Description

Process for the preparation of a water-insoluble azo dye. It has been found that valuable water-insoluble azo dyes are obtained if compounds of the general formula:

EMI0001.0005
where Rr, R2 and Ra are aryl radicals of the benzene or naphthalene series which can contain further substituents but not groups which make water soluble, combined with the components customary for the synthesis of water-insoluble azo dyes.

The dyes thus obtained are distinguished from the analogous dyes, which are composed of diazo components with only one aroyl croup, by better authenticity properties.

The bases used as the diazo component can be prepared, for example, by condensation of nitro-aryl-dicarboxylic acid halides with aromatic hydrocarbons, which can contain further substituents, but not groups that make water-solubilizing, according to Friedel-Crafts and subsequent reduction.

The present patent now relates to a process for the preparation of a water-insoluble azo dye, characterized in that the diazo compound of 1-amino-2. 5-dibenzoylbenzene combined with 1- (2'-3 'oxynaphthoylamino) -2-methoaybenzene.

The water-insoluble azo dye obtained in this way is a scarlet powder, provides valuable, scarlet varnishes and, if produced on the fiber, real yellow-tinged scarlet tones.

Example: A solution of the diazo compound prepared in the customary manner from 30 parts of 1-amino-2,5-dibenzoylbenzene is left in an aqueous suspension of 29.3 parts of 1- (2'- 3'-ogynaphthoylamino) -2-methoxyber) zol, prepared by dissolving the arylide in alcoholic sodium hydroxide solution, diluting it with water and neutralizing it with acetic acid. After the coupling has ended, the dye is kept as a scarlet powder by suction, washing neutral and drying.
