Le dessin annexé, donné à titre d'exem ple, montre: en fi-. 1, un phare réalisé selon l'inven tion, vu en coupe longitudinale; en fig. 2, le même, vu de face; en fig. 3, une variante du mode de mon tage des volets fixes; en fig. 4, le dispositif d'actionnement des volets mobiles; en fig. 5, l'organe de commande du dis positif d'actionnement des volets mobiles, vu de face, en coupe transversale suivant la ligne 5-5 de la fig. 1; en fig. G, ledit organe de commande vu en plan;
Tandis que lors de la fermeture des vo lets mobiles 13 placés en position d'occul- tation, -comme le montre la fig. 8, l'éclairage est constitué: 1o par des rayons de lumière diffuse et non-éblouissante ayant trouvés passage à tra vers les volets 13 en matière semi-transpa- rente ou anti-éblouissante appropriée;
20 par des pinceaux p-p' comme ci- dessus continuant à éclairer très fortement la route et formant un faisceau commençant à quelques mètres seulement devant le véhicule et complétant les rayons qui passent entre les volets fixes et les volets mobiles; 30 par des pinceaux q-q' réfléchis par la face réfléchissante 13b des volets mobiles 13 et venant renforcer l'éclairage susdit;
Anti-glare device adaptable to vehicle headlights. The present invention relates to an anti-dazzling device adaptable to headlights for vehicles, characterized by a supporting frame of fixed shutters and of voting shutters arranged in parallel and being fixed in front of the light source of the headlight, the fixed shutters having their underside. reflective and their upper face diffusing and having a curved cross section and an inclination such that they reflect by their underside the light beams which they intercept by transforming them into diverging beams downwards, while their upper face diffuses the rays that strike it, and the pivoting shutters,
made of translucent material, the purpose of which, in their open position, is to allow light to pass between the fixed shutters and, in their closed position, to filter said light so as to allow passage only to light rays non-glare.
The accompanying drawing, given by way of example, shows: in fi-. 1, a headlight produced according to the invention, seen in longitudinal section; in fig. 2, the same, seen from the front; in fig. 3, a variant of the mode of mounting the fixed shutters; in fig. 4, the device for actuating the movable shutters; in fig. 5, the control member of the actuating device of the movable shutters, seen from the front, in cross section along line 5-5 of FIG. 1; in fig. G, said control member seen in plan;
in fig. 7 and 8, diagrams indicate the course of the light rays.
In one embodiment of the object of the invention, the vehicle headlight comprises a protective body 1 (fig. 1 and 2) preferably made of metal, inside which is fixed in the ordinary manner, a reflective mirror 2.
A single filament lamp 3, of suitable shape and light output, is placed in the center of the reflector 2. A second lamp 4 can also be fixed in the headlight to provide the low intensity lighting generally required for the crossing. , well-lit cities.
On the body 1 and in front of the reflector 2 is articulated in the ordinary manner a bay 5 forming a door and provided with the glass 6 of the headlight.
In this ring fit two half-crowns 7 which are fixed in the ring 5 by means of screws.
These half-rings are preferably made of a material molded or melted so as to present a fairly high resistance.
Fixed flaps 8 are mounted between the two half-couplings, thanks to tenons or brackets 9 integral with said flaps or brought back on them and held on them. half-crowns by means of screws 10.
Said flaps 8 can be produced. in any material considered suitable: metal, molded plastic material, or even can come from molding with the glass, 6 of the headlight.
These flaps can be provided on their upper face Sa, with a diffusing coating, while their lower face 8 ,, is. always equipped with a reflective coating or deposit.
Said flaps have a large cross section and this is studied according to the shape of the beam pp '(fig. 8) which it is desired to obtain -and depending on the limiting angle a (which can be zero, positive or negative) what must the extreme rays p 'do with the horizontal so that they cannot reach the eyes of the drivers of vehicles coming to meet the headlight.
This section is curved and may even include, in practice,. multiple curves.
The inclination -of the flaps 8 is, in principle, determined once and for all, but the fixing screws 10 allow however to modify said inclination at will.
This tilt adjustment can even be facilitated by the following mounting method: Each shutter 8 (fig. 3) is provided at its ends with a bracket or tenon 9 provided with a pin 10 'engaging in the holes of the half-crowns 7, or else fixed as in the previous case by means of a screw 10. A curved slot 11 is made in the tenon 9, concentrically to the axis of the journal 10 '.
A screw 12 screwed into the corresponding half-crown 7 passes through said slot 1-1, and makes it possible to immobilize the shutter in the desired position.
Behind said fixed shutters 8, or between them, are arranged .. movable shutters 13. Each of these consists of a blade 13 (Fig. 4) of translucent material with a coloring such as light rays. which cross it lose all shine and all dazzling character.
The faces of the blade 13 are treated so that the upper face 13a is diffusing and the lower face 13b is reflective.
Each blade 13 is provided at its ends with support pieces 14 provided with an articulation journal 15 engaging in bosses pierced with holes made in the half-rings 7.
On the blade 13 is fixed, preferably outside the optical axis of the headlight, a plate 16 carrying a yoke 17.
In the latter engages a tenon 18a produced on a bar 18 intended to constitute a flap control rod.
The connecting rod 18 therefore has as many tenons 18a as there are movable flaps 13 to be pivoted about their axes 15.
The connecting rod 18 can itself be controlled in various ways.
It can, for example, be provided at its base with a core 19 of magnetic material immersed in an electromagnet 20 excited by an electric current closed at will by the driver of the vehicle by means of a switch placed within reach of its. hand.
As it is not always easy to find accommodation. the electromagnet 20 vertically, it can be placed horizontally in the headlight and made to act on the connecting rod 18 by means of a device of racks and pinions, like that shown in FIG. 1, 2, 5 and 6. In this device, the core 19 is integral with a rack 21 sliding in a frame 22 extending the coil of the electromagnet 20.
The rack 21 is engaged with a pinion 23 wedged on a shaft 24 which drives a second pinion 25 also wedged on it. Finally, this pinion meshes with a 1st rack 26 fixed to the connecting rod 18 by means of a pin 27.
The frame 22 is provided with a guide slide 28 ensuring constant engagement of the rack 26 with the pinion 25.
The core 19 is provided with a threaded tail 29 sliding in a sleeve 30 which is screwed onto the coil of the electromagnet 20.
In the sleeve 30 is housed a spring 31 tending to constantly push the core 19 out of the electromagnet 20.
The edge 30a of the sleeve 30 limits the stroke of the core inside the coil 20, while a nut 32, screwed on the shank 29 limits the stroke of said core out of the coil.
It is immediately seen that one can obtain an easy adjustment of the stroke of the core 19 and, consequently, of the displacement of the connecting rod. It follows that one. can, by these adjustment means, cause more or less large rotations of the movable flaps 13 around their axes 15.
The operation of the device is as follows: In normal road operation, the flaps 13 are, as shown in fig. 7, in their open position, horizontal or slightly inclined at an angle f3 to the horizontal depending on the setting made of the electromagnet 20.
It is then noted that the illumination obtained is constituted by 1o direct rays emitted by the mirror and finding passage between the fixed shutters 8 and the movable shutters 13; by rays reflected by the reflecting face 8b shutters, that is to say forming the p-p 'brushes.
While during the closing of the movable shutters 13 placed in the concealed position, -as shown in FIG. 8, the lighting consists of: 1o rays of diffused and non-dazzling light having found passage through the shutters 13 of suitable semi-transparent or anti-glare material;
20 by p-p 'brushes as above continuing to illuminate the road very strongly and forming a beam starting just a few meters in front of the vehicle and completing the rays which pass between the fixed shutters and the movable shutters; 30 by brushes q-q 'reflected by the reflecting face 13b of the movable shutters 13 and reinforcing the aforesaid lighting;
40 by brushes v-v 'returned by the diffusing face 8a of the fixed shutters 8, which gives upward lighting, but not dazzling.
It can therefore be clearly seen that, in both cases, the flaps 8 increase the power of the headlight if the zones o - p 'are judiciously established and, consequently, if the curvatures of said flaps have been suitably calculated.
The shutters 13 made of yellow glass for example, make it possible to obtain harmless illumination for the driver coming in front of the headlight, while the lower white beam can cause no discomfort.
In addition, the movable blades 13 and the fixed flaps 8 can form a certain angle between them so as to. create a larger gap on one of the sides of the headlight, which makes it possible to obtain a more intense lighting on said side and that depending on the. Vehicle circulation is on the right or on the left and that the crossings are done inversely on the left or on the right.
By suitable adjustment of the stroke of the core 19, the desired diffusion will be obtained by giving the diffusing face 13a of the flaps 13 the required inclination and by varying the angle 8.
On the other hand, in order to obtain the best possible lighting, it is essential to move the light source 3 from the focus of the, parabola of the reflector 2 and this by an amount which depends on the section given to the shutters. 8, their impact and, also, the impact of components 13.
For this positioning of the miner source 3, the lamp holder 33 (fig. 1) can be mounted by screwing in the support housing 34 fixed to the reflector 2, or else welded in said housing after adjustment in the 'assembly workshop.
When all the conditions listed above have been fulfilled, the tests carried out gave, under normal lighting (full headlight), a diffused light, exhibiting no light holes, and a lighting range equivalent to ordinary headlights. and this with a minimum of glare, tan say that with the reduced lighting required for the crossing of vehicles, the tests ensured a total lighting sufficient at more than 50 meters and a lighting on the ground carrying up to 200 meters , devoid of any shine and, therefore, causing no glare.
The complete device can equally well be mounted inside an already existing headlight or be adapted to this same headlight by simply replacing its glass holder by the support ring 5 furnished with half-rings 7, flaps and the electromagnet 20.
This control member can obviously be replaced by any other known mechanical, electrical or operating means using fluid under pressure or depression.
