Description

Additional patent to the main patent No. 177581. Process for the preparation of an azo dye. The present process relates to the preparation of a blue-violet acetate silk dye and is characterized in that diazotized 6-bromo-2,4-dinitroaniline is coupled with ethyl-ss-y-dioxypropylmetoluidine.

<I> Example: </I> 26.2 parts of 6-bromo-2,4-dinitroaniline are dissolved in .135 parts of concentrated sulfuric acid of <B> 60 '</B> and the solution is slowly added 6.9 parts of sharply dried Ni trite between 60 to <B> 70 '. </B> After some time, the mixture is cooled to 20, the mass is poured onto crushed ice and diluted with ice water up to 1500 parts.

This diazo solution is allowed to run into a solution of 20.9 parts of ethyl-ss, y-dioxypropyl-meta-toluidine (.S. P. 180 at 5 mm) in 500 parts of water and 13 parts of 30% hydrochloric acid. The filtered and dried dye gives silk blue-violet tones on acetate. It is a shiny bronze powder and dissolves in benzene with red, in alcohol and acetone with violet and in concentrated sulfuric acid with orange.
