Lifeboat. The present invention relates to a rescue boat, in particular such as those which are taken aboard high tonnage (transatlantic) ships and which cannot be launched during shipwrecks, fires, etc. .
The boat according to the invention is characterized in that it comprises at least one enclosed space, in its hull, intended to accommodate the passengers, means being provided to allow an exchange between the air in this space and that. of the atmosphere, without the water around the boat being able to enter this space, and at least one pneumatic tire surrounding its hull at the level of the waterline, intended to ensure its stability and to protect its hull against shocks.
It is therefore understood that the passengers of such a boat are sheltered from the waves, which is of all importance, because shipwrecks frequently take place during storms; furthermore, the lifeboats being of relatively small dimensions, the boat according to the invention, thanks to its enclosed space and its pneumatic tire, will be unsinkable, even if it is small.
This boat can also have a keel with dead weight, increasing its stability, to make it self-righting; propulsion means, operable from the enclosed space, may be provided. Food supplies, solid and liquid, as well as comfortable seats can be placed inside the hull, etc.
The appended drawing represents, by way of example, an embodiment of the object of the invention.
Fig. 1 is an elevational view, partially in section, of a boat according to the invention; Fig. 2 is a top plan, and FIG. 3 a shot from below.
With reference to the drawing, the boat shown has a hull 10 in two parts, namely the upper part 11 and the lower part 12, These two parts are fixed to each other by bolts 13 and determine a space enclosed intended to accommodate the sagers, this space occupying most of the interior of the hull. The latter is surrounded, at the level of the waterline by a damping tire 14. This tire is formed by an air chamber 15 surrounded by a casing 16 made of an elastic material, for example foam rubber. whose surface has been hardened.
This bandage 14 is applied to a reinforcement 17 of the lower part of the shell and is held between two flanges 18, 19 integral with one of part 11 and the other of part 12.
A drinking water tank 20 is arranged at the lower part of the hull; this tank has a filler plug 21 and a drain plug 22. It is fitted with a pump 23 allowing pressurized air to be sent to it and a tap 24 allowing water to be withdrawn, which passes beforehand. ment through a filter 25. 'Two keels 26 and 27 are arranged below part 12 and extend parallel to the major axis of the hull, the latter being elliptical in shape. These keels are made of metal, they serve not only to increase the stability of the boat, but thanks to their shape they act as daggerboards and cooperate in the direction of the boat.
A common passenger seat is placed against the side wall of the confined space. This seat comprises a padded backrest 28 and an actual seat 29 furnished with spells. In the space located below the seat 29 are housed accumulators 30 and cabinets 31. The accumulators serve to supply electric current to lamps 32 for lighting the enclosed space, these lamps being able for example to operate. at a voltage of 6 volts and the accumulators being of sufficient capacity to supply them for 60 hours. Cabinets 31 can contain food, as well as other essentials for passengers.
Propulsion members, consisting of paddles 33 mounted on pins 34 are arranged on either side of the keels 26 and 27. The pins 34 pass through the hull to enter the enclosed space where the passengers are located. and carry at their ends located in this space a lever (not shown) for actuating them. The pallets 33 are in two parts 35 and 36 hinged to each other such that when the axis 34 is rotated in one direction, these parts form an angle with each other, while when the axis is rotated in the opposite direction, these parts are blocked in the extension of one another.
This arrangement doubles the attack surface of the pallet and makes it possible by an oscillating movement of the axes 34 to advance the boat in the direction of arrow 37 (FIG. 3).
The means allowing an exchange between the air of the closed space and that of the atmosphere; consist of several tubes 38 carried by a shaft 39 arranged vertically in the center of the boat. These tubes are bent at right angles at each of their ends, their lower end opens into the enclosed space and their upper end into the atmosphere, under a bell 40 serving as a breakwater. The water from the waves which would break over the boat is partly stopped by the breakwater and therefore can only reach with difficulty the upper orifice of the tubes 38. The bell 40 carries a mast 41 which can be attached a flag (intended to attract attention).
A ramp 42, carried by legs 43, is placed in front of the seats and allows passengers to stand when the boat is launching. A handrail 44 is placed on the outside of the hull above the tire 14 and allows passengers to move outside the boat, for disembarking for example.
Two hermetically closing doors 45 are provided on the upper part 11 of the shell. One of these doors allows entry and exit of the enclosed space, while the other gives access to a toilet. Four portholes 46 fitted with protective grids 47 and closing tightly, are also seen on the upper part 11. Four suspension rings 48 make it possible to raise or lower the boat, in particular when it is launched.
Other accessories can also be provided, such as for example a box 49 for a hazard light, etc.
Various modifications can obviously be made to the boat which has just been described, both to. its shape, as well as the number and arrangement of its accessories. These can be supplemented by a transmitter and receiver T. S. F. station, an acoustic warning device (siren, megaphone), ete. Provision can also be made for the seat of each person to be indicated; an appropriate dimension for this boat will for example be that allowing it to accommodate 20 people - in this case, its total length would be 8.5 m and its width 4 m.
As will be understood, this boat offers great safety to its passengers who happen to be sheltered from bad weather, the boat being moreover unsinkable, uncontrollable and well protected against shocks by its damping bandage.
