Le dessin représente, à titre d'exemple, une forme d'exécution particulière du moteur selon l'invention, ainsi que deux variantes. Sur ce dessin: La fig. 1 montre ce moteur, qui est un mo teur monocylindrique à explosion et à refroi- dissement par l'air, en perspective, avec por tions arrachées et le capot ouvert;
Les fig. 2 à 4 montrent, à plus petite échelle et certains éléments étant schémati sés, les fig. 2 et 3 suivant deux vues latérales à 90 , avec portions arrachées et la fig. 4 en plan, le même moteur, ces figures illustrant plus spécialement les dispositions relatives à la circulation de l'air de refroidissement;
La fi-. 5 montre, en vue latérale parallèle à l'arbre moteur, avec portions arrachées, 1e même moteur et plus spécialement les moyens de fermeture de la porte du capot; Les fig. 6 à 8 montrent séparément, en élé vation dans trois positions différentes de fonctionnement, certains éléments, comportés par lesdits moyens;
Internal combustion engine. The invention relates to an internal combustion engine having at least one engine cylinder arranged in a cover. Following the invention, this engine is characterized by the fact that the axis of this cylinder is inclined with respect to two opposite walls of said ca pot, so that the cylinder head of said cylinder is closer to one of these walls than the other.
The internal combustion engine according to the invention could be an operating engine, a diesel engine, or a hot bulb engine. This engine could also have a row of cylinders all arranged inside the cover and the axes of which are located in a plane passing through the axis of the engine shaft.
The drawing represents, by way of example, a particular embodiment of the engine according to the invention, as well as two variants. In this drawing: Fig. 1 shows this engine, which is a single-cylinder, internal combustion and air-cooled engine, in perspective, with portions broken away and the bonnet open;
Figs. 2 to 4 show, on a smaller scale and certain elements being schematized, FIGS. 2 and 3 according to two side views at 90, with portions broken away and FIG. 4 in plan, the same engine, these figures illustrating more specifically the arrangements relating to the circulation of the cooling air;
The fi-. 5 shows, in side view parallel to the motor shaft, with portions broken away, the same motor and more especially the means for closing the cover door; Figs. 6 to 8 show separately, in elevation in three different operating positions, certain elements, comprised by said means;
Fig. 9 my re, in a side view normal to the motor shaft, a variant of this motor and more especially the starting devices of this variant; Fig. 10 finally shows a view similar to that of FIG. 9 of another va; riaate, The engine shown is arranged vertically and its cover is of parallelepipedal shape.
The cylinder axis is inclined at an angle to the vertical, so that the cylinder head is closer to one of the vertical side walls of the cowl than to the opposite wall.
This arrangement allows the space available between the cylinder and the cover to be used under good conditions.
The motor shown has a frame B (fig. 1 and 2 to 4) having the shape of a rectangular parallelepiped, two side walls 1 and 2 of which are parallel to the axis 0-0 of the motor shaft, and are spaced from each other by a width a little greater than the overall diameter of the crankshaft, said frame forming a block with the crankshaft housing, the upper pa king 3, on which is fixed the base of the cylinder 4, is used to operate the fixing of various components such as the carburetor 5 and the magneto 6.
On this frame B is fixed the cover C consisting of a sheet metal casing of parallelepiped shape, and the dirty side and transverse walls of which are arranged in the extension of those of the frame B, this cover being provided with a door of access and, in addition, means for ensuring the circulation of the cooling air.
As a result of this arrangement of the cylinder in the cover, there remains only a small space between the cylinder head of this cylinder 4 and one 7, of the side walls of the cover 'parallel to the axis 0-0 of the crankshaft, while between the cylinder head of this cylinder and the opposite wall 8 is reserved a free space of greater width. Between the cylinder and the wall 8 is located the magneto 6.
The axis of the cylinder is disposed parallel to the walls 9 and 10 of the cover, transverse to the axis 0-0 of the crankshaft, the cylinder being located closer to the wall 9 than to the wall 10. In the free space between the cylinder and the wall 10 are arranged the carburetor 5, and, above the latter, the fuel tank 11. This latter could also be housed, above the magneto between the cylinder head and the wall 8.
The cooling air is guided by members arranged in the cover, so that it first strikes the cylinder head of the cylinder dre in a direction transverse to the axis of this cylinder and then hits the base of the cylinder in a direction also transverse to its axis and in the opposite direction: this cooling air then arrives in a chamber of the frame B from which it is evacuated, by means of a fan constituted by blades 12 presented by a flywheel 13 mounted at the end of the motor shaft on the side of the transverse wall 9 of the cover.
The cooling air enters the hood through a mesh opening 14, made in the side wall 7 facing the cylinder head, which the fresh air strikes directly transversely to the axis of the cylinder, the surfaces to be cooled. being provided with fins 15. The spark plug 16, mounted on the cylinder head is, to improve its cooling, disposed on the side of this cylinder head facing said opening.
To channel the air towards the second part of its circuit, there is provided a separating sheet 17 through which the cylinder passes, so that the cylinder head is on one side of this sheet and the base of the cylinder on the other. , this sheet coming to an end, on the side of the wall 7, at the lower edge of the opening 14, which is rectangular. Sheet 17, on the magneto side, stops a little beyond a plane tangent to the cylinder.
Two vertical guide plates 18, 19, which may be in one piece with the plate 17, are arranged on either side of the cylinder above the plate 1.7 and end at the two vertical sides of the opening 14 .
These sheets 18 and 19 are joined at their upper parts by an upper deflecting sheet 20, which, on the side of the wall 8 opposite to the wall 7 comprising the inlet opening, curves downwards, that is, that is to say towards the magneto.
The cooling air, escaping from this guide passage according to the arrows f ', is then brought to follow the path of least resistance formed by the gaps left free between the cylinder, the side plates 18, 19, and the walls 9 and 10 of the cover, so that it returns in the opposite direction to lick the surfaces of the base of the cylinder transversely to. the axis of the latter, according to the arrows f 2 (fig. 2 and 3).
The cooling air finally reaches the suction chamber 23 cooperating with the fan flywheel, from where it is evacuated. The arrangement of the flywheel on the side of the wall 9 makes it possible to arrange in the frame B at the end opposite the flywheel, that is to say at the height of the carburetor under the wall 3, an other chamber independent of the cooling circuits and in which it is possible in particular to accommodate a clutch, or a gear change, said chamber 21 (fig. 2 and 3) being closed by a removable cover designated by 22 (fig. 1).
The suction chamber 23 has the form of an annular chamber coaxial with the motor shaft and having towards the flywheel, in the corresponding wall of the frame, an also annular opening 24 (fig. 3) through which the air. is sucked in by the fins 12 of the fan.
This chamber is delimited on the side of the crankcase by a transverse wall 27 of the latter (fig. 1 and 3), and communicates with the inside of the cover by the spaces left free between the side walls 1 and 2, of the frame and said housing. On the side of the wall 1, the air passes into a groove 26 disposed between this wall and the wall 27 of said casing which is integral with the partition 3 on which the base of the cylinder and the magneto are mounted; said groove widening upwards. An air intake duct 28 to the carburetor is arranged in the bottom of the groove 26.
The supply air passing through this duct is drawn through a dust collector consisting of a kind of fan in which the air is sucked from the periphery towards the center, this fan being constituted by a second series of fins 29 carried. by the steering wheel 13.
The air at the outlet of the dust extractor fan passes into a fixed manifold 30 arranged around the motor shaft and secured to a connecting collar 31 of the frame (fig. 1), the air coming from the second fan to the manifold 30. through channels 33 formed in the steering wheel. In order to prevent the cooling air having access to the fins 12 of the first fan (FIG. 1) from reaching the manifold 30, use is made of a sealing gasket 32, of felt for example.
The whole of the flywheel and of the two fans can advantageously be constituted by a ring coming from the foundry with the two series of fins arranged on either side of this ring. Two sheet metal elements 35 and 36 are fixed on the outside against the fins (fig. 1).
The transverse wall 10 of the cover located on the side of the carburetor is provided with an opening closed by a door, so that one can easily access said carburetor and the magneto, the other wall 9 being traversed by the duct d 'gas exhaust fitted with an expansion pot 37.
This door is hinged to a cover 38 (Figs. 1 and 5) closing the cover at its upper part and on which it is mounted by means of hinges.
means thus has the possibility of accessing from above and from the side, the engine components and also the fuel tank, if the filler opening 39 is inside the bonnet (fig. 1), although it is possible to it is also available on the outside of this cover, as is shown in the variant of fig. 9.
The door cooperates with safety means suitable for making it impossible to operate the engine when the hood is not fully closed, to allow said engine to be turned only when the cooling circuit is established. correctly ,, and also to prevent the fuel tank from being filled during operation (when the orifice 39 is inside the bonnet), the door is closed, on the one hand, by means of 'a hole 40 formed in this door and coming to engage, when the latter approaches its closed position, with a horizontal lug 41 to block the door upwards, and, on the other hand, by a lock rotary 42,
Manoeuvrable from the outside by a lever 43, and capable of coming to engage behind a fixed element 44 of the part of the wall 10 forming the frame of the door. An element 45 integral with the lock 42 cooperates with the push-button 46 of a switch, interlocked in the ignition circuit of the engine, in such a way that, for a certain extreme position of the lock (FIG. 6), one obtains both the closing of the door and the coming into contact of the element 45 and the pusher 46, the ignition circuit then being closed,
and that for an intermediate position (fig. 7), locking is still obtained, the circuit being however open, which makes it possible to stop the -motor whenever desired, without opening the door, and finally that for a third position of the lock, the door is released, the circuit still being open.
The lock 42 has for the purpose indicated above the shape of a sector.
The lug 41 is formed by the shaft of the carburetor air flap, this flap being maneuverable by a control button 47 passing through the door 10 by a sector-shaped slot 48 (FIG. 1), and integral with a flap 49 which is applied against said slot and prevents air from passing through it.
The engine shown is completed by starting members, which comprise a lever 50 actuating members arranged in such a way that it suffices to move it by a relatively small angle to start the engine.
This lever 50 is mounted on the camshaft 51 with an axis parallel to that of the crankshaft, but it could also be mounted idle on the motor shaft itself. The movement is transmitted by means of a freewheel device to prevent the lever 50 from being rotated by the engine once started.
This lever could also be mounted on an axis 52 parallel to the motor shaft and linked to the motor shaft or to the camshaft by multiplier members amplifying the rotational movement imparted to the shaft by means of this lever, these members comprising, for example, a pinion 53 in engagement with a sector 54 which may be integral with the lever 50 or connected to the latter by a rod 51 or by any other kinematic connection (FIGS. 9 and 10).
The engine described will also include, on the one hand, to allow the operation of this engine to be adjusted, a centrifugal governor mounted on the camshaft, which regulator can also be operated by hand by a net 5'7. mounted on the wall 2 of the frame B and, on the other hand, means for ensuring the wise lubrication and checking the full oil, the lubrication being effected by splashing in the crankcase, which is provided with an orifice of filling 55 and a drain opening 56.
The motor shown is very compact, the internal capacity of the ca pot and the frame B being used to the maximum; it is cooled in a very rational way, the hottest parts (cylinder head and spark plug), receiving the action of the fresh air, it allows easy access to its various components and it lends itself to many applications, in particular as a result of the fact that the frame B has an opening closed by the removable cover 22, an opening on which it is possible to fix all transmission or use devices, for example a reduction gear, a clutch, a single or multiple pulley, a pump, etc.,
while at the other end of the motor shaft, one could also mount, possibly, against the flywheel-fan, a pulley.
