Spark plug. On the spark plugs of the previous type, the system for generating the igniting spark consists of a center electrode and one or more side electrodes. The former usually consists of a pin about 2 millimeters in diameter, the latter usually consists of wire and is arranged on the edge of the mass body in such a way that there is a small, narrow spark gap between the end part of the wire directed towards the center electrode and the center electrode is.
In practice, it has been shown that this construction with a small zone of the spark gaps limited to the end of the pin-shaped center electrode sometimes results in insufficiently effective spark formation, or this is even prevented entirely as soon as an oil or soot build-up forms here .
Furthermore, the spark plugs of the previous design between the insulator and the mass body have a cavity from the spark gap upwards in which the exchange, mixing and combustion of the explosive gas mixture can only take place incompletely, so that this gap favors the accumulation of soot . However, as a result of sintering, this ultimately becomes conductive for the high-voltage ignition current, forms a short-circuit connection here, and thus causes the spark plug to fail.
The spark plug according to the present invention differs from the type mentioned above in that the insulator enclosing the shaft of the central electrode fills the mass body up to its lower edge part, thereby avoiding the cavity which is favorable for the accumulation of soot.
Furthermore, in the present new construction, the center electrode is not a simple pin, as mentioned at the beginning, but is disc-shaped, for example with a round, jagged or polygonal edge, and the previous, just mentioned, separate wire-shaped The side electrodes protruding from the edge of the mass are completely superfluous here. These are known to be slightly glowing under high stress and thus be permanent ignition.
The accompanying drawing illustrates an embodiment of the subject matter of the invention.
1 is a view from above, FIG. 2 is a longitudinal section and FIG. 3 is a view from below of a spark plug according to the invention. In the figures, a is the usual clamping screw for the power connection, b is the isolator, d is the mass body and dr is the lower edge part, c is the so-called stuffing box and e is the center electrode.
As can be seen from FIG. 2, the insulator b, as described, fills the cup body d up to its lower edge part dr. The disc-shaped center electrode e here is designed in terms of shape and diameter in such a way that an annular space f, delimited by this edge part, the insulator b and the edge of the center electrode, is formed all around against the edge part dr acting as a ground electrode there are an infinite number of sparks and in which the ignition sparks can develop freely depending on the power supply.
The stuffing box c has, as usual, to press and seal the insulator in the socket body: the sealing rings used for this purpose are. because also known .. not shown in the drawing.
