Starting device on internal combustion engines of motor vehicles, aircraft and the like. The invention relates to a Starteinrich device on internal combustion engines of motor vehicles, aircraft and the like, in which an auxiliary carburetor is provided in addition to the electric starter motor.
When starting combustion engines with auxiliary carburetors, such as those used in motor vehicles and airplanes, up to now, in addition to the starter, the auxiliary carburetor had to be operated by hand. The arbitrary operation of the auxiliary carburetor by the driver gives rise to frequent faulty starting, thereby damaging the engine and wasting fuel.
These disadvantages are to be avoided by the starting device according to the invention in that it is provided with a Regelvor direction which inevitably activates the auxiliary carburetor when the starter motor is switched on. In the accompanying drawing, an embodiment of the subject invention is shown, in use on an automobile.
Fig. 1 shows schematically the device with its parts in the inoperative position; Fig. 2 shows the device with the parts in position when starting a cold engine.
From the float housing 1, the fuel passes through a throttle nozzle s through the spray pipe 2 into the air funnel @ 6 in the carburetor pipe 3. 5 is the throttle valve and 4 is the intake pipe of the engine. To leave an auxiliary carburetor is provided, in which the fuel from the float housing 1 via a throttle nozzle z and a spray tube 14 in the gasified state, for example via lines a, b enters the intake pipe 4 of the engine .
For normal operation, the float housing 1 is also connected to the funnel 6 via lines d, f and e with the interposition of nozzles v and x in order to replace the atmospheric pressure above the fuel level with underpressure .
The starting device also includes a cylinder 11 in which on a piston rod 8 two pistons 9 and 10 are brought to. Line b opens into the cylinder wall and line a is connected to this opening opposite. At a lower point on the cylinder wall there is an opening C to the atmosphere, which is branched off across from a line c with a nozzle y interposed. The line c continues .sich into the line f leading to the air funnel 6, the line e branching off to the atmosphere and the line d to the air space of the float housing 1. An electric magnet 13 is placed around the piston line -8. The piston rod 8 is provided with an armature 12.
The pistons 9 and 10 are under the action of a compression spring 7.
17 is the engine switch, 16 is the battery, 15 is the starter engine, 18 is a double switch and 19 is a thermostat. M is the connection to the mass of the motor respectively. Grounding. The line 21 leads to the ignition device.
The handling and operation is as follows: In the previously usual starting, the motor switch 17 and the single-pole switch 18 were closed, causing the engine 15 to start the internal combustion engine in Dre hung. Then, as required, the starter flap, the auxiliary carburetor or an auxiliary air device had to be operated by hand.
In the starting device shown, the motor switch 17 and the double-pole switch 18 are closed for starting. As a result, the starter motor 15 starts up and sets the internal combustion engine rotating.
At the same time, however, the sheet magnet 1,3 is excited, whereby the armature 12 is attracted and the piston rod 8 with the pistons 9 and 10 is moved downwards against the action of the spring 7, so that the position of the parts shown in FIG. 2 results .
While in the position according to FIG. 1 the connection between the pipelines a and b is blocked and the line c is closed from the atmosphere, the position according to FIG. 2 is due to the piston being pushed down 9 and 10, the lines a and b are connected to each other and the line c is connected to the .Atmosphäre. This latter connection has no influence on starting.
Closing the starter switch 18 not only causes the starter motor 15 to rotate the internal combustion engine, but also ensures that the gas mixture is no longer passed through the idle nozzle of the main carburetor via the intake pipe 4 into the combustion chamber of the engine , but at the same time is sucked in via the auxiliary carburetor through the lines b, a into the intake pipe 4, where the engine can easily start.
If the starter motor 15 is switched off again by the switch 18, the electromagnet 13 is de-energized when the engine is warm and the pistons 9 and 10 again assume the position shown in FIG.
If the engine is still cold after starting, it is necessary that: The auxiliary carburetor continues to work until the engine has reached a certain operating temperature. For this purpose, the thermostat 1'9 is seen, which is influenced by the engine temperature. If the temperature is too low, the switch 20 actuated by the thermostat 19 is closed, which means that when the engine is switched, that is, when the engine switch 17 is closed, the electromagnet 13 remains energized via the battery 16 despite the opening of the starter switch 18, as shown in FIG is shown.
The armature 12 remains attracted conditions and the pistons 9 and 10 remain in the lower position of FIG. 2. The connec tion of the line c is made with the atmosphere. This connection now has the following effect: The negative pressure prevailing above the fuel level in the float housing 1 and in the line d is reduced by the connection made with the fresh air via the line c. This negative pressure above the fuel level is caused by the connection of the pipe d with the pipe f leading to the narrowest point of the air funnel 6 and by the additional air entering through the pipe e via the nozzle v.
By reducing the negative pressure, an increased pressure difference is created between the float housing 1 and the funnel 6, which results in a richer fuel mixture so that the cold engine can be driven with the cold engine started, while the cold engine is started without this device would just pull badly. If the engine has then reached a certain operating temperature, the thermostat 19 interrupts the circuit via the switch 20, whereby the electric magnet 13 is switched off and the pistons 9 and 10 assume the position shown in FIG.
The regulating device does not need to have a cylinder with a piston, as shown in the example, but it can also be designed in another way.
Furthermore, other devices can be connected to the control device, which are to be operated when starting the engine, for example a device which prevents overloading of the motor at too low a temperature, or a device which when using different ver Fuels a switchover of one fuel to the other or a blocking of the same. Instead of the purely electrical Actuate supply means of the control device shown in the example, entirely mechanical means or means that act partly mechanically and partly electrically can be used.
