a handle of my work 1'39. When the handle is in the neutral position of fig. 1, 2 and 7, the arm 135 serves to keep the roller 130 raised, so that the disc is not driven;
when the handle 139 is pushed either in the direction of the arrow f1 to record, or in the direction of the arrow f 'to reproduce (see fig. 2), the arm 13.5 rises as in fig. 20,
by allowing the spring 1 $ 2 to lower the wheel 130 'and maintain it in contact with the hub 101' and to strongly apply the roller 1130 against the disc which is then dragged by the rollers 102 and 130.
To allow the operator to easily stop a disc at any time, independently of the handle 13.9, an arm 140 directed upwards is fixed on the bar 12'8a of the frame 126a, and a button 141 (fig. 7), fixed to the end of a flexible wire 142 closed in an ordinary flexible sheath 142 ', is intended to come into contact with the arm 140. An arm 143, projecting on the internal pa king of the box, serves to support one end of wire 142.
The other end of the wire is attached to a plunger 144 terminated by a button 145, and which can fit into a housing 146 having a handle or trigger 147 and a sharp bayon notch 148. A compression spring 149, which rests against the bottom of the housing 146 and the end of the plunger 144, tends to push the wire 142 back into its outer position, allowing the roller 130 to rest on the disc. To stop the disc, it suffices for the operator to press the button 145, which has the effect of pushing the arm 140 back through the button 141, thus lifting the idler 130.
The bayonet notch 148 is cut in the housing 146, in which a lug 151 can be raised and slightly rotated when the operator wishes the roller 130 to remain raised for a certain time.
<I> Disk and </I> fixing <I> of this </I> disk. <I> - </I> In fig. 23; and 24, it is seen that the photographic support 70 has a circular or disc shape, made of a thin sheet of a material, such as preferably cellulose acetate, which is transparent. It has been found that, in using it in the apparatus, satisfactory results are obtained, with a sheet having a thickness of 0.12 mm for recording by means of a microphone, as well as for reproducing.
These discs need very little space to be stored, are very flexible and easy to insert and keep in the apparatus, as has been described previously. Before use, both sides of the disc are smooth, the sound groove is traced at the time of recording and has the effect of deforming or wrinkling the disc which thus ceases to be flat.
It has been found by tests to be advantageous to apply to the surface of the disk a thin layer of high melting point wax in a solution of carbon tetrachloride which dries very quickly; this layer serves as a lubricant for the style engraving the groove in the material of the disc. Or a layer of ethyl cellulose and wax can be employed which has the advantage that the wax is not easily rubbed off and that the heat given off during the recording operation serves to release the waxy lubricant. .
A paper disc 152 is glued to the top face of the disc 70 in the center and allows to write therein indications about the text recorded on the disc. The paper disc also serves to strengthen the disc in the area where it is attached to the spindle. As can be seen in FIG. 23, the label and the disc are pierced with a hole with several projections 153 directed inwards and giving it the appearance of a gear wheel.
The spindle 9.5 of the disc has a shoulder or flange 154 on which the center of the disc rests. Just above this rim is a series of grooves 155 into which the disc protrusions 153 penetrate, so as to directly transmit the rotational movement of the disc to the spindle 95. A hollow socket or cap 15.6 rests on it. the upper surface of the disk and is pierced with a hole at its upper part to allow the end of the pin, which has a smaller diameter than the grooved portion, to pass through.
A groove 157 is cut at this point in the pin - and serves as a housing for two metal balls 158, with a view to fixing a cap 159 to the end of the pin; each ball! is pushed by a lug 160 fixed to the lower end of a spring 161, the upper end of which is fixed to the cap by a screw 162. This arrangement makes it possible to easily remove the cap and a disc from the cap. brooch.
Cap 156 com has a conical head 159 at its upper end, the point or apex of the cone serving as a mark which indicates, in combination with the shaft 66 (fig. 2), the position of the text recorded on the disc. . The recording device forms a spiral-shaped sound groove <B> 163 </B> on the disc, in the manner described below.
It is not necessary to use the chain to hold the disc in place. The center hole in the disc is small enough that the disc is frictionally held against the leg 95. However, the cap provides a convenient, easy-to-remove locating element to make mounting and disassembling of the discs easier.
<I> Recording and reproducing devices </I> <I> <I> duction. </I> -. In fig. 15 to 22, it is seen that an application roller 164 rests against the underside of the disc 70 opposite a style 165 of a recording device 30 (see also Fig. 8). The roller 164 is mounted at the end of a shaft 166, rotatably supported in a bearing member 167, rotatably mounted on an axis 168, perpendicular to the shaft 166 and carried by a lug 169 of the console 105.
The shaft 166 has a groove (Fig. 21), into which engages a stud cut out at the end of a screw 170, and maintaining the shaft in a suitable position in the direction of its axis. The bearing 167 is pierced with a hole serving as a housing for an adjustment screw <B> 171 </B> which screws into a tapped hole in a lug 172 protruding from the console 105.
Cylindrical blocks of flexible rubber 173 and 174 are arranged under compression as shown in Fig. 21, so that by adjusting screw 171, the position of roller 164 can be slightly changed relative to the styling.
The roller 164 consists of alternating lamellae 175 and 176 of flexible rubber and steel held in place against a flange 166a by a screw 177 which screws into the end of the shaft 166 and the end of which widens. to form a large diameter head 177a cooperating with the adjacent disk 176. A <B> 178 </B> thrust ball sits in a slot cut out at the end of the screw and is
held in place by a spring 179; the end of which is fixed on the bracket 172, by a screw 180. The style can be applied to the disc just above one of the rubber strips <B> 175, </B> to trace the groove there sound, .the rubber allowing the underside,
as well as on the upper surface of the disc to deform under the action of the style which traces the groove. Fig. 22 shows on a larger scale the hollows of the groove on the upper surface corresponding to protrusions on the lower surface of the disc 70.
As shown in fig. 11, the control shaft 135a passes through the partition 103 and is carried by the end walls 106 and 107 of the console 10'5;
i! 1 still passes through a partition 18.2 arranged transversely on the top of the cabinet. The end of this shaft supports a cam device 183 (see also fig. 5) which determines the positioning of the recorder 30 and the reproducer 29.
The recorder 30 is supported in its vertical movement by two substantially parallel arms 184 and 18.5, which are joined to it by screws 186 and 187 and the rear ends of which are rotatably supported by screws 18.8 and 189, which are screwed into a protruding leg 188a -on the wall 182 (fig. 15 and 16) and into a leg 189a of a console 190, mounted on the wall 182.
The arm 184 carries a roller 190a which rests against a cam 191, forming part of the cam device 183 and comprising an ascending portion 192 which raises or descends the recorder and a rest portion 193 of great extent which it maintains in its lifting or non-operating position. The parallel support rods serve to keep the logger crew in a position parallel to itself while it is ascending or descending.
The reproductive equipment 29 is mounted so as to move in the vertical and lateral direction, because it is fixed at the end, of a lever 194, comprising an offset extension 195, and oscillating freely on a screw to shoulder 196, which screws onto the inner end of another lever 197, itself supported in rotation, so as to move from top to bottom and from bottom to top, on a cylindrical extension 198 (fi . 15) from its inner end, which is applied in. a hole drilled in a portion forming a hub of larger diameter 199 of the end of a third lever 200.
A vertical screw 201, passing through a hole drilled in the hub 199 and screwing into the fixed console 190, serves as a lateral bone support for the three levers. A spring 20'3 (fig. 17), one of the ends of which is fixed on a pin 204a of the hub portion 199 and the other on a fixed pin 204, tends to push the levers towards the cam device 183. The levers 197 and 200 also have end, offset portions 205 and 206, to which the ends of a spring 207 are attached.
The cylindrical extension or axis 19j8 -is held in place in the hub 199 by a screw 208 (fig. 15).
Fig. 5 shows more particularly the cam device 183, which comprises an axial cam with ascending portion 213 and rest portion 2-12 of great extent - and between this cam and the cam 191. There is another radial cam having two porches. large areas of rest 209 and 210 joined by ascending portions 211.
In fig. 15 to 18, it can be seen that the lever 200 carries a protruding lug 2.14 (fig. 15) in contact with the outer resting portion 212 of the cam device 183 and maintaining the breeder in its non-operating position. - operation, while the recorder is now free to descend to its operating position.
But if the cam device 183 is rotated counterclockwise from the position in fig. 16, the lug 214 descends along the inclined portion 213 of the axial cam, the raised rest portion 193 of the recorder control cam maintains the recorder in its upper non-operating position, while the reproducer> is brought into its position above the application roller 164.
During his. movement, the lever 194 is supported by the lever 197 whose end 205 directed upwards comprises a notch 215 in which the lever 194 rests (FIG. 13). At this time, the spring 20'7 serves to support the lever 197.
When the reproducing style is in place above the application roller 164, the upward portion 211 of the radial cam contacts a protruding lug 216 on the lever 197, the lever 200, having a notch 217 for let go of this, ergot.
The cam causes the lever 197 to descend, against the action of the spring 207, in the position of FIG. 14, by an amount greater than that required to lower the styling onto the disc, so that the front portion of lever 194 is no longer resting. in the checkmark 215, but, is free to move vertically, while the style rests hand-holding on the disc. Fig. 18 shows the reproducer and the parts combined with it in this position.
The operation described above is obtained by bringing the control handle 139 from its neutral position N to its reproduction position (fig. 2).
To return to the neutral position from the position of fig. 18, the control handle 139 is brought to its neutral position, thus turning the shaft 135a clockwise (fig. 18), which has the effect of making the lug 216 along the upward portion 211 of its control cam, under the action of the spring 207, thereby lifting the style above the disc.
The ascending portion 213 of the axial cam then comes into contact with the lug 214, so as to move the lever 200 and the reproducer 29 laterally out of the path of the recorder 30. Instead of stopping the handle control in its neutral position (N), it is possible to continue its movement, until it is stopped in its recorded position by a stop 218 (fig. 2). When moving the handle from its central position, the roller 190 therefore descends on the inclined portion 192 of its cam from the position of FIG. 18 and the recorder comes to its operating position, its style 165 resting on the disc.
Fig. 19 shows the recorder and the parts combined with it in this position.
In order to achieve a faithful sound recording in a stubborn material, it was found that it was necessary to use a recorder possessing considerable power to train the style and that a crystal of Seignette salt (potassium-sodium tartrate) was used. most effective agent for transforming the electrical energy of the amplifier output circuit into mechanical energy causing the style vibrations.
Therefore, amplifiers of this crystal type are preferably used for recording and for reproducing, and with such amplifiers, preference is given to a diamond style, having received a shape suitable for the grinding wheel.
It has also been found that background noise arises when the plastic recording disc is supported in front of the recorder or reproducer style by a hard metal surface and this noise can be suppressed, as well as the vibration due to the operation of the apparatus is not registered if an elastic cushion such as the application roller 164 is placed against the underside of the disk.
It has also been found that by supporting the disc so that the point where the recording takes place is in the state of tension, as will be described below in detail, the background noise is further reduced. . These two measurements are taken in the apparatus described above. The use of rubber rollers to drive the disc is important because it prevents the transmission of noise from the device to the disc material and the elasticity of the rubber allows for the difference in path <RTI
ID = "0008.0034"> surface of the disc during its spiral movement. The drive mode has the effect of giving the disc a constant speed at the time of recording, regardless of the diameter of the circle. Thus, with a disc, the important advantage of recording on a cylinder is obtained and the variations in the amplitude and frequency characteristics specific to recording on discs of other shapes are eliminated.
Another important feature of the embodiment described is that the recording begins in the vicinity of the center of the disc which is reinforced by the label and which is a zone of maximum resistance. The grooves are etched as the disc travels under the styling and serve to significantly increase the stiffness of the material in the transverse direction as the distance between the drive roller and the disc spindle increases.
By placing the recorder style slightly in front of the point of contact between the groove roller and the disc in the direction of rotation, satisfactory writing can be obtained in the lateral direction of the disc material, while if the point of the style is just above the roller from which it is separated by the disc; the engraving is limited by the edges of the groove dru pebble.
The groove is engraved in the material e4 takes the form of the diamond style without being influenced by the roughness of the walls of the groove which is imprinted on the back of the disc: This mode of operation is still favored because the disc continually moves away from drive rollers 102 and 180, creating tension in the disc and helping to support it.
To reproduce a recording, it is preferred to mount the amplifier style about 8 mm in front of the drive roller in the direction of rotation, the tension of the disc material being sufficient to support the reproducer, and no support is necessary. 'existing under the disk just below the style contact point. <I> Rollback device. </I> - When listening to a disc,
sometimes we want to hear part of this record again. The appliance has a rollback device that allows ironing in the style of one: three furrows.
Referring to figs. 1, 2 and 15 to 18, we see that a vertical shaft 2'17 emerges above the top of the box and carries a button 218 com bearing a mark 2.19 that can be brought in front of divisions 0, 1, 2 or 3 depending on the number of grooves on the disc that you want to hear again, the mark being normally opposite division 0. On the shaft 217 is wedged a cam 220 which is applied against a pin 221 capable of slide in a hole drilled in a tab 2.21a of the console 190.
When the reproducer 29 is in the operating position, as shown in, fig. 17 and 18, the end of the plug 221 is applied against the end of a screw 22.2 carried by the lever 200 in the vicinity of its lower end. By bringing the mark 219 in front of the division 1, we therefore rotate the eccentric 220 by about 60, and turn the lever 200 around its axis 2011 by an angle sufficient to make the style go backwards. a groove or spiral of the disc.
The spacing between the centers of the rubber sheets 175 of the application roller 164 matches that of two grooves on the disc, so that the reproducer style is now just above the next rubber sheet of the roller. As shown in fig. 15, the ends of the screw 222 and the plug 221 are not in contact when the breeder is in the non-operating position.
<I> Switching control. </I> - The automatic control of the switches of the amplifier, the reproducer and the recorder is carried out by the operation of the handle 139 which turns the shaft 135a as well as it was explained previously.
Referring to fig. 6, 9, 11 and 20, we see that the shaft 135a carries three arms spaced apart from each other 135, 223 and 224, the arm 135 allowing the roller <B> 130 </B> to be brought in:
contact with a disc, as explained above. The arm, 22,3 is in contact with an arm 225 wedged on the shaft 123, so that when the arm 223 rises or falls from the position of FIG. 6, the arm 122 lowers into.
the position of fig. 20, so that -its threaded portion 124 meshes with screw 114, so as to move the disc carriage, as has been -explained. The arm 224 carries a protruding peg 226 which rests against one side of a window 227 cut in the vicinity of the end of a switching control lever 228, mounted idle on 1.12-3.
The side faces of the window 22.7 are curved. outside downwards, as shown in fig. 6 dotted, to allow the shaft 135a to continue to rotate, after the complete movement of the lever 228.
A window 2'29 is cut in the vicinity of the lower end of the lever 22 28 and in this window penetrates a pin 23.0 fixed on an arm 231 wedged on the end of a switching shaft 324.
The parts are arranged so that, when the handle 139 is moved from the neutral position to the reproduction position, the town 226 moves the upper end of the lever 228 to the right (fig. 20), from which results for the pin 230, the arm 231 and the switching shaft 324 a movement towards the left, which has the effect of coupling the reproducer to the amplifier by circuit connections described below.
When the handle 139 is brought from the neutral position to the recording position, the upper end of the lever 228 (fig. 20) moves to the left and the arm 23: 1 as well as the shaft 324 move. to the right, thus connecting the recorder to the amplifier via the aforementioned circuit connections. <I> Amplifier circuit connections </I> <I> <I> tor. </I> - Fig. 25 is a circuit diagram showing the connections of the circuits of the apparatus.
The drive motor 40 is connected to an alternating current distribution line M by an "open-closed" switch 302, this line M also supplies amplifier tubes 335, 3'36 and 337 and a rectifier 301.
The rectifier 301 supplies direct current to the circuits of the amplifier tubes by a filter circuit of a known type comprising inductors 303 and capacitors 304.
The current corresponding to the sound to be amplified is applied to the terminals of the primary element 307 of an input transformer 306, the secondary winding 308 of which is connected to the grid and the cathode of the tube 335, as shown in the figure. figure.
This amplified current is transmitted by a resistance coupling of the plate circuit in tubes to the grill circuit of the next tube, resistors 309, 310 of the plate circuit of the tube 3315 being connected via a capacitor 311, d 'a line 312 and a resistor 313 on the grid and, the cathode of the tube 336.
A contact 314 movable along the resistor 313 serves to control the sound intensity by hand, thus allowing the operator to operate the apparatus at the sound intensity he desires to obtain the best results in the field. recording as well as reproduction. A resistor 315 and a capacitor 316 transmit the amplified current to the gate circuit of the tube 33.7,
while the current corresponding to the amplified sound or signal passes through the primary winding 318 of an output transformer 317.
As shown in the figure, the transformer 317 has three secondary windings 3, 19, 320 and 322, the winding 320 being connected through resistors 321 to the two electrodes of a neon tube 323 operating. as an automatic sound intensity control device, as will be described below.
One end of the secondary winding 322 is connected to one of the terminals of the recording device 30 via a resistor 343 and its other end to a switch contact 342 on which a blade can be applied. switch 327, carried by the switch control shaft 324.
The ends of the winding 31, 9 are connected to a pair of switch contacts 341, on which are applied the switch blades 325 also controlled by the shaft 324. The switch blades 3125 are applied. connected to the terminals, of a jack 326, in which you can insert plugs 331 or 332.
The jack plug 331, as shown, is joined to the ends of a telephone listening coil 333 and the plug 33'2 to a device 334 functioning either as a loudspeaker or as a microphone transmitter. . The high voltage terminal of the reproducing apparatus 29 is connected to a switch contact 344 on which a blade can be applied.
switch 328 also joined to the shaft 324; and which serves to complete the circuit: passing through the transmission line <B> 312 </B> in the position shown.
The switches being in the position shown, the sounds received by the microphone 334 can be recorded by inserting the plug 332 into the jack $ 26 after having closed the switch 302 by the trigger 75 of the "open-close" switch located on the top of the cabinet.
The current corresponding to the sound waves passing through the primary winding 307 is amplified by the tubes 335, 336 and 337 and transmitted to the recorder 30 by the secondary winding 322 of the output transformer 317 and the switch blade 327 The result is that the style of the recorder traces a groove in the disc corresponding to the sound waves. In forming the groove, the style only moves the ma Hère of the disc, that is to say that this material is not detached, as by a cutting action.
It has been found that, if we mount a discharge tube containing, for example, neon or argon, as shown in the figure, when the microphone receives sounds of very high intensity;
there is a gaseous or incandescent discharge in the tube, accompanied by a noticeable drop in the voltage applied to the recorder. On the contrary, low and medium intensity sounds do not generate sufficient voltage to discharge. occurs in tube 323, so that the total amplified voltage corresponding to these losses is applied to secondary winding 322 and to the recorder.
The discharge tube therefore serves to mimic the amount of energy applied to. the recorder, coming from extremely intense sounds, while that which corresponds to sounds. of low or medium intensity is not. not limited, but fully enforced.
To record a message transmitted over a telephone line, insert the <B> 331 </B> plug into jack 326 and place the coil 333 next to the line and inductively couple it with it as well. as close as possible. The currents induced in the listening coil are then amplified. and recorded as described above.
To reproduce the sounds recorded on a disc, we bring the. handle 139 in the reproducing position thereby bringing the reproducing style into contact with the disc and thereby rotating the shaft 324 clockwise. of a watch (fig. 25), which disengages the recorder 30. The switch blade 328 applying to the contact 344, causes the application of the output voltage from 29 to the grid of the tube. 336. The voltage is amplified in the tubes 336. And 337 and is transmitted to the terminals. switching 341. by the primary and secondary windings 318 and 319.
The switch blades 325 now being in contact with these terminals, the sounds, as they are reproduced, can be heard in the loudspeaker 334 whose plug 332 is, inserted in the jack 326.
It can thus be seen that the switching device is arranged so that three amplification stages are employed for the sounds to be recorded, while only two stages are employed for reproducing them. </B> It should be noted that the handle 139 not only brings the recorder or player into the operating position, but also makes the appropriate connections of the amplification circuit, to achieve the desired degree of amplification of the sound. recording or reproduction.
The intensity control arm 314 is actuated by means of a button 50 located on the top of the box and joined to this arm by a flexible transmission 232 (FIG. 6).
