Marschkompass.
Fig. I zeigt eine Seitenansicht desselben,
Fig. 2 die Draufsicht mit teilweisem Schnitt.
Marching compass.
There are. Marching compasses are known that have a magnetic needle box equipped on both sides with a transparent bottom, which is rotatably mounted in a plate provided with a rear sight or a diopter and is provided with a direction indicator visible from below, such that the compass is turned over with the help on the bottom The cardinal direction markers attached to the plate can also be used to lay out on a map. The turning of the compass required for this, however, makes handling cumbersome and easily leads to inaccuracies in the determination.
The subject of the invention is a marching compass in which this disadvantage of the known arrangement is avoided in that the compass housing containing the magnetic needle and the wind rose and a dial provided with a direction indicator are rotatably mounted next to one another in a common plate and are thus coupled to one another that the rotation of one part is inevitably transmitted to the other part.
An exemplary embodiment of the marching compass according to the invention is shown in schematic form in the drawing.
Fig. I shows a side view of the same,
Fig. 2 is a plan view with partial section.
In the plate 1, the compass housing 2 and the disk 3 are each mounted rotatably about their axis next to one another. In the compass housing, the magnetic needle 4, swinging about its axis of rotation, and the solid-walled and opaque compass rose disc 5 rigidly connected to the housing, with an adjustment mark 6 consisting of two adjacent points or the like, are to be taken into account the respective magnetic declination.
The disc 3 is installed directly in the plate 1 versent and has a circular base plate 9 and a graduation ring 7, the respective setting of which is attached to the plate 1 A setting mark 8 can be read. The base plate 9 of the disc 3 is transparent and trÏ two facing the march target. arrows 10 forming a directional indicator.
It is left in its center by a diametrically Opened ufenden slot 11, the edges of which allow the application of a pencil for the purpose of recording the direction on the map. Instead of being transparent and being designed as a full circular disk, the base plate 9 can, for example, also be designed only as a semicircular disk.
The compass housing is rigidly connected to a gear 12, the disk 3 also to a gear 13. Both gearwheels mesh directly with one another and have the same diameter and the same pitch, so that when the compass housing is rotated, for example by touching something the protruding fluted edge 14 can be brought about, the disk 3 is also rotated by the same angular measure.
The plate 1 is provided along its one longitudinal edge with indications N to the north and along the opposite edge with indications S to the south, while notched sight lines 15 and 16 are provided in the longitudinal axis of the plate, ie in the east-west direction . The left side of the plate is designed as an arrow to indicate the direction to be taken. The arrangement of the housing 2 and the disc 3 in relation to one another is such. that with the disk 3 set with the slot 11 to the mark 8, the X-S direction of the compass rose coincides with the line 15-16.
If the direction of march is to be determined with the help of a map, the KompaB is placed on the non-oriented map with the tip of the plate pointing to the left so that its two long edges coincide with the east-west line of the graduation of the map. The slot 11 of the disc 3 is then set precisely in the desired direction of travel with respect to the map by rotating the compass housing.
In the example shown, this is the N-W direction. If this setting is to be made known to third parties, this can be seen in a simple manner by specifying the number of divisions of the division 7 opposite the mark 8.
If the direction of march is to be determined in the field, the compass must be swiveled until the compass needle points in the north direction or in the direction of the previously set declination. The line 15, 16 then easily indicates the direction of march. the tip 16 pointing in the direction to be taken.
