Description
Process for the production of piston rings with a slightly conical outer surface. In single-acting explosion engines, especially in automobile engines where high revs occur, the lubricating oil in the crankcase is thrown by the crankshaft against the cylinder wall, adheres to it and is sucked into the explosion chamber during the suction stroke by the negative pressure in the cylinder, even if the The piston rings make good contact with the cylinder wall.
To remedy this inconvenience, the outer surface of the piston rings is often designed to be slightly conical and the rings are inserted into the piston in such a way that the edge on the crank side lies against them and thus scrapes the oil off the cylinder wall.
So far, the rings have been stretched individually and turned conically on the outside. The subject of the invention is a Ver drive that allows such rings with a slightly conical outer surface to be produced cheaply. The method according to the invention consists in that the ring is clamped between two disks with a conical face and turned off cylindrically on the outer surface. When the ring is relaxed, the outer surface becomes conical.
This method is particularly advantageous when several rings are clamped between the two disks at the same time in order to turn off their outer surfaces. Conical disks can be inserted between the rings on one and the same mandrel in order to be able to finish more piston rings in one operation.
It does not matter whether the piston rings are machined on the outside using a circular cylinder or a template.
In Figs. 1 and 2 devices for performing the method are shown, for example; Fig. 3 shows the position of a piston ring 3 during the machining of the jacket surface; Fig. 4 shows the piston ring after loading the surface area in a relaxed state.
In Fig. 1, two outer discs 2 with a conical end face are provided on a rotating mandrel 1 on both sides of the piston rings 3.
In Fig. 2, several plate-shaped washers 2 are arranged on the mandrel 1 between the piston rings 3.
In order to facilitate the correct installation of the rings in the piston, the piston rings are conveniently drawn on an end face.
