Process for the preparation of 4-ethyl-ö-oxyäthylthiazole. The main patent relates to a process for the production of 4-methyl-5-oxyäthylthiazole. The present patent is a process for the preparation of 4-ethyl-5-oxyethylthiazole. The process is characterized in that the ethyl propyl ketone,
whose propyl radical on the carbon atom in the a-position to the keto group contains an exchangeable substituent and a terminal group which can be saponified to form hydroxyl, with salts of hydrofluoric acid to form the 2-oxy-4-ethyltbiazole, which in the 5-position has one of the above marked,
.To hydroxyl saponifiable group-containing ethyl radical, converts and that the hydroxyl group in the 2-position is replaced by a phosphorus halide by halogen and the latter by treatment with a reducing agent by hydrogen and the saponifiable group in said ethyl radical to the hydroxyl group saponified.
The group which can be saponified to form the hydroxyl group is, for example, an ester group, e.g. B. the group -O-CO-CHs or the group -0-C0- The condensation to the thiazoles takes place

expediently in the presence of a solvent or thinner such as water,
Alcohol and Ace ton and using the alkali or alkaline earth metals of the rhodanic acid. The ketorhodanides initially formed with precipitation of a metal halide can be condensed to the thiazole by treatment with strong acids such as hydrohalic acid and sulfuric acid.
The 4-ethyl-5-oxyethylthiazole obtainable in this way is obtained as a thick, colorless oil of caps 127-128. It should be used as a raw material for the manufacture of chemical products.
Example: 9.7 g of 1-oxy-4-oxo-hexane with a bp 85 to 880 (produced by condensation of the sodium compound of 3,5-diketoheptane with ethylene bromide to form 4- [s-bromoethyl] -3,5-diketoheptane and saponification of the latter by boiling with 5% hydrochloric acid, whereby bromine is replaced by hydroxyl and the one propionyl residue is split off)
are benzoylated with 17 g of benzoyl chloride and 26 ems of 5N sodium hydroxide solution at 20-30. The 1-benzoyloxy-4-oxo-hexane obtained has the Kps 154-155.
14 g of this compound are mixed with 9 g of bromine in 50 cms of ether at 00.00. The solution, washed with water, is allowed to drop at 35-400 to 10 g of rhodanbarium in 30 cubic meters of alcohol. After 15 hours, water is added, the rhodanide is taken up in ether, washed with water, dried over calcium chloride and the ether is evaporated. The 1-benzoyloxy-3-rhodane-4-oxo-hexane obtained in this way is added dropwise at 0-10 ° to 30 ems of concentrated sulfuric acid, the solution is poured onto ice and extracted with ether.
After the ether has evaporated, the 2-oxy-4-ethyl-5-benzoyloxyethylthiazole remains as a thick oil. 11 g of this compound are refluxed for 1 / s hour with 40 cm 'phosphorus oxychloride, the excess phosphorus oxychloride is evaporated off under reduced pressure, decomposed with water and ammonia and extracted with ether. After evaporation of the ether, the crude 2-chlorine compound is dissolved in 30 ems of glacial acetic acid and 6 g of zinc dust is introduced at 90 to 1000 times.
It is heated in a boiling water bath for 1 / 2h hour, poured into water, extracted with ether, washed with sodium carbonate solution and the ether evaporated. The crude 4-ethyl-5-benzoyloxyethyl-thiazole thus obtained is boiled for 1/2 hour in 20 cm3 of alcohol with 20 cm- '30% sodium hydroxide solution to split off the benzoyl group. After acidification with dilute hydrochloric acid, the alcohol is removed with steam,
the residue is saturated with potassium carbonate and extracted with ether. After evaporation of the ether, 4-ethyl-5-oxy-ethylthiazole is obtained as a thick, colorless oil of cap 127-1280.
