Process for the preparation of alcohols of the acetylene series. It has already been proposed to produce alcohols of the acetylene series by reacting alkali compounds of acetylene with acetone, or that acetylene is reacted with alkali compounds of acetone, or that acetylene and acetone act on one another in the presence of metallic sodium, sodium alcoholate and sodium amide leaves. The alkali compounds of alcohols of the acetylene series are formed first, which must be converted into the free alcohols by treatment with water.
These known processes have the disadvantage that the reaction has to be carried out in the absence of water, because regardless of which starting materials are chosen, at least one of the reaction participants is always completely destroyed by exposure to water.
Sodium acetylide and water immediately form sodium hydrogen and acetylene; the acetone alkali compounds are decomposed by what water in acetone and alkali hydrogen; Sodium, sodium alcoholate and sodium amide are decomposed with the formation of sodium hydrogen and hydrogen, respectively. Alcohol and ammonia.
It has now been found that alcohols of the acetylene series can be produced directly from acetylene and acetone if acetylene is allowed to act on a mixture of acetone with an aqueous alkaline solution. The reaction then proceeds either with the formation of 2-methylbutyn-3-ol-2 according to the equation:
EMI0001.0029
or with formation of 2. 5-dimethylhexyne-3-diol-2_) according to the following equation:
EMI0002.0004
Mixtures of these are usually obtained with alcohols.
The alkaline solutions in which the reaction is carried out are expediently solutions of compounds of the Al kalimetalle in water, which react strongly alkaline, z. B. alkali metal hydroxides or aluminum potassium salts, for example trisodium phosphate or sodium or potassium carbonate or sodium triumphenolat or alkali salts of weaker organic acids. It is also possible to use aqueous solutions of hydroxides of the alkaline earth metals, for example those of calcium or barium hydroxide.
Of course, those alkaline reacting substances are less suitable that are capable of irreversible reactions with acetone.
The aqueous alkaline solutions can also contain organic solvents which mix with water, although the rate and course of the reaction are generally not changed by such additives. While it was necessary to use as much alkali metal, alkali alcoholate and alkali metal as the amount of the alcohol to be formed from the acetylene series, according to the invention, the implementation with catalytic amounts of alkaline reactants can be rendered according to the invention Carry out substances, that is, with a less than equimolecular amount based on the converted acetone.
For example, the amount of alkaline substance can only be 50, 25, 10 or 5 percent by weight of the acetone used.
The acetylene is expediently brought together with the mixture of acetone and the alkaline solution at higher pressure, for example in kites full?, :), 10, 1, 25 or 50 at. You can also use higher pressures, although you can expediently uses the acetylene in diluted form. because diluted acetylene is safer to handle than pure acetylene at higher pressures.
Mixtures of acetylene with inert gases are therefore often used. like nitrogen or noble gases. or arc acetylene, which is freed from higher acetylene carbon water.
The reaction is expediently carried out at moderately elevated temperatures, such as, for example, at temperatures above 50 ° C., for example between 70-1 (-1) 0 ° C., if the work is carried out under higher pressure Temperatures even higher than 1N) "C can be used, provided that the reaction then still takes place in the liquid phase.
Since the conversion of acetone into alcohols takes a little time, only part of the acetone will be converted under technical conditions. llan therefore works appropriately in a cycle. where part of the reaction liquid is branched off at a suitable point.
from it separates the mono- or di-alcohol or both and then returns the unreacted ace-a-ton. If the? -1Meth @ -l-hutin-3-o1-2 formed is also returned to the circuit, the yield can be reduced to 2. 5-dimethyl-3-diol-2. 5 still increase.
You can work up the unisetting mixture by neutralizing and fractionating; distilled. After the water and acetone have first been removed under normal pressure, the 2-methyl-butyn-3-ol-? also distill off under normal pressure. The 2 is distilled from the residue. 5-dimethylhexyne-3-diol-2. 5 expediently under reduced pressure (boiling point = 15 mm, 106-107 C).
The reaction mixture can also be worked up without neutralization by first aasgesalzt the alcohols together with part of the acetone, this mixture is separated from the aqueous layer or by acetone and alcohols of the acetylene series with organic niche, with a little water or extracted from immiscible solvents. The individual alcohols can then be obtained from the mixture of the alcohols with the acetone by fractional distillation.
The parts given in the examples below are parts by weight, unless otherwise stated. Example 1: A mixture of 3 parts by volume of acetylene and 1 part by volume of nitrogen is passed under a mixture of 800 parts of acetylene, 800 parts of water and 17 parts of potassium hydroxide at 95 ° C. in a stirred pressure vessel Pressure of 20 atmospheres. As the acetylene is used up, fresh acetylene is injected.
When no more acetylene is absorbed, it is allowed to cool and solid potassium carbonate is added. Two layers are formed, of which the upper one is distilled. This gives unchanged acetone, which can be used again, and 100 parts of 2-methylbutyn-3-ol-2. A mixture of acetone, water and potassium hydroxide of the above composition can also be circulated through a pressurized one. Direct tower. The implementation solution can then be worked up after leaving the tower in the manner described above.
Example 2: A mixture of acetylene and nitrogen is converted into a mixture of 800 parts of acetone, 800 parts of water and 30 ° C in the manner described in Example 1 at 100 ° C Parts of potassium hydroxide pressed in. After cooling down, the reaction mixture is saturated with carbon dioxide and then distilled under normal pressure. First one receives water and unchanged acetone and then 110 parts of 2-methylbutyn-3-ol-2. The residue is then distilled under 15 mm pressure, 42 parts of 2. 5-dimethylhexyne-3-diol-2.5 is obtained.
When recrystallizing from cyclohexane, crystals are obtained which melt at 9'8 ° C. The same amount of sodium hydroxide can be used in place of potassium hydroxide.
Example 3: A mixture of acetylene and nitrogen is pressed in the manner described in Example 1; Way at 95 G in a mixture of 880 parts. Acetone, 200 parts of water and 260 parts of a 7.7% strength aqueous solution of halium hydroxide. When working up the conversion mixture described in the case of 1. In the first place, a mixture of water, acetone and 100 parts of 2-methylbutyn-3-ol-2 is obtained, which is returned to the reaction, and then 24 parts of 2.
5-dimethylhexyne-3-diol-2 -5. Example 4: Acetylene and nitrogen are in the manner described in Example 2 in a mixture of 800 parts of acetone, 800 Parts of water and 30 parts of potassium carbonate are pressed. This gives 2-methylbutyn-3-ol-2, which is worked up in the manner described in Example 1.
Example 5: Acetylene and nitrogen are pressed in the manner described in Example 1 at 95 C into a mixture of 400 parts of water, 400 parts of acetone and 100 parts of trisodium phosphate (Na 3 PO 4. 12 H 2 O). The reaction mixture is worked up by distillation, 30 parts of 2-methylbutyn-3-ol-2 being obtained.
