B. Lino leum, plastische Massen usw. dienen.

Process for making a pigment. The present invention relates to a process for the preparation of a pigment, characterized in that an aminotriazine-aldehyde condensation product is used as the dye carrier.
It has been found that the aldehyde condensation products of aminotriazines, as described, for example, in Patent No. 193630 and its additives, can be used advantageously as dye carriers in the manufacture of pigments.
The formaldehyde condensation products of 2,4,6-triamino-1,3,5-triazine (melamine) have proven to be particularly interesting, but other aminotriazine condensation products mentioned in the above patent, for example, can also be used, such as the formaldehyde condensation products of 2-chloro-4. 6-diamino-1. <B> 3. '</B> 5 - triazine, from 2-oxy-4,6-diamino-1 .3.5-triazine (Ammeline),
furthermore 112elam, 1bZelon etc.
Also condensation products of aminotriazines and aldehydes with other condensable substances such as phenol, urea, aniline, alcohol, etc., or mixtures of aminotriazine-aldehyde condensation products with condensation products of the phenol, urea or amine resin type, Synthetic and natural resins of various kinds, etc. can be used.
For the application of the present invention, aminotriazine condensation products of the most varied condensation levels are suitable, namely in soluble to insoluble form, the physical state being low to highly viscous, liquid, gelatinous or rubbery to solid. Real or colloidal solutions in water or organic solvents such as alcohol, etc. can be used. Condensation products, which are insoluble in water or, thanks to their basic nature, are soluble in concentrated or aqueous acids with salt formation, can also be used.
The curable condensation products are particularly suitable, as they allow completely insoluble, in particular water-insoluble pigments to be obtained, which do not release the dye even in boiling soapy water.
Soluble or insoluble dyes of the most varied types can be used to carry out the process. The combination of the coloring substance finely with the aminotriazine condensation products can take place through chemical and physical processes. A great many soluble dyes combine with the aminotriazine condensation products directly to form insoluble pigments when they are added under suitable conditions.
This union can evidently take place here by adsorption or also by chemical reaction in the sense of laking. Insoluble coloring substances, on the other hand, are usually fixed by covering them with the aminotriazine condensation products.
The well-known pigment colors such as gas black, Berlin blue etc. come into question here, with which pigments can be produced that are characterized, for example, by their transparency when they are rubbed in (il. The most diverse groups of artificial and natural dyes, e.g.
acidic dyes, basic dyes, sulfur or vat dyes. For example, they can belong to the azo, indigo, tliioin (ligo, anthraquinone, triphenylinetliari, azine or oxazine, azometliine, nitro, stilbene, etc.) series.
Intermediate dyestuff products in a soluble or solubilized form can also be used.
At some stage in the process. before, during or after the combination with your 'coloring substance, the hardening or Insolubilization of the condensation product used take place. Curing can take place in a neutral, acidic or basic medium and in the presence or absence of solvents. It can be very accelerated by applying heat. In practice, a combination of these factors is usually used.
The possibilities for carrying out the present method are very diverse. The to be varnished respectively. dye to be enveloped respectively. Color bodies can for example be in the form of the solution. colloidal solution or suspension are mixed with the aminotriazine condensation product, the latter in the form of a solution, liquid or paste.
After a homogeneous distribution has been achieved, the colored carbon dioxide can be made insoluble by a subsequent hardening treatment, usually in the heat.
In the case of soluble dyes, adsorption usually occurs. Reaction and enveloping, in the case of insoluble pigments usually a union only through enveloping (learn aniinotriazine condensation product.
The reaction product, which is finely ground and thus converted into a color pigment, is characterized by its original solubility in hot water, usually even in boiling soapy water, and also in petrol.
Glue solution and other well-known binders and binders. If in the present case it is in aqueous solution, then the aminotriazine ionization product can precipitate as the hardening progresses and can be absorbed by adsorption as well as by chemical reaction or coating with your dye. Unite color bodies.
In this case, hardening is then advantageously connected after the water has been removed. In this way, particularly easily pulverizable pigments are obtained.
But you can also cure the aminotriazine condensation product first in the presence or absence of water or solvents in stages. Padureh's affinity for soluble dyes increases to a maximum and then decreases again. If such a product with a high affinity for the dye to be treated is suspended in a solution of this dye, it absorbs the dye from the solution by adsorption and exhausts the bath, like wool pulls an acidic wool dye out of its bath.
So this method is suitable for soluble dyes.
Since the degree of affinity of the various dyes for a certain aminotriazine condensation product can be different depending on their chemical nature, there is the possibility of influencing the affinity of the condensation product itself by simple additions. It has been found that when using basic condensation additives which can react with the triazine product, the affinity for dyes containing acidic groups is very greatly increased.
Conversely, the addition of acidic substances which can react with the aminotriazine condensation product improves the affinity for basic dyes very strongly. This method of increasing the affinity can of course also be used for the method described above of the simultaneous curing treatment of dye and condensation product.
The production of the pigments according to this application can also be in the presence of the known pigments. Additives customary for color lacquer production methods are carried out. For example, aluminum hydroxide, green earth, tannic acid, rosin, tartar emetic, barium sulfate, calcium sulfate, zinc oxide, zinc sulfide, titanium oxide can be used, some of which increase the opacity of the colored lacquer and reduce the price.
The pigments obtainable according to the present process are generally characterized by great luminosity and resistance to boiling water and even hot soapy water. In some cases there is an improvement in the light fastness. They can be represented with a high dye content and as a result are very extensive.
Depending on the dye used, their density is usually around 1.1 to 1.6 compared to 2.8 for green earth, 2.4 for aluminum hydroxide and 4.4 for barium sulphate pigments. This low density means that when rubbed in oils or other binders, they settle much less than the inorganic-based pigments. You can use as dyes for the oil and glue paints of the paint industry, for the production of printing inks for the graphic industry: letterpress, wallpaper printing, etc., for dyeing all kinds of synthetic materials, such. B. Lino leum, plastic masses, etc. are used.
<I> Example 1: </I> a) <B> 12.6 </B> parts by weight of 2.4.6-triamino-1.3.5-triazine are mixed with 40 parts by volume of neutral, 32 percent by volume aqueous formaldehyde on the boiling water bath dissolved with stirring. _ .In the colorless solution, containing about 25 parts by weight of condensation product, 500 parts by volume of an approximately 80 'hot aqueous solution of a dye, e.g.
B. 6 parts by weight of cloth in brilliant red 2B (Schultz, color tables, VII. Ed., II. Vol., Page 221), cast. Then 10 parts by volume of 1.0% strength sulfuric acid are added, whereupon a strongly colored hydrophobic resin is quickly deposited, which is first soft and then soon grainy and sandy.
After a drop of the solution on filter paper no longer gives any colored spillage and thus shows the exhaustion of the colored varnish, it is left to cool overnight and the resin is wet-ground in the ball mill. The insoluble color body formed is filtered off, washed well and dried and hardened for 4 hours at 140 '. The finished product is easily friable and the yield is around 80 to 955V0 of the starting materials.
b) Instead of the unlimited water-soluble aminotriazine-formaldehyde condensation product used above, one of limited water solubility can also be used with similar success, which results from the former easily by heating for about 12 hours on the water bath, with a sample give a white filling with four times the volume of cold water. 40 parts by weight of this are used, corresponding to about 0 parts by weight of dry substance.
The following table mentions the manufacture of a number of pigments as can be obtained from dyes of the most varied classes of dyes according to this specification. This includes the condensation product mentioned in the first paragraph. denotes the condensation product described in the second section with b.
The table below shows that highly concentrated color pigments can be produced which practically do not bleed even in boiling water or even boiling soapy water.

Most pigments are about the same lightfastness as the soluble dyes used. In a number of these, the lightness is increased compared with the soluble dyes used.
Example <I> 2: </I> 5 parts by weight of Alizarin Sapphire Blue B 250% (Schultz, Dye Tables VII, Edition No. 1187 or 1 part by weight of Eosin J No. 881 or 1 part by weight of Solid Green JJO No. 760 are each dissolved in a little hot water and mixed with 20 parts by weight of a dry aminotriazine-formaldehyde condensation product which is obtained by evaporating the solution described in Example 1b in vacuo (powder I).
The solutions are kept in a thin layer in the drying cabinet for 5 hours at 140 ° C, whereby the products become insoluble and the dyes bind. The foamy, glassy-hard products are crushed and ground in a ball mill with several times the weight of water for 4 to 5 days, then suction filtered and finally dried at 80 for 4 hours. Examination of the pigments obtained gives the same picture as in Example 1: They do not bleed in water or in boiling 3 / o "strength soap solution and are approximately the same lightfastness as the soluble dyes used.
<I> Example 3: </I> 100 parts by weight of the dry formaldehyde condensation product of 2.4.6-triamino 1 <B> .3. </B> 5-triazine (powder I) used in example 2 are cured for 2 hours at 120 'and ground fine in a ball mill (powder II). 2 parts by weight of each of the following dyes are now dissolved in 4-500 parts by volume <B> 70 '</B> warm water and 8 respectively. 12 parts by weight of the above powder II were added with stirring.
After 1/2 hour the leak is checked on filter paper and, if it is not already colorless, 10 parts by volume of 10% sulfuric acid are added. If a colored run-off is still obtained, further powder II is added and finally left to cool overnight, filtered off, dried and post-cured at 120 for another 2 hours.

To this resin solution (1.75 parts by weight of direct sky blue greenish (Sebultz aa 0. No. 51 (1), dissolved in 15 parts by volume () a, "(") in alcohol) are added. There are still some parts by volume of formic acid added, whereupon a colored resin precipitates.
The whole thing is dried for 2 hours in a drying tank at 1- (15 "and then ground. 3, (- 15 parts by weight of a deep dark blue pigment (read not a trace in boiling water noeli kochewlem soapy water of i" / ,, "expires.
Example <B> 122.6 </B> parts by weight 2.4.6-triamino-1.3. 5-triazine is mixed with 40 parts by volume of 32% by volume formaldehyde solution, which has been neutralized against salmon butter, and dissolved in the boiling water bath while stirring.
Then a finely grated paste of 5 parts by weight of indanthrene blue R (Schultz aa 0. No. 1228) in 15 parts by volume of water is added and the reaction continues on the water bath until a sample that has been taken out, diluted with 1 part by volume of water, gives a precipitate, which is the case after about 1 hour. It is then dried for 3 hours at 95 ° in a drying cabinet and then hardened for 5 hours at 140 'and finally ground to a fine powder. There will be 22.4 parts by weight of a deep blue light and water-resistant pigment he keep.
<I> Example </I> 20 parts by weight of the water-soluble triaminotriazine condensation product (powder I) described in Example 2 are dissolved in 60 parts by volume of hot water and poured into a fine slurry of 10 parts by weight of titanium dioxide in 1000 parts by volume of water. Another 30 parts by volume of 10% hydrochloric acid are added and the mixture is condensed on a boiling water bath for 1 hour. It is then neutralized, creating a thick precipitate. After cooling, it is ground wet, suction filtered and then air-dried.
There who received the 27.2 parts by weight of a pure white pigment.
If 10 parts by weight of a highly disperse carbon black are treated in the same way, 28.6 parts by weight of a deep black pigment are obtained.
