Trailers with brakes, in particular for bicycles. The subject of the present invention is a trailer with brakes, in particular for bicycles, which is characterized in that the drawbar has a trailer element which is arranged to be slidable in the direction of travel and which is articulated on a rotatably mounted lever which, when the trailer element is moved backwards, the brakes operated via a Bowden cable.
An embodiment of the. Trailer according to the invention is shown in the accompanying drawing.
Fig. 1 shows a side view of the trailer and Fig. 2 is a partial plan view of the drawbar with the attachment member.
The trailer shown has a drawbar 1 which is bent horizon tal at the free end. In the bent part 2, a ver sliding rod 3 in the direction of travel of the trailer is mounted. The front end of this rod is designed as a lanyard, while the rear end is articulated on an arm of a lever 5 rotatably mounted on a bracket 4. The bracket is carried by two struts 6 welded at one end to the drawbar and at the other end to the frame of the trailer. A rod 7 is articulated on the other arm of the lever, the lower end of which is connected to two Bowden cables 8.
Each cable leads to a brake 9, one of which is provided for each wheel. The outer sheaths of the cables are attached to a bracket 10 screwed onto the drawbar. On the tow bar 3 sits a coil spring 11, one end of which is anchored to the bent part 2 of the drawbar and the other end by means of an adjusting ring 12 on the rod.
The mode of operation of the device described is as follows: If the moving bicycle is braked, the trailer initially continues to roll at an undiminished speed as a result of the rod 3 displaceably arranged in the end of the drawbar, with a relative movement occurring between the drawbar and the said bar, according to which the rod 3 goes back and rotates the lever 5 clockwise.
As a result, a pull is exerted on the rod 7 and the Bowden cables 8, which actuates the brakes 9.
When starting, according to the inertia .des trailer, the lever 5 is rotated counterclockwise until the lower end of the rod 7 is against the angle 10, whereupon the trailer is taken.
The rod 7 could also be omitted and each Bowden cable attached directly to the lower arm .des lever 5.
The spring 11 has the task of cushioning the rod 3 in both the pushing and pulling directions. To adjust the brakes, a thread with regulating nut and counter nut is provided at the rear end of .stange 3. The brakes themselves can be designed as hub brakes, rim brakes or band brakes.
It goes without saying that, without going beyond the scope of the invention, the trailer can also be built in larger dimensions for motor vehicles.
The trailer described relieves the bicycle brakes when driving downhill on steep inclines and thus reduces the risk of their failure due to overload.
