Treuil.
Winch. The object of the present invention is a winch comprising a drum, on which is wound a flexible member intended to pull an object. This winch is characterized in that the drum is mounted on a rotating shaft, so as to be able to rotate with this shaft while sliding on it, this shaft being carried by a fixed support carrying the journals of a pulley over which the flexible member, the whole arranged so that the traction of this member causes the displacement of the drum on its shaft, so that the point of tangency of said member and of the drum remains constantly in the vicinity of the median plane of said pulley.
The accompanying drawing represents, by way of example, an embodiment of the object of the present invention.
Fig. 1 is a general perspective view; fig. 2 is a vertical section through II-II of FIG. 1.
The winch shown comprises a frame 1 provided with shovels 2 enabling it to be driven into the earth and a seat 3 for the person using the winch. On this chassis are mounted two bearings 4 in which the rotary shaft 5 can turn, the left end of which enters a gearbox 6, a shaft of which can be connected to the shaft of a motor, for example to the cultivator motor shaft 8. On the rotating shaft is arranged the drum 9 which rotates constantly with this shaft, but can slide on it, and on which is wound the flexible member 10 intended, for example, to pull a agricultural tool in a field. This flexible member passes over the pulley 11 rotatably mounted on the frame in the middle of its long front side.
The shaft has a polygonal cross section (square in the particular case) and the surface facing the drum a shape. correspondent; on each of its faces, this shaft has a longitudinal groove 12 formed by a flat bottom 13 and two equally plane walls 14 perpendicular to the bottom. In each groove is engaged a rolling roller 15 carried by the drum; the flat faces of this roller are parallel to the bottom 13 of the groove and its cylindrical surface can roll along one or the other of the tracks formed by the walls 14.
When the winch is in action, the traction exerted by the flexible member on the drum has the effect of maintaining the tan gence point of this cable and of the drum constantly in the vicinity of the median plane of the pulley; it follows that while turning, the drum slides along the shaft, sometimes in one direction, sometimes in the other; this movement is done easily whatever the angular position of the shaft, thanks to the grooves 14 and the rollers 15; in the position shown in fig. 2, for example, it is the top roller and the right one which will roll on the rear wall, respectively on the front wall of the corresponding groove.
Of course, the grooves 14 could be made in the drum 9, the rotary shaft 5 then carrying the rollers 15 engaged in these grooves.
