Description

  - Additional braking device to be attached to the brake block of a bicycle. The block brake, which is simple in structure, is still often used on bicycles as a brake organ for the front wheels. Since the braking effect that can be achieved with these brakes is usually insufficient, the drivers only use them in emergencies.

This type of braking has the disadvantage that not only the brake lining of the block (b in Fig. 2 of the accompanying drawing), but also the tread of the bicycle tire, which the glotz presses on when braking, is subject to wear and tear.

These disadvantages mentioned are to be eliminated by the additional braking device described below, which can be retrofitted to any bicycle with a pad brake. It can be achieved that, depending on the coupling of the braking device to the block brake, the braking effect no longer acts on the tire, but on the wheel rim or on both together, whereby reliable braking is achieved.

The drawing illustrates an exemplary embodiment of the subject matter of the invention. It shows: FIG. 1 a side view of the brake, FIG. 2 a front view of the brake, FIG. 3 the arrangement of the brake on the front wheel of a bicycle, FIG. 4 a schematic representation . A cross member c is clamped to the brake rod s of the block brake by means of the adjusting screw e. To the left and right of this traverse a rod m is articulated by means of a bolt a.

To the bearing bolts g, which are to be attached to the front fork of the bicycle pipe clamps k, the two brake levers n are rotatably arranged; which wear the brake lining j at one end, while at the other end they are articulated to the levers n by means of the bolt f.

If the brake lever (x, in Fig. 3) is now pulled up by the driver, the brake rod s is in the direction of the arrow (Fig. 2) and with it the. Traverse c moved down. As a result, the brake shoes j of the brake lever n rotatable about the stationary Bol zen g are pressed like pliers against the rim z of the front wheel via the two rods m. When the brake lever x is released, the brake rod s is pushed up by the usual spring, not shown in the figure, and thus the brake shoes j are pivoted back from the rim z.

Depending on the setting of the traverse c on the brake rod s, it can be achieved that only the brake shoes j alone come into effect, or that at the same time the brake pad h attached to the brake rod s presses on the tire of the wheel, thereby increasing the braking effect.
