<I>Beispiele:</I> 1. 168 Gramm Dicyandiamid (2 Mol) -erden in 450 cm' 40%igen Formalins (6 Mol) gelöst.
Man erhält stark durchscheinende, mechanisch ausserordentlich stabile Presslinge.
Door travel for the production of a condensation product. The present invention relates to a process for the production of a pulverulent, easily melting in the hot press and rapidly hardening condensation product from dicyandiamide and formaldehyde.
The new process consists in bringing 1 mole of dicyandiamide and 2.75 to 3.5 moles, expediently 3 moles, of formaldehyde, for example at boiling point or below temperatures, to act for alkaline condensation, and then to the end formation of a clear, leather-like jelly resp. one that can be precipitated by water,
hydrophobic resin can act. After washing, drying and grinding, a powder is obtained which, optionally after the addition of the known filler substances, can easily be pressed into light-colored objects which are extremely resistant to boiling water. It has already been proposed to produce condensation products from dicyandiamide and formaldehyde by using the two components in a ratio of 1:
1 or 1: 2 can act on each other at temperatures below the boiling point. However, only hydrophilic resins are obtained by this process; H. In contrast, solutions from which the resin can only be obtained by evaporation. go to the method according to the present invention, which enables the direct production of a hydrophobic resin.
The acidic condensed resins also differ significantly in their chemical composition from those produced in an alkaline medium, since in the presence of acid the dicyandiamide is saponified to dicyandiamidine, which, as a strong base, binds the acid. The acidic condensation products therefore contain ever larger amounts of the products of the reaction between formaldehyde and the salts of dicyandiamidine, in contrast to that produced according to the present process,
in which a saponification to dicyandiamidine cannot occur.
It has also been proposed to condense 1 mole of dicyandiamide with 1.0 to 2.5 moles of form aldehyde at the boiling point until a hydropliobes resin separates out on cooling the reaction mixture. However, the resin obtained in this way is extremely sensitive to hot water, in contrast to the product made according to the present patent, which is very resistant to hot and even boiling water.
It has also already been proposed that the reaction between dicyandiamide and formaldehyde be carried out in the presence of substances that split off hydroxyl ions, in order in this way to reduce the water sensitivity of the condensation products. This measure also does not have the desired success.
The detailed undertaking of the reaction between dicyandiamide and formaldehyde showed that the 1 molar ratio of the components acting on each other, to which only a very subordinate role has been assigned in all the processes cited so far, in the case of the alkaline condensation is of crucial importance for the water resistance of the condensation products.
The best results were obtained when using 3 moles of formaldehyde to 11o1 of dicyandiamide. If you go down with the amount of form aldehyde, the water resistance decreases; if you increase it, you get hydrophilic resins that can only be isolated by evaporation. The lower limit is about 2.75 mol, the upper limit about 3.25 31o1 formaldehyde.
The water resistance of the products manufactured in this way is so great that the small remaining water-sensitive portion can be removed by hot water without the main amount of the resin being attacked, even before the final liver flow in the hot press to the highest degree of polymerization.
Tests have shown that in order to obtain condensation products of formaldehyde and dicyandiamide that are stable at boil it is advisable to remove the small amount of low polymer content still contained in the galley by treating with hot water, possibly with the addition of sodium sulfite, before drying.
Condensation accelerators can be added to the reaction mixture and filler and dye, flux and hardening accelerator can be added to the resin in a known manner. The shelf life can be increased in a known manner by adding fillers such as wood flour, cellulose, cotton, etc.
The reaction can be carried out at the boiling point or at temperatures below this. In the latter case, the alkaline reaction can be produced by adding an alkali.
<I> Examples: </I> 1. 168 grams of dicyandiamide (2 mol) earths dissolved in 450 cm '40% formalin (6 mol). The solution is kept at the boil under reflux for 21 1/2 hours. When he reaches the boiling point, the solution becomes alkaline by itself; It is then polymerized in the #N'asser bath at <B> 80 '</B> C until a clear, leather-like jelly is formed. The jelly is crushed and left in the drying cabinet at 100 to 110 C until a sample of the resin quickly hardens in the hot press.
After this time, the total amount is finely ground and slurried with water. The excess formaldehyde and the water-sensitive components go into solution. After suction filtration and washing, it is dried in a vacuum at room temperature. The powder obtained in this way can be quickly pressed in the hot press at about 140 C to form colorless, clear and completely water-resistant objects. Z. 504 grams of dicyandiamide (6 moles) are dissolved in 1350 cm '40% formalin (18 moles).
After boiling for 3½ hours on the reflux condenser, 180 grams of cellulose are introduced and polymerized for about 25 hours in a water bath at 80 ° C. Further treatment is carried out according to Example 1. This gives highly translucent, mechanically extremely stable pellets.
