Device for controlling the weight of a bee hive. The present invention relates to a device for controlling the weight of a bee hive, characterized in that it comprises a frame intended to support said hive, two elements of this frame each taking support from at least one spring and controlling the rotation of an axis at one of the ends of which are arranged at least two needles intended to be moved, during variations in the weight of the hive, facing a dial fixed to the frame and provided with 'a gra duation.
The accompanying drawing shows, by way of example, an embodiment of the object of the invention.
Fig. 1 is a plan view thereof, FIG. 2 is an elevational view thereof, and FIG. 3 is a partial enlarged view of the axis.
The device shown comprises a frame consisting of two metal tubes 1 and 2, longitudinal, the corresponding ends of which are, on the one hand, connected by bars 3 and 4 and, on the other hand, fixed to fixed bases 5 and 6 connected by a metal plate 7. On said bases are fixed two pairs of coil springs 8 and 9 supporting two elements 10 and 11 connected by two rods 12 and 13 substantially at the same level as the bar 3, and on which one hive 14 is supported; the result is that the height position of the elements 10 and 11 -is in relation to the weight of said hive.
The plate 7 is provided with a support 15 to which is fixed a disc 16 having a graduation 17, this disc being crossed at its center by an axis 18 pivoting in the support 15 carrying the three needles 19, 20 and 21 capable of being displaced opposite the disc 16. The needle 19 is fixed to the axis 18 and comprises a curved point intended to move the needles 20 and 21; these are adapted to the axis 18, so as not to be driven by the latter. The curved tip of needle 19 moves needle 20 in one direction as the weight of the hive increases; it moves the needle 21 in the opposite direction when the weight of the hive decreases.
Each of the elements 10 and 11 respectively actuates by means of tenons 22 and 23 one of the ends of the levers 24 and 25; these are respectively pivoted to links 26 and 27 articulated to the corresponding bases 5 and 6 of the frame.
The free ends of the levers 24 and 25 are connected by a link 34 to which is attached one end of a chain 35 wound around the axis 18, the other end of this chain being hooked. at one of the ends of a lever 28, pivoted to an angle bar 29, screwed onto the plate 7; the other end of the lever 28 is provided with counterweight 30. The chain 35 is, in its median part, connected by the intermediate of a pin 31 to the axis 18; it follows that a variation in the weight of the hive 14 causes a displacement of the elements 10 and 11, the latter causing the levers 24 and 25 to oscillate, which in turn control the. axis rotation 18.
Chains 32 and 33 each connect the bases 5 and 6 to the corresponding elements 10 and 11 and hold the latter against the springs 8 and 9 when no beehive is placed on the frame.
The device shown allows. to control daily the contribution of honey by the bees of a hive, as well as the reduction of this one, or even the departure of a swarm.
It is possible to provide a device having a frame of which each pair of coil springs would be replaced by a single spring, and of which the axis 18 would only carry two needles.
