A method of forming a thin-walled container bottom, and a thin-walled container, provided with at least one bottom formed by this method. The present invention comprises a process for forming a thin-walled container bottom, in particular a metal container such as for example a tube for pastes and creams, and a thin-walled container provided with at least one bottom. formed by this process.
This process can, for example, be used to close a container with thin walls for the formation of a bottom. In this case, the method according to the invention will be able to replace the known method consisting in pinching the end walls of the container in order to them, then winding them on themselves.
The method according to the present invention is characterized in that a thin-walled closure part is placed in the open end of the body of the receptacle, part of the walls of this part conforming to the internal shape of the container. wall of the body of the receptacle at this end, this part abutting against a part of the wall of the body of the receptacle projecting internally, then in that the corresponding parts of the walls of the body of the receptacle are first simultaneously deformed. container and the sealing piece,
and in that these deformed parts are then compressed to subject them to a second deformation, crushing them against each other so as to seal the seal between the closure part and the body of the container.
The container formed using this process is characterized in that it has one of its ends. provided with this bottom, a closure part with thin walls, part of the walls of this part as well as a corresponding part of the wall of the body of the receptacle being folded and squashed against one another so that the seal between the body of the container and this closure piece is sealed.
The appended drawing illustrates, schematically - and by way of example, - different phases of an embodiment of the method, object of the present invention. The various figures in this drawing are schematic sections through a container.
Fig. 1 represents the body: of the container; Fig. 2 shows the body of the container with the closure part; Fig. 3 shows the body of the receptacle and the closure part once the corresponding parts have been completed. walls of the body of the container and of the closure part have received their first deformation; Fig. 4 shows the container provided with its bottom.
In the example illustrated in the accompanying drawing, the container is provided only at one of its ends -d'un bottom formed using this embodiment of the method, but. It will be appreciated that this embodiment of the process can be applied to the formation of a bottom at both ends of the container if desired. In addition, the container is assumed to be full when it is closed by forming the bottom.
Here is how one can proceed, in the case of a tubular metal container with thin walls. Let 10 be the body of the container consisting of a thin-walled metal tube closed at the end not shown and filled with a material 11, for example a paste, the open end of this tube having a smooth cylindrical wall before the die. purpose of the process.
The wall of this tube is deformed, near the edge of its open end 12, by pushing the material of this wall towards. inside using a telescopic tool 14 (see fig. 1) so that on the outside it has a circular groove 13. After this first operation, the tube is released from the tool with a clean reading and one places therein, .in its open end 12, a shutter 15 also metallic ment and thin-walled having a bottom and .des cylindrical walls.
This part 15 abuts against the projection 16 formed inside the container by the metal, from the wall of the tube which was pushed back by the telescope tool 14 during the formation of the circular groove 13 (FIG. 2). . Once. the part 15 in place, the part of the wall of the body 10 of the container between the groove 13 and the free edge and the corresponding cylindrical wall of the closure part 15 is simultaneously deformed so that these corresponding parts of the walls of the body 10 and -de the part 15 have sil lons 17 giving them a corrugated surface.
These grooves can be obtained, for example, using a set of knurling wheels (see fi, -. 3).
The tube is then clamped in a tool 18 bearing in the groove 13 and which may, for example, be the same telescopic tool which was used for the formation of the groove 13 (see FIG. 4) and a pressure in the direction of the arrows 19, therefore directed towards the body 10, is exerted on the end of the tube so as to subject the deformed parts to a second deformation crushing the corresponding parts of the walls one on the other, the body being held against pressure by tool 18.
The portion -of the wall of the tube located between the groove 13 and the free edge (the tube and the corresponding cylindrical wall -of the closure part 15 are thus folded over and crushed against each other to form folds juxtaposed and pressed against each other and forming a tight seal between the tube and the sealing piece.
Numerous modifications can be made to the process which has just been described by way of example.
The bezel 14 can be replaced by a ring made of several pieces, an iris diaphragm, a wheel rotating in a groove, etc. Furthermore, the tool 14 can, during all the operations of the process, remain in engagement with the body 10 of the container.
The groove 13 can be previously formed on the containers, even before their filling. This groove, instead of involving the entire perimeter of the container, can be made on only part of it and then, instead of being a continuous groove, it can be one or more indentations determining one or more protrusions. inside the container.
In order to obtain that the wall of the body of the receptacle has a part that projects inwardly and on which the closure part must abut, it is also possible to provide that the blank of the receptacle body has a simple widening at the end. 'end at which the bottom will be formed in the manner described.
In the embodiment of the method described with reference to the drawing, provision has been made to deform the corresponding parts of the walls by first forming grooves 17. Instead of forming these grooves, it is possible to wind them on themselves. corresponding parts of the walls of the tube and of the sealing piece, and then subject to these. parts a second deformation folding them and crushing them against each other so as to make the joint watertight.
To complete the tightness of the joint, it is possible to coat either the part of the tube coming into contact with the closure part, or the part of this part coming into contact with the tube, or even these two parts, with a product. improving the seal, for example of a varnish, of a rubber dissolver, etc., this before placing the stopper in the open end of the tube. In. For the same purpose, one could also interpose a sheet of plastic material between the corresponding parts of the walls of the tube and of the closure piece when the latter is put in place.
In order to maintain the body of the receptacle during the compression producing the second deformation of the corresponding parts of the walls of the tube and of the closure piece, it is possible, in a variant of the method illustrated by way of example, to introduce into the tube a support which will bear on the projection 16 on the side opposite to that of the stopper of the shutter piece; Obviously, this variant of the embodiment of the method can be applied only to one end of the container, the other end having to remain open to allow said support to be removed, the container must also be empty.
